Chicago Bulls Rumors: Ignore the noise, Jim Boylen is getting firedon April 16, 2020 at 1:00 pm

Everyone is speculating what is going to happen to Jim Boylen. Ignore the noise. Boylen is not coaching the Chicago Bulls next year.

The Chicago Bulls finally parted ways with Gar Foreman and Jon Paxson stepped aside as the team brought in a new President of Basketball Operations in Arturas Karnisovas. This move alone should bring new hope and life to a Chicago Bulls basketball team that was seeing record lows in attendance last season.

Now fans (including myself) want to see Jim Boylen get the ax next. The thing is, Karnisovas has made it clear that his first priority as President of Basketball Operations is to bring in a new General Manager. Karnisovas is off to a great start, but we should temper our expectations slightly. This team has been in such disarray that literally my eight-year-old being hired to run the basketball side of operations could not be any worse than the last 15-plus years.

To kick things off, Karnisovas has already hired two assistant general managers. J.J. Polk will be in charge of salary-cap management and Pat Connelly will focus on personnel. There comes familiarity with both of these hires. All three of these men have ties to Denver’s President of Basketball Operations Tim Connelly.

Now for the noise. It seems some people tend to believe that Jim Boylen could stick around in Chicago.

First of all, we should note that nowhere in this article does it definitively state Boylen will be sticking around. The original source mentioned in the article is Joe Cowley. Cowley had this to say about the Boylen situation:

Alright, I am not sure what Cowley is hearing, but I will tell you this, it is all noise. Boylen seems like a nice enough guy, but he just cannot cut it as a head coach in the NBA. Whether it is his timeouts at the weirdest of times or his inability to play the right lineups, he just should not be in charge of any NBA team. I know that is crass, but it is the truth and this franchise cannot wait around and be nice. The team needs to win and change the culture now.

This brings me to why Boylen is not going to be here whenever the 2020-2021 season starts. Out of the gate, rumors were floating around that Gar Foreman might stick around just as John Paxson was sticking around.

Well, it did not take long for those rumors to be flushed out. Foreman was fired and Karnisovas’ reason was that he was brought in to effect change. Let that sink in a minute. Karnisovas was brought in to effect change. Is keeping Boylen going to effect change? The answer is clearly no. I do not care who Boylen’s “big hitters” are, he is not going to be the head coach of this team much longer.

Next: Jim Boylen tries to keep his job

Now, let us dive into why Boylen has not been fired yet. The answer is simple. Karnisovas is focusing on fixing the front office first. The goal right now is to land the best possible general manager he can for this team. Someone who will share in his ideals and help bring some top free agents back to Chicago. Maybe Anthony Davis will finally come play in Chicago now? Whoever it is, the chances of landing a max-contract free agent is greater now than it was just a month ago.

With the uncertainty of several contract extensions on the Chicago Cubs roster, Theo Epstein may turn to the draft for offensive help in the future.

At the year-end press conference, Theo Epstein mentioned that the front office would chat with several players on the Chicago Cubs roster regarding potential extensions. Given Kris Bryant‘s grievance hearing and how time-consuming that was, it made sense that Javier Baez would be the most likely to sign a long-term deal.

However, nothing ever materialized from that. In fact, not one player was signed to a contract extension. Scott Boras is widely known as garnering high-profile deals for his clients, so regardless of what he says, the Bryant is going to be difficult to sign long-term.

Anthony Rizzo was a mainstay on the Cubs’ roster through the dark years of the rebuild. But he, too, is finishing out two club options of his seven-year deal. The Cubs’ brass reportedly was not going to discuss an extension with Rizzo last offseason, so that leaves some uncertainty at first base beyond 2021 as well.

The same goes for Willson Contreras. And Kyle Schwarber. You get the picture.

And while pitching is likely to be the priority in June’s draft, it will be hard for Theo Epstein to turn away from some of the top offensive talent in this class. Let’s look at several players they can target within the first couple of rounds.

Chicago White Sox: An idea for the Field of Dreams Gameon April 16, 2020 at 3:00 pm

As of now, the Chicago White Sox are still scheduled to play the New York Yankees at the Field of Dreams movie site. Here’s an idea on how that should go down.

If you build it, they will come. If they’re permitted to, of course.

Though there was much hype surrounding the 2020 Chicago White Sox season, there’s now a legitimate possibility that there won’t be a single Sox game played in the first year of the decade.

The South Siders entered the year and decade as playoff contenders but much like the ’94 Sox in the strike-shortened season, they may not even get a chance at postseason baseball.

We won’t go into detail as basically everything on your timeline, your television and your mind at all times is nothing but the effects of COVID-19 on sports and literally every single aspect of life.

But in addition to the meaningful baseball arriving in Bridgeport for the first time in nearly a decade, Sox fans were also excited at the opportunity to watch their team play in heaven. No, not the other side of the Pearly Gates, and not the intersection of 35th and Shields.

Iowa.

For the first time ever, Major League Baseball is coming to Dyersville, Iowa. The tiny Northeast Iowa town of just over 4,000 people has etched itself deep into the hearts of baseball fans around the world for its part in the Academy Award nominated baseball motion picture Field of Dreams.

The film includes fictional portrayals of members of the 1919 Black Sox, most notably Shoeless Joe Jackson, and includes one of the most iconic scenes in movie history.

You know, the one where James Earl Jones talks about how baseball is part of our nation’s history and its future?

This field, this game, is a part of our past, Ray. It reminds us of all that once was good, and that could be again.

That line hits harder than Luis Robert right now.

We don’t know if there will be baseball played this year. And if there is, there may not be any folks allowed in the stands. On Wednesday, Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti stated that people should prepare for the reality of social gatherings being prohibited until 2021.

So what does that mean, as Major League Baseball constructs an 8,000 capacity stadium adjacent to the field used in the movie? What should be done if we do get to bask in the glory of our national pastime this season?

Here’s an idea. Play the game in Dyersville anyways.

Baseball has proposed a wild concept of playing every game this season under quarantine in Arizona.

If that’s the case, then bring the Yankees and White Sox up to Dyersville for their much-anticipated game (keeping six feet of distance between each other, of course).

You could even have the players take separate cars and recreate the iconic aerial shot of the line of vehicles en route to the field.

Wouldn’t that be a sight? Just picture Brett Gardner yelling at Tim Anderson over the last parking spot while Giancarlo Stanton laughs and backs his car into the furthest parking spot possible so that he doesn’t ding it with a foul ball.

MLB wouldn’t even need to finish the other field and stadium. Instead, just use the bleachers erected in the movie that still remain on the first base side today.

And the crowd?

James Earl Jones, Kevin Costner and Amy Madigan. And no one else.

Of course, we’ll need Mr. Jones to recite his legendary speech.

It’s just the medicine that this country needs after this……whatever the hell we’re calling this.

Of course, anything could change between now and August and there’s still a possibility that baseball won’t be played until next year.

But let’s not think that way. Even if the hope is false, we need something to be excited about.

A live rendition of Field of Dreams could be just the ticket.

Just, please don’t let anyone choke on a hot dog in this version.

Kyle Long doesn’t think Mitchell Trubisky will be with Bears much longeron April 16, 2020 at 8:42 pm

Kyle Long doesn’t think Mitch Trubisky is going to be with the Chicago Bears for much longer.

Kyle Long is a big believer in Mitch Trubisky.

But the former Chicago Bears lineman does not believe that Trubisky’s future is in Chicago.

“Long answer short, the writing is on the wall for my friend,” Long said on Da Windy City Podcast. “We are potentially going to see him in another jersey in years to come here sooner rather than later. I think Nick Foles was brought in to be the starting quarterback. There is no real secret there.”

The Bears traded for Foles and his large salary this offseason, which all points towards exactly what Long is outlining. Trubisky hasn’t been what the Bears hoped he’d be when they traded up to draft him over Patrick Mahomes and Deshaun Watson. Now the merciful end for fans forced to watch him these past few years seems to be near.

As for why Trubisky was not as successful as everyone had hoped he would be, Long pointed the finger at himself among others.

“Unfortunately, lack of help,” Long said. “In the offensive line, which is why I am 270 pounds now and talking to you on zoom. I also think that the tight end position is something that needs to be addressed.”

Looking back on his career, Long got to play in only one playoff game — the famous ‘Double-Doink’ versus Philadelphia. Ironically, it’s one of the darkest moments of Trubisky’s tenure in Chicago that he can’t actually be blamed for. It was Trubusky who got the Bears into field goal range, it wasn’t him who missed the kick.
