Chicago Bears: Top players affected by Ted Ginn Jr., Tashaun GipsonRyan Heckmanon May 2, 2020 at 12:00 pm

The next wave of free agency has begun for the Chicago Bears, now that the 2020 NFL Draft is over. Chicago came away with seven selections in total, drafting in the second, fifth and seventh rounds, and now they continue to round out their roster.
On Thursday, general manager Ryan Pace signed a pair of veterans to fill key areas of need on this team. He brought in former New Orleans Saints wideout Ted Ginn Jr. along with safety Tashaun Gipson, who spent last year with the Houston Texans.
Ginn comes to the Bears knowing one thing and one thing only: Speed. He’s been one of the faster guys in the NFL for quite some time, and I think most people understand the value he brings to the Bears. More speed on offense was a huge need, and now the Bears have it in Ginn.
Gipson, meanwhile, has had a fairly underrated career. First off, he can play either safety spots, which will allow for Eddie Jackson to stay put at free safety. Second, Gipson knows what it’s like to play with an elite defense. He was a starting safety for that vaunted Jacksonville Jaguars defense back when they made an AFC Championship appearance in January of 2018.
To give you an idea of how effective Gipson was last year with Houston, he only allowed opposing quarterbacks a QBR of around 55.0. He also defended eight passes and came up with three picks. Throughout his career, Gipson has also been a healthy player for the most part. Dating back to his rookie year in 2012, Gipson has played in double-digit games every season, playing a full 16 games four times.
Both Ginn and Gipson will offer the Bears plenty of experience and talent in two areas the team needed more depth at, and even more so, a starter or two. Their presence will also immediately affect a couple of key players on the Bears. Let’s look at those players and how they will be affected.

If you are a Chicago Bulls fan and have been hoping beyond hope that the team will terminate head coach Jim Boylen, you may be getting your wish if some recent comments are any indication.
Immediately following the hiring of Executive Vice President of Basketball Operations, Arturas Karnisova, fans, almost in unison, demanded that his first act be to fire the head coach. Karnisovas has, from that moment, remained diplomatic. He has taken the high-road and only responded with general statements like ‘we’re evaluating all aspects’ at the moment — basically pre-canned talking points.
Boylen, for his part, has seemed to oscillate between being confident in his job security and borderline graveling for another opportunity. Boylen hasn’t spoken much recently, but based on some remarks from newly hired general manager Marc Eversley, Boylen should be very nervous.
Eversley’s hiring was made official yesterday and he did not waste any time firing a subtle warning shot in Jim Boylen’s direction.
This would not appear to bode well for Jim Boylen. #Bulls https://t.co/815BPDLFhH
— Patrick Sheldon (@P_Shels) May 1, 2020
When asked specifically about the status of Boylen, like Karnisovas, Eversley toed the line, stating it was too early to make a decision on his future and they want to take some time to evaluate. Again, this is not a surprise for a first time general manager in his introductory press conference.
However, Eversley showed perhaps he has a bit of a shrewd side to him. While it may have entirely been a coincidence, his comments emphasizing his motto of “players first” and creating a “players-first mentality” could not have stood in starker contrast to Boylen’s philosophy that Bulls fans have witnessed over the past couple of seasons.

I can guarantee that there isn’t one Bulls fan who read that quote from Eversley and said “that sounds exactly like Jim Boylen.” In fact, I imagine you read that and thought “yikes, that doesn’t sound good for Boylen.” That’s because it would be impossible to argue that Boylen has been a players’ coach. If anything, his Draconian and antiquated style has alienated most, if not all of his players.
While Eversley can say he wants to take his time and evaluate/observe Boylen — and by all means take all the time in the world — the fact is the end result will be the same. Boylen isn’t the guy. So save yourself some time and cut bait now.

Chicago Bears (Photo by Dylan Buell/Getty Images)
The Chicago Bears are locked into Mitchell Trubisky and Nick Foles going into 2020. They are going to need one of those two to step up and play well otherwise 2020’s season is going to be similar to the very mediocre 2019. 2018 was a brilliant year but they took a major step back in 2019 because of one position. They don’t even have average quarterback play which has led to them wasting a year of their elite defense.
There was some discussion on a local radio station called ESPN 1000. Friend of the program, David Kaplan, and his crew discussed what it would take for Rodgers to come to play for the Chicago Bears. They gave plenty of reasons why it would be a good idea and why it would be a bad idea.
Aaron Rodgers might be on his way out of Green Bay after the decision they made to draft Jordan Love from Utah State. It is hard to see Love sitting on the bench for four years or more so this could lead to Rodgers playing for another team one day. What if that team really did turn out to be the Bears?
A lot of people simply don’t want him because of the fact that he is a Packer. That might be the most ridiculous thing ever if he is capable of playing quarterback at a high level. Jim McMahon went and played for the Packers late in his career, former Detroit Pistons star Dennis Rodman came to play for the Chicago Bulls, and Johnny Damon played for the New York Yankees late in his career after becoming a Boston Red Sox postseason legend.
The fact of the matter is that winning is important. Yes, by the time the 2020 season starts, Rodgers will be 37 years old. With that said, at that age, he is probably still going to be a significantly better option than anything the Bears have. These are three packages that might get it done after this year:

Chicago Bears (Photo by Mitchell Leff/Getty Images)
Late Saturday afternoon, Ryan Pace and the Chicago Bears ended the suspense around the decision whether to pick up Mitchell Trubisky‘s fifth-year option. The team put out a press release announcing they would be declining Trubisky’s option, signaling the end could be near for Mitch’s time in Chicago. Regardless of how you feel about Mitch, the decision to decline the option was the correct one.
There have not been many quarterbacks over the last five year who have had their option declined. It’s a tough pill to swallow for an organization because it typically means you have come to grips with the fact that you made the wrong decision on your franchise quarterback.
For the Bears, that realization particularly stings because they had a “win-now” roster that they were able to build, in large part, due to Trubisky’s cheap rookie deal. But when they traded for Nick Foles during the offseason, the writing was on the wall for Mitch.
But again, even if you think Trubisky can still be the guy — and perhaps he can and prove the doubters wrong — there was still little reason to pick up the option. In fact, it seemed like such a logical move that the fact it had not been announced until today was a bit confounding.
The cost of Mitch’s fifth-year option would have been approximately $25 million. While the option would only have been guaranteed for injury, that is still too significant a risk to take, especially considering the franchise tag for next year is likely to come in at around $29 million (2020 franchise tag is at about $26 million).
Now the Bears have sent Mitch a message. Improve or you will find yourself without a job in 2021. Fear can be a great motivator for many, and the Bears hope this is the case with Mitch. He has largely been handed the starting job in Chicago and has not had the threat of losing his job until this year.
It’s time for Mitch to swink or swim. If he swims and balls out this season, the team can tag him for only a few million more than the cost of the option, or work out a long term deal and minimize the cap hit. When you analyze the options of each course of action, it’s clear to see there was little to be gained by picking it up and potentially a lot to lose. The attention now turns to Mitch to see how he handles the news.

Chicago 3 year old Style Stars enter into Vogue Magazine and Billy Porter’s Met Gala Challenge
Anyone that loves fashion knows that the annual Met Gala is Fashions biggest night of the year. Unfortunately due to the Corona virus Pandemic, this year’s Met Gala has been cancelled. The event was scheduled to be held on May 4. To honor the iconic night, Vogue and Billy Porter teamed up on a new Instagram challenge that calls fashion lovers around the world to recreate their favorite met gala looks from previous years. Contestants have an opportunity to win a feature in vogue magazine. Now that might not sound like a be a big deal for some but as for these mini style stars it would be a dream come true!
Take a look below to see how The Heath Dolls transformed into Lupita Niyong’o and Winnie Harlow from their 2019 Met Gala appearance. Don’t worry we’’ll also tell you everything we used to pull off the iconic looks! Hit the Like Button if you think they nailed it and don’t forget to share!
Meadow Reign as Lupita
Lupita’s Dress- We created the top by using an old dress that featured similar tulle colors on the back. We wore the dress backwards and added a wire hanger inside to give a butterfly effect on arms. We then added another old dress to create the bottom of the dress.
Lupitas Fan- We wrapped a colorful tutu skirt around an old fan and magic happened.
Lupitas Hair- We teased and lifted the hair to create a full Afro affect. We then pinned up the sides to create structure and added in dads old school pics! #nailedit
Lupitas makeup- We did a heavy pink shadow on the lids and recreated the dark brow lining around the eyes. We finished the Look with a rich dark lipstick.
Columbia Skye Heath as Winnie
Winnies Dress- We used a old feather collar/cape to create the top. We then used mommy’s old beaded blazer dress to create a wrap skirt with open split. #Nailedit
Winnies purse- We used a large Christmas ornament and attached belt chain for the strap #nailedit
Winnies Hair- We created a soft blond bang using colored extensions previously worn by mommy. We finished the look with a medium messy bun that was also wrapped in blond extensions to finish the look
Winnies makeup- We mirrored Winnies look by using soft shades of pink eyeshadow. We finished the look with a soft shade of pink lipstick.
We hope you love these recreations as much as we do and if so please share our photos and use hashtag #Metgalachallege Wish us luck and thank you in advance!

How is everyone doing out there in isolation land? During these precarious circumstances, I think we can all agree that people are coming together and looking for ways to make everyone’s days a little brighter. In this case, a little louder.
I found out about Justin Quandt and his DJ Balcony Series through the Hello South Loop page on Facebook and I had to learn more.
“I had been interested in DJing for a long time, but I finally decided to pursue it seriously after my mom passed away three years ago. She always encouraged me to pursue my passion and creativity. As I was working through the emotions and reflecting on things, I realized I had been working and worrying so much the previous few years, I had been neglecting my creative side – something that is key to my happiness.”
“I found an amazing program and school called Scratch Academy, where I had the opportunity to be mentored by long-time highly experienced DJ’s. It was a year-long program that really accelerated the learning curve. Immediately I loved it, and I started attending the practice hours on top of the weekly classes.”
“I love music because it creates a universal, non-spoken language and it has the power to unite people of different backgrounds, nationalities, and cultures in such a positive way. I have always enjoyed making other people happy, and it fills me up to see people smiling, dancing, and enjoying life.”
“The Balcony Series was an idea I had on a whim. The first week I had no idea if people would be into it, and I was freezing cold (it was 20 degrees outside), but I went for it. My building (JeffJack) called me the next day. I thought they were going to say they received complaints and to stop, but instead, they said: “That was awesome, can you do it again next Saturday?” Since then, each week it has been growing, with last week hitting over 3,000 views. I play all kinds of genres based on what I’m feeling that week, but house, disco, and hip-hop are my favorites.”
“I do it primarily for the love of the music and to give something of value to other people, but recently I have been receiving more inquiries for paid work from companies and organizations. I’m excited that it’s becoming a bigger part of my life.”

DJ Quantify is on Facebook and SoundCloud, so get your groove on and check him out. The beauty of dancing under quarantine is that no one is judging you, so dance like no one is watching (because they aren’t). You can send all inquiries to [email protected].
There’s more to Justin than his creative side. He’s also an entrepreneur who opened up a 5,000 square foot fitness center called the Foundry. I have packed on a few pounds during the quarantine, and after looking at the Foundry’s website, I’m feeling inclined to get motivated and back in shape. Classes are only available online for now including Core-ntine and At-Home WOD (workout of the day). Once we can go about our business, members can benefit from classes such as Team Workout and Barbell Club.
“My entrepreneurship side and my music side come from the same part of me. I get joy out of making other people happy, and I think both do that in different ways. My gym does that through helping people improve their fitness and giving them a positive, supportive environment, whereas I think my DJing allows people to dance, have fun, and express their emotions in a physical way. It’s been very challenging and stressful running a small retail business during the quarantine. Investing more time into DJing has been a kind of therapy, a way to express myself, process emotions related to the current situation, and stay connected to the outside world.”
I am looking forward to Balcony Beats tonight starting at 7:30 PM. This series is one of the things that has kept me sane with something to look forward to every week. See you on the dance floor (shoes not required).

Hello Chicago! I’ve taken some time away from Building Chicago, so I’d like to re-introduce myself and let everyone know what’s next! My name is Dion Hickles and I am a trained civil engineer, construction manager, real estate developer, broker, homemaker, gardener, interior designer and artist. Within this current climate, I wanted to expand the brand of my blog, Building Chicago, to include not only real estate related content, but also content that can help us all create better homes. For over twenty years, I have built commercial buildings large and small, improved residential edifices across the Midwest, thrown lavish parties and have been dubbed a young granny by my acquaintances, near and far. As we’re under day 48 of quarantine, we are being forced to look at our homes, find ways to improve them, appreciate where they flourish and also take the time to care for our human sanctuaries, or physical bodies.
I will not only share recipes by technique and feel sans measurements but also baked goods that require a blueprint to the finish line. I’ll also share ways of operating your home that will make it easier to navigate daily life. Here, I’ll focus on techniques, tips and teachings that I’ve learned from my own grandmothers, cooks and efficient operators of the home in an effort for you to apply those teachings to your own home and lifestyle.
This blog will also serve as a hub for all things real estate: construction, home sales’ outlook, real estate trends, interior design tips and tricks and a source of information that will help anyone looking to beautify their home and make their home more efficient and enjoyable as we navigate this global pandemic and work to stay healthy, safe and sane.
Building a home in Chicago is no easy feat. It is expensive, time-consuming, frustrating and messy. On the flip-side, building a home is a labor of love, satisfying, beautiful and fruitful. My home is named The Honeycomb and is located in the South Shore community of Chicago, 10 miles southeast of the loop. It is where my friends and acquaintances come to be fed, laugh, party, be loved on and most of all: rest. There’s a running joke among my friends that when they sleep here they get the best rest. That’s such a great compliment because I live and work for my home and I believe everyone should have a safe, welcoming and comfortable home where they can recharge from the rigors of life. I will reference The Honeycomb as we go along this journey of home-building and will encourage you to find a fitting and true name for your own home.
I will share the good, great and ugly that comes with creating a home for yourself and your loved ones in the hopes that Building Chicago will help you build your home into the sanctuary and safe-place it should be for you and yours. Stay home, builders!

Because of living in Chicago, I’ve become a master parallel parker. I’m also damn good at backing into a garage or parking space. But not everyone is.
For example, whenever my sister from Indy comes to visit, she always hands me her keys so I can park her car. For whatever reason, she just can’t do it. Believe me, I’ve seen her try. It isn’t pretty. So, as she’s looking for a new car, I’ve recommended she get something with park assist.
This is yet another feature that goes by many different names depending on the manufacturer, but thankfully, most automakers use some form of “park assist” or “parking assistant” in the title to clue you in. The idea is, the car will help you either parallel or perpendicular park the vehicle using cameras and radar.
Depending on how advanced the system is, it may only activate steering, and the driver has to use the brakes. Some will operate both steering and braking. So, all you have to do is hit a button and follow the directions on screen.
Using the new Ford Escape as an example, the Advanced Park Assist will measure available parallel parking spaces to find one the vehicle will fit in, then steer and brake to get the vehicle in the spot. The driver, however, must shift into drive or reverse.
The system can park the vehicle on either side of the street, just use your turn signal to indicate which side you’re parking on.
A great thing about the Advanced Park Assist on Ford vehicles is that it will also get you out of a spot. This could be especially helpful in Chicago when someone has parked a little close for comfort!
Below is a video from Ford Motor Co. walking you through how the system works.

What!! WTF!! How could I say that?
Here’s how: Ravinia cancels entire 2020 summer season due to coronavirus pandemic
YES!! For the first time since 1935!!
Now, for those of you who wonder why I hate Ravinia, please peruse this past post found here.
Seriously, read it, it’s my finest work.
What this means is that I shall not have to endure all my friends and colleagues rushing up to me breathlessly shouting, “Have you seen the Ravinia schedule yet!!! My favorite band the (Band Name Here) will be at Ravinia on (Summer Date Here).
What does that mean? Allow me to translate:
On the hottest day of the year, with a threat of severe thunderstorms, large hail and tornadoes, a group of octogenarians will play songs that meant so much to you when you were 19.
You shall enjoy the tinny sound coming from the small speakers while sitting on a lawn with one trillion other people catching malaria from the mosquitos.
Who’d want to miss that?
Now, I am amazed that a world war was unable to stop the music, but my little friend Covid-19 (I call her Covey, and yes, it’s a she) was able to bring them to a screeching halt.
So, my friends, miracles do happen!
Now, let me actually address something a little more serious. The issue of the quarantine.
Like all of you, I have been slowly going quite mad sitting in my house with my wife who is also trapped.
I mean, I used to work from home all the time, but my day was more like this:
“OK, honey, I’m starting work.”
OK, I’m going to the gym and the store.”
“Bye, love you!”
“Love you!”
And then she’d be gone for about 7 or 8 hours.
I would work and then enjoy lunch and be just about ready to go to the gym when she got back.
So, we’d see each other at dinner. It was great.
Now, it’s:
“OK, honey, I’m starting work.”
“OK, but help me rearrange this furniture for no reason between your conference calls.”
Followed by:
“You’re eating NOW? You’re eating THAT?
{Sigh}
What is this quarantine accomplishing?
Well, in essence, what it is accomplishing is slowing the pace of the disease as it goes through the population, with the goal being to help prevent our health care facilities from being overwhelmed. And, it does seem to be working.
On the other hand, it will inevitably make its way through and it will claim more lives, but, we hope to be able to save some lives by avoiding settings where there is a lack of critical staff or equipment.
It’s not a great time. No one is happy, but I do sincerely think it’s the right thing to do.
So, my friends, bear with the burden of the extended quarantine, taking comfort in the knowledge that RAVINIA IS CANCELED!!
Woo Hoo!!
And if anyone tells you they really love Ravinia-STAY SKEPTICAL!!
