Public Affairs with Jeff Berkowitz
Better than Flannery on Fire, Watch Berkowitz w/14th CD R cand Oberweis in Chicago this morning 8:30 am & in Aurora tmw evening 6 pm & on web 24/7
Jim Oberweis: “I’m not a politician-I’m a businessman, an entrepreneur elected to a political office to help our country grow in the right ways.”
Watch Berkowitz w/IL 14th CD R Candidate Jim Oberweis, as State Sen. Oberweis (R-Sugar Grove) takes on one of the most vulnerable Democratic Party U. S. Reps. in the Country, freshman Cong. Lauren Underwood (R- Naperville, 14th CD)
The show airs this morning in Chicago at 8:31 am on Cable Ch. 19 (CAN TV) and Monday night in Aurora at 6 pm on Cable Ch. 10 (ACTV-10)
You can also watch 24/7 by clicking here the show featuring Jim Oberweis
The show also airs this Tuesday night in 25 Chicago Metro North and Northwest suburbs at 8:30 pm:
-on Cable Ch. 19 in Buffalo Grove, Elk Grove Village, Hoffman Estates, parts of Inverness, Lincolnwood, Morton Grove, Niles, Northfield, Palatine, Rolling Meadows and Wilmette and
The show covers in detail what most view as the most important issues in the 14th CD race, most other CD races around the country and the Presidential race (1) re-opening the economy & schools, (2) how the President, state governors and city mayors have handled Covid19 and the Economy- past and future and (3) crime, looting and protests.
We also cover many other important issues: taxes (including Trump tax cuts and their impact on keeping Corporate HQ and operations in the U.S), what Oberweis calls the “Pritzker-Madigan tax increase,” on the ballot in November, healthcare, law and order, BLM, Rev. Corey Brooks and his work in helping thousands on Chicago’s South side survive; George Floyd and police misconduct; China, tariffs, IP and Trade.
Also covered are Speaker Madigan’s scandals & what Oberweis says is Madigan’s significant financial help to Lauren Underwood; Antifa and the riots, voting by mail, Oberweis’ view that state & local bailouts would not be helpful to IL or the country, unemployment insurance federal supplements and Jim Oberweis’ contention that Cong. Underwood has failed to respond to inquiries about her positions on key issues.
****************
Finally, we discuss Sen. Oberweis’ effort to help Republicans turn the U. S. House red, with, for starters, the defeat of Rep. Lauren Underwood, rated by the impartial UCLA institute as the 2nd most liberal freshman C. in House, even more so than the so called “Radical squad.”
The IL 14th CD electorate is generally recognized to favor Republicans by at least six or seven points.
********************************
You can also watch the show featuring Jim Oberweis by clicking here 24/7

Fifty years of classic rock classicsHoward Mooreon August 30, 2020 at 10:45 am
I’ve Got The Hippy Shakes
Fifty years of classic rock classics
If you’re from my generation, classic rock is probably your go-to genre of music. Yeah, you may try to pretend that you’re cool and hip enough to love newer types of music, but we always seem to come back to the songs and records that we loved when we were young.
1970 was a big year in the world of classic rock. It was six years after the British Invasion and only a short time into the singer-songwriter era. Some musicians were taking a final stand, while others were making an early statement that would thrust them into the musical mainstream.
Fifty years is a long time for music to hold up and still be relevant. Here are some tunes and albums from that year that are still considered classic.

Meet The Blogger
Howard Moore
My so called friends think it’s time to edit this section. After four years, they may be right, but don’t tell them that. I’ll deny it until they die!
I can’t believe I’ve been writing this blog for four years.
It started as a health/wellness thing and over the years has morphed to include so many things that I don’t know how to describe it anymore.
I really thought this was going to be the final year of the blog but then Donald Trump came along. It looks like we’re good for four more years..God help us all!
Oh yeah…the biographical stuff. I’m not 60 anymore. The rest you can read about in the blog. -

More messy reporting
We were greeted with this headline this morning: “Congress won’t get briefings about election security because ’we got tired’ of leaks, Trump says”
Not quite. From the headline, we are led to believe that the Trumps administration will stiff Congress by not
John Ratcliffe
giving it any more briefings. I just listened to Director of National Intelligence John Ratcliffe tell Maria Sara Bartiromo on Fox News that the briefing would continue according to the law. In other words, the intelligence committee leadership will continue to get the intelligence briefings.
But no longer will the entire Congress be briefed. When he did before, he said, within minutes some members of Congress went to several media outlets to leak classified information. I would point out that such leaks are a violation of law.
He said he’s fed up with these damaging leaks for political purposes. Like misbehaving children, they no longer can be trusted.

Where the hell are my former professional journalism colleagues?Dennis Byrneon August 30, 2020 at 4:50 pm
The Barbershop: Dennis Byrne, Proprietor
Where the hell are my former professional journalism colleagues?
Peek a boo, Joe. I see you.
They would never have let a presidential candidate of any party get away without having to answer hard questions from journalists.
Not any more. There’s hardly a peep–never mind any outrage–from the collective media about Democratic presidential candidate Joe Biden hiding in the weeds. Where are the editorials, the professional journalism organizations and the commentators who demand that this dodge end? I might have missed a voice or two from the left demanding that Biden do what every other candidate in recent memory has done. But there’s no unified voice, passionately kicking down the doors that are holding them back from interviewing Biden.
Every newsroom used to have what were nicknamed “door kickers” that would never allow a political candidate or public official get away with such an insult to the public’s right to know. There would be daily reminders in the newspapers and on the air that Biden was–take your pick–cowardly, incompetent or arrogant.
As a former journalist, I am astonished how today’s reporters, producers and editors have silently allowed themselves to be relegated to–what?–not even observers as they are not allowed anywhere near the candidate to ask tough questions. The few interviews he has given to favored media should have been an embarrassment to poseurs who call themselves journalists. My God, have they no pride? Do they not give a damn about their readers, viewers and listeners? Why are they so willing to silently stand by as their cherished role as the fourth estate gets so thoroughly gutted by political hacks? Has the media’s liberal bias blinded them to how they are being so easily manipulated by the backroom punks who think they are smarter and oh-so-entitled to run things?
The effort to hide Biden from the media by his “advisors” has been so transparent and degrading that you’d think that even the staunchest of Democratic partisans would, at least out of shame, protest. Maybe some already are as The Hill reports in “Biden faces calls to be more active with media.” But that’s only an additional reason for the media to be ashamed, as the first calls for Biden to be accountable are coming from his own allies who are afraid of public pushback and not from journalists.
Biden should have the guts to forthrightly stand up for his principles, his constituents and his party instead of cowering back home. The laughable excuse that he’s hole up because it’s his duty to follow the coronavirus “guidelines” is so ridiculous that it makes his supporters who repeat this lie look like fools. If the Biden team was so determined to follow whatever guidelines supposedly confine Biden to his basement, they wouldn’t be hawking vice presidential candidate Kamala Harris to whatever friendly media outlet they could find.
Democrats think they can get alway with this strategy because they are counting on their supporters to vote like sheep. Doesn’t matter what the candidate says. Doesn’t matter what he does. Just show up and dutifully cast your vote for an enigma. Baa baa.

Health Care Mythologies
What Do You Think, Doctor?
I think I have been asked this question more often this past year, than almost any other time.
The question nearly always arises these days in reference to Covid-19.
What do I think? Are we doing too much? Too little?
Is it real? Is it a hoax?
First, a disclaimer.
I am an oncologist, not an infectious disease expert.
Second, I am exposed to much of the same information as the public, with an occasional medical journal article.
So, without further ado, here is what I think:
I don’t know.
Or, perhaps better put, I don’t know all.
Here is what I think, however:
1) This is not a hoax.
Covid-19 is very real. It is more infectious than the flu and it is almost certainly deadlier.
The problem is, the death rate is skewed by the fact that we really don’t know the true denominator of how many people actually had it.
If 40% have virtually no symptoms, it is possible that the percent who actually die of the disease is less than we thought.
However, let me assure you that all these viral videos purporting it to be a fake disease is just total bullshit.
Please, do not get suckered in by these bizarre conspiracy theories.
2) Is there a treatment or cure?
I think it is fair to say that there appear to be some treatments that may help, but the data is very unclear.
Let me give you an example.
One of the most powerful drugs we have to fight cancer is adriamycin.
When first discovered, it was tried out on cancer patients, and the conclusion was that it didn’t work.
Then, when someone reviewed the data, they said, “Wait. You only gave this drug to people who were almost dead. It was too late. Let’s try it earlier.”
They did, and it was proven to be very effective.
The same may be said for many of the agents being used today.
If I give Drug X to someone who is almost dead, chances are they are going to die anyway, and the drug will seem ineffective.
On the other hand, if I give it to someone who is only mildly ill, it may seem to work wonders, but that’s because those people were going to get better anyway.
So the same drug can appear worthless or miraculous. We won’t know until better studies are done.
3) Will I get the vaccine?
Yep.
4) Are you nervous about it being rushed?
Yep. But I’m still going to get it.
5) What about all this mask crap?
Really annoying, I agree with you.
And, I do worry that we are setting ourselves up for something worse.
Part of kids growing up is getting exposed to all sorts of infections. Now they are not.
But the viruses and bacteria are all still out there. So, at some point, when they are back in school, with no masks, they’ll all have colds, strep, GI Flu (which my granddaughter seems to have now, BTW) and all the other stuff kids get.
It will be a challenge.
Personally, I think we have got to end this lock down.
It was initially started to relieve the health care facilities that were being overwhelmed.
They aren’t now, and I think we need to let people begin to live their lives.
Yes, some will inevitably die.
Personally, i think we are merely postponing it.
Those at highest risk will remain there.
So, if it’s not Covid, it’ll be the flu, pneumonia or something else.
I know that this sounds incredibly harsh coming from a physician, but we simply cannot remain in this state forever.
We need to emerge, slowly, with precautions, but we must emerge.
In the end, we will have a vaccine, it will work it’s way through our society, and it may become one of those illnesses that occurs in the background and we don’t write front page news articles about it anymore.
Just like we don’t write about people killed by the flu, cancer, car accidents, etc. It will just be part of life.
However, be aware that if anyone claims to know “THE TRUTH” about Covid-19: STAY SKEPTICAL!
