Watch Wirepoints’ Ted Dabrowski predict on March 19 that it would have been better for IL not to shut down, Cable & Web

Ted Dabrowski: At what point is the human & economic toll of shutting down America greater than the human toll of the virus itself.

If Governor Pritzker had done what Ted Dabrowski recommended on March 19 (when tonight’s show was taped), that is, concentrated on protecting the elderly, especially those in nursing homes, could as many as 2000 elderly IL lives have been saved?

Tonight’s Chicago North & Northwest suburban edition of Public Affairs airs at 8:30 pm on Cable Ch. 19 or 35 (see, below for more cable airing details). The show features Ted Dabrowski, President of Wirepoints, debating w/show host Jeff Berkowitz, as of two months ago, whether:

(1) the Fed’s and State Government decisions mandating a catastrophic economic shut-down was a major mistake and

(2) IL and Chicago were going to be hurt much more than other states & cities by the shutdown

The show was taped March 19 and in large part revolves around the question: Would it have been good policy as of the time of the taping for the U. S. to reverse policy, i.e., stop the Federal engineered shut-down of the U. S. Economy?

Not discussed on the show, but herd immunity and the lessons of micro-biology probably would have obviated the need for mandatory social distancing, masks and “Stay at home,” orders.

In the middle of March, 2020 President Trump said he was contemplating reversing course on the COVED19 virus by the end of March. He was getting itchy over the destruction of the U. S. Economy.

What if Trump had followed that course reversal? Would the country have been so much better off?

As the President said then, the cure most likely will turn out to have been worse than the disease.

All of life is a matter of considering trade-offs and making tough choices, balancing benefits and costs, and that is what President Trump (and Governor Pritzker) should have done– and that is what Berkowitz and Dabrowski debate and discuss in tonight’s show.

If Governor Pritzker had done what Dabrowski recommended on March 19, most likely the total lives lost and other suffering (suicides, drug ODS, domestic violence, etc.) from COVID19 and the purported cure would have been much, much less.

And, that’s the benefit-cost analysis that should have been debated by Congress, the President, his senior advisers and the American people.

Ted Dabrowski: It’s here: It’s not an IL or Chicago specific crisis, it’s a global crisis, but now we are wrapped in it. And, everything that we were worried about, that we talked about- those of us who want to see reforms-– it’s coming true, it’s come true…the crisis, the recession… and what it spells is massive trouble for Illinois– relative to other states.
