But, just how short of a leash will he have? If Trubisky struggles at all within the first two games, it would be very likely we see Nick Foles by Week 3 or Week 4. The fans know it. The media knows it. The coaches know it. This team doesn’t have time to waste.

With the defense in place, general manager Ryan Pace is not in position to buy time when it comes to the most important position in football.

So, with Rosen available, do the Bears consider carrying three quarterbacks?

Matt Nagy already said his Chicago Bears will carry two kickers, so what’s one more quarterback?

It’s a logical point. The team is ready to carry two kickers, whether the second is kept on the practice squad or active roster. So, what’s wrong with carrying a third quarterback in a year where depth and health is at an even higher premium?

Rosen is a former first-round pick for a reason — so is Trubisky, some might argue. But, that’s another debate.

In the history of unfair situations, Rosen’s might top them all. His career has begun worse than just about anyone in recent memory, especially given the position he plays. In Arizona, the new coaching staff was ready to give up on him after Year 1 because they had a chance to draft Kyler Murray.

Then, in Miami, the Dolphins decided to bring in veteran Ryan Fitzpatrick, roll with him, and then draft Tua Tagovailoa in the first round this year. So, Rosen has essentially been left for dead by two franchises in a matter of two years.

Rosen turned 23 in February. He started 13 games as a rookie, surrounded by the league’s worst roster — and it wasn’t even close. Last season, he started just three games surrounded by what many called the worst roster in the league as well — an organization which was attempting to completely strip its roster why season’s end.

The point, here, is that no one really knows what this kid’s potential is. His ceiling could be one that nobody has even scratched just yet. If he’s put in the right scenario, Rosen very well could surprise.

So, at a cost which is likely to be next to nothing, the Bears should absolutely be in on Rosen. Bring him in for depth, see what he can do in practice, and at the very least, allow him to compete for the backup position next year — if not more.

Not only does Trubisky need to win games, but he also has to play well enough where there’s no doubt left in the minds of coaches and teammates on who the starting quarterback should be. Trubisky cannot start the season slow and expect to keep his job. He has to win games and put up numbers to back up his offseason work.

The first three seasons means nothing going forward for Trubisky. It’s all about the 2020 NFL season. If Trubisky can go out, lead the Bears to the playoffs, and win a playoff game or two, he’s proven the coaches right and will keep his job in 2021. If he struggles this season and the team misses the playoffs again, Trubisky will be a free agent and will likely be out of Chicago.

It’s time for fans to stop comparing him to other quarterbacks and remember how young he actually is. He started one year in college and was drafted high to a team that was in the midst of rebuilding with no offensive weapons. This season, it’s Year 3 with a few of these offensive weapons, along with Chicago, hopefully, figuring out the tight end position.

Trubisky might never put up the stats Patrick Mahomes does, but that doesn’t mean he can’t become a solid quarterback for the Chicago Bears and stay here for the long-term. Fans, it’s time to put your trust in Trubisky one last time. It’ll be worth it.

All offseason, Bears fans debated the competition over social media. The Haters, the Truthers, and the Apathetics (or those who don’t believe either is a great option) all dug in on their positions. For those fans who hoped naming a starting quarterback would bring closure to the argument, they are going to be sorely disappointed.

You see, this controversy is not going away anytime soon.

Despite the non-adversarial nature of this quarterback competition, Trubisky will be under the most pressure he’s faced as a Bear. That’s because Nick Foles, the man standing ready to take his place, has won a Super Bowl and Super Bowl MVP and has a penchant from saving seasons.

The Bears can’t afford to waste another, which is why every throw and series will be under immense scrutiny. Mitch could light the world on fire in game one, but if he throws up a clunker in the first half of game two, fans will be calling for a change.

Look to Philadelphia, where many Eagles fans called for Carson Wentz, an exceedingly better quarterback than Trubisky, to take a back seat to Foles. Why, because Foles plays his best football when the games matter most and there is no stronger love affair than that between fans and the backup quarterback.

There is no doubt this is going to be a challenging season for Bears fans. It will almost certainly be filled with ups and downs as two meddling quarterbacks vie for your heart by doing just enough to not be as bad as the other guy.

All we can hope for is that one of them has some magical run tucked away and can give the defense just a little help.

The Texans had released him just one year removed from signing him to a $22.5 million deal. However, they decided to part ways with the former Pro Bowler after placing him on injured reserve.

At the time the Bears signed him, it seemed like a terrific move. However, as training camp winds to a close, it appears Bears mainstay Deon Bush has really impressed the coaching staff. Likely aided by his familiarity with the team, Bush has separated himself in camp which could make Gipson expendable.

Chicago Bears to name Bush the starter?

According to Brad Biggs of the Chicago Tribune, he is “not convinced Gipson is a lock for the roster.” He goes on to state that Bush is the “likely starter” and makes it clear that the Bears decision on Gipson will not be money-driven. He notes that the Bears only guaranteed him $550,000 of his one-year $1,050,000 contract.

If the Bears have decided on Bush as the starter, it is unlikely they are going to pay Gipson that much to play special teams.

Moreover, the Bears recently signed veteran Marquis Christian, who has much more versatility than Gipson in that he can play the strong safety spot as well as on the boundary in nickel and dime packages. Christian also has a lot of value on special teams, whose chances of securing a roster spot increase significantly if Gipson is cut.

For Bush, it would be a well-deserved vote of confidence, who has been with the Bears his entire four-year career. Bush has paid his dues and made the most of the opportunity this year when the position became open. He now has the opportunity to prove the coaching staff’s confidence in him is deserved. It won’t hurt that he’s playing behind an elite defensive front-seven and alongside an All-Pro like Eddie Jackson. Nevertheless, it appears to be Deon Bush’s time to shine.
