Chicago Blackhawks Rumors: Kirby Dach is on the trade blockVincent Pariseon July 7, 2022 at 6:34 pm

There are a lot of rumors surrounding the Chicago Blackhawks on Thursday afternoon as we head into the 2022 NHL Draft. Alex DeBrincat is the hot commodity in the NHL world right now but some other names have entered the chat.

Chicago already knows that they made a mistake when they selected Kirby Dach with the third overall pick in the 2019 NHL Draft. Jack Hughes and Kaapo Kakko were locks to go ahead of him but that third pick was intriguing.

Bowen Byram would have been the smart pick but even a guy like Trevor Zegras would have been considerably better. Now, a lot of Dach’s shortcomings are Chicago’s fault because he was handled as a prospect very poorly.

Now, it sounds like Dach is on the trade block along with DeBrincat. It is hard to know what his value is at this point. It certainly isn’t a top-five pick like he was a few years ago but he still has a high ceiling. If he went t another team and became a very good player, nobody should be surprised.

The Chicago Blackhawks may be interested in trading Kirby Dach at this point.

John Dietz of the Daily Herald is a Chicago Blackhawks beat reporter that reported that the talks were ā€œheating upā€. He made sure to mention that both Columbus and Detroit are in play with this pick. There was also a note in the tweet about Chicago wanting a first-round pick.

Hearing that the Kirby Dach talk is ā€œreally heating up.ā€

Columbus and Detroit in play. Hawks want a first rounder. We’ll see where it all goes.

— John Dietz (@johndietzdh) July 7, 2022

Those teams looking at him have to decide if Dach’s ceiling is higher than any of the prospects available to them in the draft. Depending on the spot of their pick, that is certainly possible. He still has the potential to be a player that can help a team win.

Let’s say it was Detroit who landed him. They’d be adding Dach to a group that is already close to being done with a rebuild. He wouldn’t go there and be the savior of the franchise as a former third overall pick. He would just blend in nicely with that group.

The Hawks brought him to the NHL way too soon and he struggled to produce or develop. Then, once he finally had his breakout in the bubble, they let him go get hurt at the 2021 World Junior Classic. It was just a mess from the beginning.

If the Hawks decide to move Dach, they better be sure that they are in the rebuild for the long haul. More players could be sent out this weekend so expect the unexpected. Seeing Dach’s name out there was definitely unexpected.

Classless Act Gear Up For Mötley Crüe Opening Slot Friday At Wrigley Field

Two weeks removed from the release of their debut album Welcome to the Show, following a spring tour with blues rockers Dorothy, Los Angeles rock quintet Classless Act are back on the road alongside Mƶtley Crüe, Def Leppard, Poison and Joan Jett as opening act on ā€œThe Stadium Tour,ā€ one of the summer’s most anticipated outings.

It’s the culmination of a whirlwind year for the group, helping to usher in a new era of rock alongside young acts like Dirty Honey, Greta Van Fleet and Mammoth WVH.

Classless Act formed in 2018 and the run in support of Dorothy, which stopped at Chicago’s House of Blues in April, marked the group’s first major tour following two years forced off the road amidst pandemic.

While the extra time allowed them to fine tune Welcome To The Show – an album produced by legendary producer Bob Rock (Mƶtley Crüe, Metallica, Bon Jovi) in Crüe drummer Tommy Lee’s home studio which features guest appearances by Justin Hawkins of The Darkness as well as Mƶtley vocalist Vince Neil) – 2022 has allowed them to hone their live act, tweaking a performance that needs to resonate in massive outdoor stadiums as well as it does within the intimate confines of a small club.

I spoke with Classless Act about working with Rock on their first album, the importance of social media for a young band and performing Friday afternoon at Wrigley Field (an early set scheduled to begin about 3:45 PM). Highlights from two conversations recorded backstage at House of Blues in April and last week over the phone prior to a ā€˜Stadium Tour’ appearance in Charlotte, North Carolina follow below.

So you guys formed in 2018, right? How far along were you by the time the pandemic hit in early 2020?

FRANCO GRAVANTE: We had just finished the first half of the album right before the pandemic hit. We were scheduled to finish it and then that happened and we wound up on standby for like a year.

The cliche phrase these days is that ā€œrock is dead.ā€ I don’t subscribe to it. But what’s it like being part of this new, younger generation of rock groups helping to usher in a new era of rock?Ā

DEREK DAY: What Zappa said about jazz: ā€œJazz isn’t dead. It just smells really funny.ā€ It’s funny when people say rock is dead. That’s the name of Dorothy’s first album: ROCKISDEAD. That’s her first album but she rocks so hard.Ā

How did you guys wind up on the Mötley Crüe radar?

FRANCO: We recorded the first half of the album in Tommy Lee’s studio actually – it was produced by Bob Rock. He used to come down in the middle of the sessions and just listen to it and have fun. He’s a pretty cool dude. Bob Rock and Tommy were friends. We’d spend a lot of time in the studio with Bob. We did like eight songs or something.Ā

What was it like working with and learning from Bob?Ā

DANE PIEPER: Even though Bob has produced bands dating back to the 80s and earlier, he was always willing to experiment with us, which was amazing. Because sometimes rock can be kind of put in like a bubble. But with all of our songs, he’d be like, ā€œWhy not try something out like this?ā€ That was kind of his catchphrase: ā€œWhy not this?ā€ So, a lot of experimenting. And, at the end of the day, we had a lot to learn from him. So, we really didn’t take a moment for granted.Ā

Did you guys grow up as Mötley Crüe fans?

DANE: Yeah!Ā

DEREK: Absolutely. My first band was like a Mƶtley Crüe, Skid Row cover band. We’d cover all of that stuff.

Dane Pieper (right) and Derek Day (left) of Classless Act perform on stage at House of Blues. Saturday, April 30, 2022 in Chicago, IL (Photo by Barry Brecheisen)

Growing up at a young age, where were you discovering acts like that? Who was exposing you to that stuff?Ā

GRIFFIN TUCKER: Personally, for me, my parents are a huge factor in the music that I grew up with. Especially going to school, my mom would always play the radio. She always knew that The Beatles would be a safe thing to listen to when I was young. But I would always listen to all of their CDs. You’d get the classics like Zeppelin and Guns N’ Roses and Queen and all of those great bands.

DEREK: Siblings, yeah.Ā

I was listening to ā€œTime To Bleedā€ this morning. And I love the message that’s in there about taking action. It’s a very nonpartisan message. How important was it to strike that chord and make sure that was part of the album?

CHUCK MCKISSOCK: I feel like it was very important.Ā

FRANCO: I’m responsible for the music. Derek and Justin Hawkins gave me a hand with those lyrics and melodies. The message is pretty cool. One of my favorite lines is, ā€œWoke ain’t a word, I think you mean awakened.ā€ That always cracks me up. Shout out to Keith Nelson for producing and mixing that song by the way.

How did you guys get linked up with Justin Hawkins and what was it like having him on a few tracks?Ā

FRANCO: It was amazing actually. Our manager introduced us to him. Really, really cool dude. He’s the best. He writes songs like on the spot. It’s amazing.Ā

How important has social media been for you guys in terms of both creating and maintaining a bond with fans?Ā

GRIFFIN: One of the big connections that I’ve really realized the more that we’ve played shows on [the Dorothy] tour is just putting so many faces to the profiles that we see on social media. We have so many wonderful fans that interact with us on our posts on Instagram or Twitter or any of these social media platforms. And we play these shows with Dorothy and afterwards we hang out at our merch table. And fans come up and say, ā€œHey, I’m so and so on Instagram!ā€ And we’re like, ā€œOh my gosh! I almost forgot that you are a real person!ā€ It’s unbelievable to think that someone outside like a five mile radius knows who we are, you know? And it’s just humbling. It’s an honor to get to see those people face to face.Ā

DANE: I think it’s really important to put a face to the music. I think why some people have the conception that rock is dead is that that kind of icon status really isn’t there that much anymore. When you hear of all of these bands like Guns N’ Roses or the Rolling Stones, you associate all of these things: Slash and Axl Rose with Guns N’ Roses, Mick Jagger with the Stones. With a lot of bands coming out, you don’t really know too many of the names or faces. So I think hanging out by the merch table is great to really let our personalities shine, so that whenever someone sees the name Classless Act, they imagine a face with it and a personality and energy with it.

So how have the stadium shows gone for you guys so far? How many has it been now?Ā

FRANCO: Five? Six? I think five. It’s been going great. People really like it. Everyone is being so nice to us. All of the crew, the production team, the guys from Poison and Mƶtley, Joan Jett. Everyone has been so kind and generous. They always say, ā€œWhatever you need, just let us know.ā€ But besides that the shows are going great thank god. People are liking it. I’m really having a good time.

Any baseball fans here as we look ahead to Wrigley Field?

DANE: Chuck and I grew up playing baseball and watching baseball. So even performing at these venues, hearing that it’s sold out…

CHUCK: There’s two for sure at Fenway Park which is outrageous. There’s one at Wrigley. So that’s another crazy thing to think about. Baseball, man!

Chuck McKissock performs on stage with Classless Act. Saturday, April 30, 2022 at House of Blues in Chicago, IL (Photo by Barry Brecheisen)

DEREK: I love baseball too. I grew up with it too. I played some tee ball and some other stuff.Ā

DANE: Aside from the hometown shows, there are a lot of new facilities too like SoFi Stadium. Derek, me and Franco saw the Rolling Stones play there last summer. What I’m also looking forward to is the stadium in Las Vegas. It’s brand spanking new. That’s where the Raiders play. So it’s crazy to think that we have the opportunity to play these top notch facilities.Ā

DEREK: To me, it’s become super clear why Def Leppard, Mƶtley Crüe, Joan Jett and Poison need a stadium to perform: Because they can just fill those seats up. It makes sense why they can still fill those seats up. They just have the whole audience in the palm of their hands. So one thing I’ve learned about performance is that there’s a certain epicness you need to have to play this kind of music – not just in your presence but in your songwriting. And I felt like, ā€œOK. These are really great songs. And there’s a reason why they have stadiums.ā€ So that’s one thing I learned from an artist perspective.

Being together each night on stage during soundcheck and during the shows, off stage in the bubble, has that given you an opportunity to play around a bit, see how things evolve and see how you can push it?Ā

DEREK: Absolutely. For me, vocally, I’m figuring out I can do funny things and fun things. But we always tend to have a lot of little band meetings sometimes before or after a show or the next day – ā€œHey, this was coolā€¦ā€ ā€œHey, let’s fix thisā€¦ā€ ā€œLet’s try thatā€¦ā€ Mainly those meetings are about performance but every now and then we tweak some things.Ā

GRIFFIN: For us, some of our favorite bands – for me, Zeppelin, I’m sure for Chuck it’d be like the Dead – but one of my favorite things to do when performing songs is like knowing where the line is, know where you can’t go too far but can push it just far enough so that you don’t go too far past. So we play the songs as they’re supposed to be played but maybe we try just like a few different licks maybe – throw it in and put it under the radar. So there’s always a little bit of spontaneity that keeps it fresh every night.

Is Your Voice Being Heard?

Is Your Voice Being Heard?

I am grateful and thankful for the many blessings in my life. I was raised Roman Catholic – that included attending church every day and confession every week. The dogma of my religion goes deep, so does guilt. For me, guilt was a huge part of being a catholic. Although I had difficulties believing everything that was being taught, those lessons stuck with me.

Why am I telling you this? Is this my confession? Kinda. I have to take a deep breath and look deep (but not too deep) to tell you how I feel.

I am Pro-Life. For me, this idea of abortion would live within me for the rest of my life. I think it would destroy me, change me, make me not who I am today. When I think of the idea of having an abortion, I get sick to my stomach with fear and worry.

What if I were raped? What would I do then? How could I carry and nurture a child created from violence and fear? What if my life were in danger with maybe a 3rd or 4th child? Who would raise these babies and love them as their mother if I were to die during their birth?

Life is filled with hard choices.

I acted as a Sexual Assault/Domestic Violence Advocate several years ago. That meant middle of the night calls from hospitals to intercede for women that had been raped. These women were filled with fear and shock. Many didn’t know who to call or what to do afterward. Some called angry parents that threw blame at them and just made the matter worse. My job was to speak for those who couldn’t speak for themselves at the time.

I learned a great deal from being in that position. One that has changed my life forever. I would never, ever expect to tell a woman that she has to see a pregnancy through and have a reminder every day of a child that violence created.

Life is filled with hard choices.

What would you do? Would you have to think about it for a long time? Adoption?

According to adopt.org, the time frame, like the cost varies with the type of child being adopted. Currently there are about 120,000 children waiting to be adopted. The time frame is between two and seven years for a healthy infant.

So, are you prepared to adopt? How about supplementing adoption facilities so these children awaiting adoption can have a decent life before they find their forever home? How about being a foster parent?

Come on, someone has to do it since you’ve now put a gun to someone’s head to have a child they didn’t want to have. It’s time to put your money where your mouth is. Are you prepared for this option?

Did you know that the rapist has biological rights to a child conceived out of rape? Unless convicted of the crime, a rapist would have the same rights as any other ā€œfather.ā€ Then, the rape victim has to try and get child support from him. Good luck with that one.Ā  Following is a website, broken down by state as to what a woman’s legal rights are. https://www.womenslaw.org/laws it may be of interest to you.

I am Pro-Choice and I will fight for the right to choose.

Fifty years ago, the Supreme Court ruled in Roe v Wade, that women have the right to choose what to do with their bodies. The current Supreme Court, by overturning that law, have decided that it was NOT a woman’s fundamental right to choose whether to have an abortion. This United Nations News Global perspective is included here https://news.un.org/en/story/2022/06/1121312

To overturn Roe v Wade is telling women that their right to decide about their own bodies is no longer an option. Let me repeat that – There is no option. Was this a political decision or a religious one? It certainly wasn’t a moral one.

I have been called a murderer for my beliefs of being Pro-Choice. Did you know believing in both was even an option? It’s actually not difficult.

Would you be able to live with your choice of having an abortion? This would totally be your choice – answer – it’s none of my business.

How would your abortion affect me? Easy – It’s none of my business.

What about if I had an abortion? Also easy – Its none of YOUR business.

In my mind, there is absolutely no situation where your beliefs, religious or otherwise, should infringe on my rights as a human being. Or at least this was the case before Roe v Wade was upturned.

How does the Supreme Court have the right to jam their religious beliefs down my throat or anyone else’s for that matter? Where is the separation of state and religion? What were they thinking? How does this help women? Horrifically, it simply is meant to control them.

When something or someone rescinds or removes my rights as a woman, a person, a human being, because of their own personal beliefs, it is not just simply wrong, it is fundamentally wrong and flies in the face on which this country was founded – all people being treated equally.Ā

My entire adult life, I knew I had the CHOICE to CHOOSE what was a viable option FOR ME. I will be damned if my kids and grandkids have less choices than I have had. This is a time for all women to come together and fight for what is right. You don’t believe in abortion FOR YOU? That’s fine, but it used to be my right to choose.

Life is filled with hard choices.

Former Chicago White Sox pitcher Chris Sale is still up to clubhouse hijinks, this time in Worcester

Former White Sox ace Chris Sale is back at it again with another strong show of emotions

For some people, old habits definitely die hard as former White Sox ace, now current Red Sox hurler Chris Sale displayed his passion for the game this past Wednesday night. He was on the mound for Boston’s AAA-affiliate Worcester Red Sox, in what was supposed to be his final rehab start before coming back to Boston.

Sale pitched only 3ā…” innings and allowed one run on three hits, striking out five. But that one run he allowed came thanks to a bases-loaded, two-out walk in the fourth. That was his fifth and final walk before he exited the game, rather passionately to be honest.

VIDEO: #RedSox pitcher Chris Sale upset after giving up a bases loaded walk & being taken out after 3 & 2/3 innings in a rehab start for the @WooSox (šŸ“ø: @bri4homes) @NBC10Boston @NECN https://t.co/1j1ga5kJaT

ā€œI know today was a little bit of a hiccup, but there’s nothing that can’t be ironed out,ā€ he explained to the Associated Press after the game.

Yeah, okay.

Sure, after a shaky outing any pitcher will let off some steam either in the dugout or clubhouse. But we’re talking about Chris Sale here. Full-time MLB pitcher, seven-time All-Star, and part-time clubhouse ā€œtailor.ā€ Well, maybe the latter was just a short-lived hobby after Sale threw a tantrum over his disdain regarding the White Sox’s throwback uniforms in 2016.

At that time, the White Sox were planning to outfit the team in the old 1976 collared navy and white uniforms. Sale wanted no part of that effort, claiming that they made him feel uncomfortable. And in a bonkers show of solidarity, he took a knife to his jersey – and every other one in the whole clubhouse, prompting a five-game suspension and what was likely the final straw that sent him packing for Boston later that year.

This time thankfully, no throwback jerseys seemed to be harmed during this event.

Bears QB Justin Fields works out with Chad Ochocinco

Bears QB Justin Fields worked out with Chad Ochocinco and Ohio State QB CJ Stroud

One of the few bright spots in another disappointing season for the Chicago Bears has been QB Justin Fields. Having shown flashes of greatness, there’s hope for Bears fans that the franchise has finally found a signal-caller that can lead the bears to success and the best option at the position since Jay Cutler.

Entering his second season as the quarterback of the Chicago Bears, its looks like Fields is getting some help from an two-time all-pro wide receiver in Chad Johnson.

Fields and the current Ohio State Buckeyes quarterback, CJ Stroud, are putting in some work and learning from one of the most influential and charismatic wide receivers of all time. The 10-year veteran hauled in 766 receptions scoring 76 touchdowns in 166 games.

After the below average season where he posted a 2-8 record, throwing more interceptions (10) than touchdown passes (7), Fields has been the talk of the offseason and a big step forward for the Bears as a franchise. Having a new Head Coach in Matt Eberflus and a new offensive coordinator in Luke Getsy, teammates are sounding off on the difference from a year ago.

Wide receiver Darnell Mooney tells ESPN,

ā€œHe wants to take over the league,ā€ Mooney said. ā€œHe’s already Justin Fields. He wants to be the best quarterback in the league. He’s taken the stride to be there. I got unbelievable faith that he will be there, and his success is my success. So, as long as he’s doing good, I’m doing good, we’re all doing good.ā€

Preseason stories aside, having former superstars like Chad Johnson working with the future of a franchise is always a great sight to see for all Bears fans. Especially in a city that has been looking desperately for a franchise superstar, Justin Fields could finally be the answer the Bears have been looking for.

Thursday might be the day that Alex DeBrincat is tradedVincent Pariseon July 7, 2022 at 4:50 pm

The 2022 NHL Draft is upon us and the rumor mill is swirling. There are plenty of people out there that believe that Alex DeBrincat is going to be traded. This is something that would shake up the Chicago Blackhawks organization and the National Hockey League in general.

DeBrincat has been amazing for the Hawks since coming to the NHL. He came in with a big shot and an ability to score big goals which helped him grow his game as a playmaker as well. Now, he is a player that every team in the league will want.

In 2021-22, the Blackhawks saw him have a career year. He was an All-Star because he was so good in the first half. He finished the year with 41 goals and 37 assists for 78 points in 82 games. He has proven that he can be a difference make in multiple different ways.

The problem for DeBrincat is that he is the right player at the wrong time. He joined the Chicago Blackhawks organization right as they were coming down from being one of the best teams in the NHL. Now, he is one of the only bright spots on a rebuilding team.

One of the teams I expect to be active today is the New Jersey Devils. I’ve been told they have a lot of wheels in motion, including potentially acquiring a goalie.

I also believe there is a good chance the Chicago Blackhawks trade Alex DeBrincat today. https://t.co/LrABzQsbuu

— Emily Kaplan (@emilymkaplan) July 7, 2022

The Chicago Blackhawks could move on from Alex DeBrincat at the draft.

He has one year left on his rather team-friendly deal. His next contract is probably going to be rather lucrative with a lot of term on it. The Hawks aren’t really in a position to be adding another high-value contract to their cap while they try to rebuild.

If they weren’t rebuilding, he would be a no-brainer to re-sign. They have Seth Jones’ big contract kicking in next year which makes things tough on them in the long term. Patrick Kane and Jonathan Toews each have one year left at 10.5 million as well which complicates a lot of things.

With the 2022 NHL Draft on Thursday night, trading DeBrincat might get them out of this problem. There are plenty of teams in the top five that could make this trade. The Hawks could certainly get a lot for him which has to make the idea of trading him appealing for Kyle Davidson.

Letting him go isn’t a fun decision but it is probably going to end up being the right decision. As long as the Blackhawks do well with the draft picks they get or prospects in return, they could use this to accelerate their rebuild. It isn’t a guarantee to happen but it very well could.
