Chicago Blackhawks Rumors: Kirby Dach is on the trade blockVincent Pariseon July 7, 2022 at 6:34 pm

There are a lot of rumors surrounding the Chicago Blackhawks on Thursday afternoon as we head into the 2022 NHL Draft. Alex DeBrincat is the hot commodity in the NHL world right now but some other names have entered the chat.

Chicago already knows that they made a mistake when they selected Kirby Dach with the third overall pick in the 2019 NHL Draft. Jack Hughes and Kaapo Kakko were locks to go ahead of him but that third pick was intriguing.

Bowen Byram would have been the smart pick but even a guy like Trevor Zegras would have been considerably better. Now, a lot of Dach’s shortcomings are Chicago’s fault because he was handled as a prospect very poorly.

Now, it sounds like Dach is on the trade block along with DeBrincat. It is hard to know what his value is at this point. It certainly isn’t a top-five pick like he was a few years ago but he still has a high ceiling. If he went t another team and became a very good player, nobody should be surprised.

The Chicago Blackhawks may be interested in trading Kirby Dach at this point.

John Dietz of the Daily Herald is a Chicago Blackhawks beat reporter that reported that the talks were “heating up”. He made sure to mention that both Columbus and Detroit are in play with this pick. There was also a note in the tweet about Chicago wanting a first-round pick.

Hearing that the Kirby Dach talk is “really heating up.”

Columbus and Detroit in play. Hawks want a first rounder. We’ll see where it all goes.

Those teams looking at him have to decide if Dach’s ceiling is higher than any of the prospects available to them in the draft. Depending on the spot of their pick, that is certainly possible. He still has the potential to be a player that can help a team win.

Let’s say it was Detroit who landed him. They’d be adding Dach to a group that is already close to being done with a rebuild. He wouldn’t go there and be the savior of the franchise as a former third overall pick. He would just blend in nicely with that group.

The Hawks brought him to the NHL way too soon and he struggled to produce or develop. Then, once he finally had his breakout in the bubble, they let him go get hurt at the 2021 World Junior Classic. It was just a mess from the beginning.

If the Hawks decide to move Dach, they better be sure that they are in the rebuild for the long haul. More players could be sent out this weekend so expect the unexpected. Seeing Dach’s name out there was definitely unexpected.
