3 players the Chicago Cubs should have traded before 2022Vincent Pariseon May 7, 2022 at 2:00 pm

The Chicago Cubs have gotten off to a brutal start in 2022. They are 9-15 after being swept by the Chicago White Sox earlier this week. They didn’t play on Friday due to some bad weather in the Chicagoland area. They are in big trouble for a variety of reasons.

One of the reasons is that they don’t manage their assets right anymore. They didn’t get max value for Javier Baez, Anthony Rizzo, or Kris Bryant in 2021 which was just a shame to see. Now, they are in danger of more lost assets because of bad decision-making.

There is still some time to do okay in the trade market but they should have acted faster during the offseason before and after the lockout. Hindsight is 20/20 but these are the three players they should have traded over the winter:

16

Patrick Wisdom

3B, Chicago Cubs

The Chicago Cubs should have traded Patrick Wisdom over the winter.

Patrick Wisdom was a great story in 2021. He was a rookie that made it later in his career. He was also an impact player that increased his team’s chance to win on a nightly basis. He also broke Kris Bryant’s record for most home runs by a rookie which was really cool to see for him.

The big problem was that he wasn’t your traditional rookie. He was pushing 30 years old which means that he took all this time to become an MLB regular with the Cubs. There is usually a reason for that. You don’t get much better once you are on the wrong side of 30.

For Wisdom, he is off to a decent start here in 2022 which can’t be said for a lot of his teammates. However, this team is going nowhere. His value was never higher than it was over this last offseason and they should have traded him then. It is not too late to consider it as they might be able to get something good for him.

Are the Chicago Bears truly sold on Justin Fields?Brandon Hinrichson May 7, 2022 at 1:00 pm

Often times, the simplest pleasures in life as a Chicago Bears fan come from listening to what the entire fanbase and players themselves wants to hear. It’s the offseason after all. With an entirely new regime in place, how can it not appear as if everything is all “fine and dandy” when it comes to discussing Justin Fields in particular.

The Chicago Bears organization has been saying all the right things during media availability and press conferences, regarding their affinity towards quarterback Justin Fields. Their admiration for him is unwavering, and rightfully so, given he’s expected to improve leaps and bounds with a new coaching staff in place, helping guide his development.

Actions typically speak louder than words though, and to date, the new regime hasn’t done their part in surrounding their young quarterback with a ton of help on offense. If anything, they’ve only made their choice of words regarding their public support of Fields feel even more muddied to some onlookers.

New Chicago Bears General Manager Ryan Poles has made it a point to both the fans and media that the organization has ultimate faith in second-year quarterback Justin Fields. In Friday morning media interviews with ESPN 1000, Poles said of his new QB:

Ryan Poles on @ESPN1000 on Justin Fields: “We’re all in on Justin. I believe in Justin. Our coaches believe in Justin.
Like I said from the beginning, we’re going to set him up to succeed.”

— Courtney Cronin (@CourtneyRCronin) May 6, 2022

Are the Chicago Bears really setting Justin Fields up for success?

There is no doubt head coach, Matt Eberflus, his coaching staff, and the front office firmly believes in Justin Field’s talent, otherwise they wouldn’t have gladly signed up to take over the mantle this offseason from Ryan Pace and Matt Nagy’s dismissals. Anyone who has watched Fields take snaps with the Bears last season or even during his time in college at Ohio State knows that he is a special talent at the position. Very few quarterbacks in today’s NFL possess his combination of throwing and running ability.

It’s one thing to have all the ability in the world though, but in order to be a successful franchise quarterback, you need to also master the art of playing the position. Going through progressions quickly, knowing when to get rid of the ball, being able to accurately read defensive coverages both pre-and post snap. The list goes on and on. Unfortunately, it often takes years for young quarterbacks to get accustomed to the mental aspect of playing the position, and even that isn’t enough to guarantee long-term success.

Ultimately, the quickest way a young promising quarterback like Fields becomes the franchise quarterback that Bears fans have been salivating for is by surrounding him with offensive talent.

To be fair, the new regime didn’t have a first round pick in this years draft, where they could have used it to possibly select a dynamic playmaker to help make life a bit easier for Fields. But the Bears did have two second-round picks at their disposal, and used them both to draft defensive players instead. Again, isn’t the number one priority supposed to be helping speed up Fields’ development as a passer?

Losing a dynamic player in WR Allen Robinson this offseason only hurts Fields. They replaced his production with former Kansas City Chiefs WR Byron Pringle, who is more of a rotational player at best and a 3th round WR Velus Jones Jr., who has plenty of speed and talent, but might have a steep learning curve before he can be relied upon to contribute regularly.

Furthermore, the front office didn’t even address their lingering offensive line woes until the 5th round of the draft, when plenty of talented linemen were available in the earlier rounds. The front office played it very conservatively this offseason, ultimately decided to trade away/release prominent players like Khalil Mack, Eddie Goldman, Tarik Cohen, Danny Trevathan, while signing largely backup players to take up little to no cap space in the immediate future.

The Bears will have so much money to spend next offseason, all of which can go towards helping Fields out, but what if the team struggles mightily this upcoming season? It’s very possible, given the lack of supporting cast around Fields. You can make a strong argument that last season’s team was better on both sides of the ball than the unit currently constructed.

If Fields doesn’t make a big jump in Year 2, who will get the blame? Most likely, it’ll fall on Fields, especially if the same issues that plagued him in his rookie season: holding on to the ball too long, while taking unnecessary sacks and making poor decisions all continue to manifest.

All it takes is another poor season to mess with a young quarterback’s confidence. If the Bears can’t protect Fields, and if he has even fewer reliable targets to throw to, how is Fields going to overcome all that? Very few quarterbacks can overcome a bad supporting cast to salvage a season.

This new regime didn’t draft Fields. They love his talent, and want him to succeed, but their future isn’t necessarily tied to him if things go south in a hurry.

Armed with potentially a very high first-round pick in 2023, it wouldn’t be surprising if the front office took a flyer on a new highly-coveted quarterback if the Bears and Fields struggle mightily this upcoming season.

3 Chicago Bears undrafted free agents that could play Opening DayVincent Pariseon May 7, 2022 at 12:00 pm

Chicago Bears (Gary A. Vasquez-USA TODAY Sports)

The 2022 NFL Draft is done now and teams are starting to get ready for what will be an extremely fun 2022 season. There are low expectations for the Chicago Bears but they believe they are building towards something great in the future.

They made 11 very interesting draft picks this year and all of them are going to bring something different to camp as they try to make it to the NFL. Not only do these guys want to make it to the NFL, but they also want to become impact players at the NFL level.

The Bears also signed some undrafted free agents to help them. They are hoping that a few of them can help them in their quest to become a winning team. You never know who can become a really good player in the league. These three might be able to make the Opening Day roster:

11

Chase Allen

TE, Cyclones

Chase Allen is someone who might be able to play with the Chicago Bears.

The Chicago Bears haven’t had a dominant tight end force in a long time. They had Jimmy Graham past his prime in recent years and they even drafted Cole Kmet in the second round of the 2020 NFL Draft. We don’t know what Kmet’s ceiling is so they are still trying to figure that out.

Once the draft was over, Chase Allen’s name was still out there. He signed with the Chicago Bears as a tight end out of Iowa State University. He is someone that might be good enough to play in the NFL as a backup. If Justin Fields ever finds his game and becomes a star, the more tight end options he has, the better off he will be. Hopefully, Chase Allen pays off.

“Graham Nash Live”: Songs from fifty years ago are still relevant today

“Graham Nash Live”: Songs from fifty years ago are still relevant today

Fifty years ago, Graham Nash was writing songs about relationships, politics and wars. Those songs that were so relevant to our lives in the early 1970s haven’t lost their relevance in the early 2020s. From Joni, Nixon and Vietnam to his new wife, Trump and Ukraine, only the names have changed.

Yesterday, Nash released his latest album, “Graham Nash Live.” It’s live versions of “Songs for Beginners” and “Wild Tales”, his first two solo albums.

It’s amazing that someone who turned eighty…that’s right…80…in February is still on the road. Nash has been touring this year after sitting out the last couple of years due to the pandemic. He’s been playing small venues, such as Space, in Chicago suburban Evanston, which has a capacity of only two hundred fifty seats. It’s a long way from the olden days when he was playing to packed stadiums as part of Crosby, Stills and Nash. But, smaller actually makes it better.

IF what you hear on the album is what you’ll see on this tour, it’s well worth the money you’ll spend to see the concert. Yes, Nash’s voice isn’t quite as strong as it was in his peak, that’s to be expected at age eighty, but it’s still more than strong enough to carry the album.

The songs are still great. They’ll bring you back to a time that was just as volatile as now. “Graham Nash Live” is well worth your time and money.

My Dog Is Lost – Now What Do I Do?

My Dog Is Lost – Now What Do I Do?

It was a rainy Friday afternoon and due to a work commitment, I couldn’t take the dogs out for a walk earlier in the day. By the time I got home, they were raring to go out – even if only for a ride on a wet, cold day.

SYDNEY has been with me since she was a baby less than 18 inches in length. SYD is now 8 years old and weighs about 80 pounds.

SAGE is a dog I rescued from the West Suburban Humane Society, a wonderful organization that is celebrating 50 years of taking care of dogs, cats, puppies, and kitties looking for a FOREVER HOME.

As we exited my car in the parking lot of Patriot’s Park, both dogs jumped from their seats to take a walk, rain or no rain. SAGE’s leash literally snapped and I went after her but I still wanted to keep an eye on SYD who I was sure would just wait by the car till I caught up with SAGE. In the time it took for me to look back at SYD and turn, SAGE was gone. I last saw her heading east but still in the park and far from the pond that sits in the middle of the park.

But then, it was as if she vanished.

I lost my dog.

Now, what do I do?

First, I got SYD into the car and we took off in the car heading east. We covered numerous blocks when I realized I needed to reassess my approach to the mysterious disappearance of my SAGE. I pulled to the side, googled to double-check that the Saint of lost causes is St. Anthony – and said a prayer. I then called the local police, described the dog, and left a number. I then used my smartphone to put SAGE’s photo along with her missing status with a plea for help on nine Facebook pages in my village and Nextdoor.com.

SYD and I then drove to my home, just on the chance that SAGE might return only to find she wasn’t there. We headed back to the park with the hope that SAGE might return to the parking lot. That’s when my phone beeped with a notification from Nextdoor.com that SAGE had been found by the Heininger family. Jackie who sent me a message noted that her son Patrick had the pup and provided me with his cell number.

It was pure RELIEF when Patrick informed me that he was at Fairmount and 55th rounding the corner with SAGE. I thought he was in a car. Instead, he was walking with SAGE on a leash accompanied by a young girl who looked like a sibling. Patrick told me that he had seen SAGE in the middle of 55th – scared and anxious due to the traffic. Patrick literally saved SAGE – brought her home and showed her off to the family convinced that since she was dressed in a brown coat, had tags, and on a leash, albeit one that was ripped – the cute Scottish Schnauzer was probably from a good home.

To the Heininger Family, I say, THANK YOU for your kindness in coming to SAGE’s aid, caring for her, and then getting her back to me. It was clear to me that SAGE had won the hearts of Jackie, Patrick, and the young lady who walked in the rain to deliver to me a sweet, sweet dog who literally follows me everywhere – but for some reason today decided to go on an adventure.

To St. Anthony, I also thank you – you never fail.

And to the good people of Downers Grove, thanks for your concern and your good wishes that a lost little lamb has been found.

Mavs fined $25K by NBA for leaving bench in G2on May 7, 2022 at 1:45 am

NEW YORK — – The Dallas Mavericks were fined $25,000 by the NBA on Friday for players and coaches straying too far onto the court from the bench in a Game 2 loss to Phoenix in the Western Conference semifinals.

Coach Jason Kidd criticized the decision before Game 3 in Dallas, saying the league is focusing on the wrong things. He said players cheering their teammates should be celebrated rather than punished.

The NBA said the violations occurred during live action in the Suns’ 129-109 victory on Wednesday. The win gave Phoenix a 2-0 lead in the series.

Fight hordes, find the orbs, and get rewards! In Elden Pixels Cathedral

Fight hordes, find the orbs, and get rewards! In Elden Pixels Cathedral

Preview in new tab

What would you do if you were a nondescript knight (who doesn’t like to talk) who woke up with no memory in a random castle filled with monsters? Get The heck out that’s what! That’s exactly what the main character in Elden Pixels and Decemberborn Interactive’s Cathedral tries to do!

Cathedral is a Metroidvania side scroller where you play a normal old knight who loses his memory and is now trying to figure out how he ended up where he ended up. Fortunately he’s not alone in his quest, as he meets some helpful town people who try to help him figure out what’s going on. You even team up with an adorable and helpful spirit named Soul who also doesn’t know why he’s here, other than to loot the cathedral of all it’s awesome stuff.

Gameplay is pretty easy to pick up and play, and the game gives you quick tutorials to help you figure out the new moves the knight and his spirit helper can do. There are several different locations you explore, not just a giant cathedral. You also explore graveyards, sewers, forests, and other places. It’s also fairly linear as sections you are not ready for are blocked in some way – though you still will be backtracking a lot when you get new items. Lucky for you there is a handy map that you make as you walk, you can also find map pieces in the dungeons to show where important things are.

There are tons of things to buy and find as you explore Cathedral, and no lack of treasure. You can also buy and find upgrades to your armor weapons and health as well as buy upgrades and helpful items in the town shop. When you die you lose 10% of whatever you found which sucks, however you could go to the town store and put money into the bank to save it. You can only save so much in the bank but you can also buy bank upgrades to save more.

Cathedral starts out easy and gets harder as it goes (darn you flying skeleton heads!) which is good for people who like to have a challenge. You also pretty much have unlimited lives, you just lose money every time you die. One cool thing is every time you die a little icon is put onto the map to remind you where it was in case you need to go back there. There are also checkpoints all around the game but only one checkpoint could be activated at a time and when you die you end up right back at that checkpoint so be careful and make sure you activate ones that are close to you at all times!

I must say I loved Elden Pixel’s Cathedral. It was challenging but not too much, lots of upgrades, lots of different places to explore, and Soul is so cute! I loved the old pixel feel and the classic 8-bit music the game gives as well. I give it 5 outta 5 baby dragons!

Cathedral is available on Steam, GOG, Switch, and now PS4 for $14.99. For more information check out their website https://decemberborn.com. Good luck out there!

Red Sox put SP Hill, OF Hernandez on COVID liston May 7, 2022 at 12:18 am

The Boston Red Sox on Friday placed left-handed pitcher Rich Hill and infielder/outfielder Kike Hernandez on the COVID-19-Related Injured List.

Boston recalled outfielder Jarren Duran from Triple-A Worcester with Hernandez’s roster spot, and selected right-handed pitcher John Schreiber to the active major league roster from Worcester for Hill’s.

Hill, 42, allowed one hit over five scoreless innings Thursday against the Los Angeles Angels, his third consecutive scoreless start.

Hernandez, 30, has started 24 of Boston’s 26 games this season in center field. Of his 18 hits, nine went for extra bases, and he has eight RBIs in his last 12 games.
