Public Affairs with Jeff Berkowitz
Watch in Chicago, Cable or on the Web: Berkowitz w/Ex-Cop and 560 AM Radio personality John Anthony on newsy, police involved deaths of “Six blacks.” Systemic Racism, unfortunate mis-judgments or self-defense?
John Anthony: America’s not a racist country. We have racists in our country…There’s no way a racist country elects a black person as President of these United States- twice.
*****
Jeff Berkowitz: So, George Floyd is not dangerous [at that point]. He’s on the ground and he’s hand-cuffed. Leave the guy alone. Go out and smoke a cigarette, have a donut!
John Anthony: Really?
Berkowitz: What’s he gonna do? Jump up and start slugging you with his handcuffs on?
Anthony” He has a violent history…You don’t know this as a cop when you are responding to…
Berkowitz: He’s on the ground. He’s handcuffed.
Anthony: Handcuffs mean nothing…
*****************
Show host Berkowitz takes a fresh look with former police officer and 560 AM Radio-The Answer (“Black and Right”) personality John Anthony on six well-publicized, police involved deaths of blacks.
The “Public Affairs,” TV show airs tonight and tomorrow night in Chicago on Cable Ch. 21 (CAN TV). Tonight’s show airs at 8:30 pm and midnight. Tomorrow night it’s 9:02 pm.
Berkowitz and Anthony focus on the facts surrounding these incidents, as we know them, and the facts are all too often ignored by the mainstream media and protestors at rallies.
The incidents discussed involve Laquan McDonald, Tamar Rice, George Floyd, Rashard Brooks, Breonna Taylor and Michael Brown.
One by one and collectively, Berkowitz and Anthony debate and discuss whether these are examples of systemic racism or of unfortunate, occasional racist acts. Or, were the police actions appropriate or mis-judgments in the heat of the moment having little to do with race.
What are the larger implications of these cases for society? Can we generalize as to their meaning? Symbolism or substance?
Also discussed is the BLM organization- their motives and apparent guiding principles, or lack thereof, so to speak.
Finally, Berkowitz and Anthony discuss briefly the Cook County State’s Attorney race between incumbent Democrat Kim Foxx and her Republican challenger Pat O’Brien.
