Looking for the Good
Time is flying by
While I was out for my walk today, I realized that autumn has clearly arrived. I knew it was coming, but this past week has really brought some changes. The evening air felt cool, and the yearly transformation of the leaves has truly begun. The last time that I looked, it was March. I am not sure where spring and summer have gone; I am not even sure how the year 2020 is almost over. The older I get, the quicker time seems to fly by; however, the impact of the pandemic has seemed to speed it up even more for me. It has been a rough week with much sad news, as well as difficult situations for others that I know. As each month brings losses and trials, opportunities and joys are also evident. I place much value on education and have wanted to attain my Master’s degree for many, many years. I was accepted into National Louis University’s Master’s of Psychology program and began this September. It is a lot of work as I also work full time; however, I feel much joy and excitement. One thing that I know is that soon I will be looking back at this period of time as just a small moment in my life. That is also what I tell myself when I struggle to stay social distancing and to be safe during this pandemic. When my daughter’s were young, each night at dinner, we would ask, “What was the best part of your day?” Those memories and that same reminder to focus on the good each day is what keeps me putting one foot in front of another. Time goes by quickly, and so does life. Today’s joys are what I am choosing to focus on while never denying those feelings of loss and sadness as well.

Susan Schulhof
While it is easy to focus on the negative aspects of life, I choose to continue looking for the good in people and in the world around me, and I want to share why they do what they do. I am the proud mother of three adult daughters and live in the Chicago area. I have worked in the Early Childhood Education field since 2001, and I write books when the inspiration comes.
