This White Sox pitcher can be an all time Chicago athleteVincent Pariseon May 23, 2022 at 6:31 pm

The Chicago Cubs just celebrated Fergie Jenkins this weekend at Wrigley Field. He is one of the greatest pitchers in Chicago baseball history. Now, the Chicago White Sox have a guy hoping to have a similar impact on the city in terms of baseball.

Michael Kopech made another start on Sunday night. It was the second game of a doubleheader and the White Sox were looking to sweep it and take a big series with the New York Yankees. Kopech got the job done against the MLB team with the best record and best offense.

Kopech flirted with a perfect game as he had it going in the sixth inning. He ended up going 7.0 with only one hit, two walks, and no runs against. He struck out six Yankee batters as well. It was as dominant of a performance as you will see from a pitcher against a team like that.

Kopech’s ERA is now down to 1.29 which is the second-best mark in Major League Baseball. The only one who is ranked higher than him is Justin Verlander who has won everything there is to win and will be a first-ballot Hall of Famer.

Michael Kopech has the potential to be an all-time great White Sox player.

He is so special because of his ability to confuse hitters. He strikes people out or induces weak contact because he combines extremely hard fastballs (that move) with very intimidating breaking junk. That was on full display against the Yankees.

It is one thing when you dominate a mediocre or bad team. All of the best pitchers in the world can do that. However, only a few can shut down a lineup like the New York Yankees on a consistent basis.

This was Michael’s second straight start against the Yankees and was dominant in both (outside of one inning in the first round). The lineups are honestly only going to ease up from that beast as the season goes along. The White Sox are done with the Yankees until (potentially) the playoffs.

Kopech has the potential to be the ace of this staff. As good as Lance Lynn, Lucas Giolito, and Dylan Cease have been in recent years/starts, Kopech has the best stuff of them all. He just needs to continue having outings like this (longevity) for people to recognize him as the ace.

When it is time for him to get paid, he could be one of the most lucrative pitchers in the game. He has that good of stuff. It is up to him to continue using it to his advantage the way that he has so far this season. He could end up being one of the greatest Chicago athletes ever.
