It hasn’t been perfect, but the Bears have certainly been more interesting offensively than they’d been in a while. Quarterback Nick Foles went into the half with a 112.5 passer rating.

The Bears went into halftime leading the Saints 13-10 after the offense finally broke out with some big plays.

They caught a break when Saints kicker Will Lutz doinked a 27-yard field goal off the right upright and responded with arguably of their most impressive drive of the season. Nick Foles hit Darnell Mooney for 50 yards on a ball deep down the middle, then two plays later found Allen Robinson for a 24-yard touchdown and a 10-3 lead.

Defensively, the Bears have contained the Saints offense despite struggling to keep tabs on running back Alvin Kamara.

Kamara put up 121 yards from scrimmage in the first half, including a short pass that he took 47 yards at the end of the first quarter to put the Saints on the edge of scoring range before Lutz’ miss.

Foles finished the half 9 of 14 for 111 yards and a 112.5 passer rating.

The Saints snuck in a touchdown with :03 left in the half with a 68-yard drive in 1:36, capped by Drew Brees’ 16-yard touchdown pass to tight end Jared Cook.

It was an eventful first half for the Bears beyond that.

Perhaps inspired by the Saints’ use of wildcat quarterback Taysom Hill, Bears coach Matt Nagy debuted former starting quarterback Mitch Trubisky in that role late in the first quarter. Trubisky picked up three yards on first-and-10 from the Saints’ 35.

He did so behind an offensive line that took another big hit. Already missing left guard James Daniels (season-ending pectoral injury) and center Cody Whitehair (calf), the Bears lost right tackle Bobby Massie to a left knee injury in the first quarter. He was replaced by Jason Spriggs.

Spriggs then went down with an injury late in the second quarter. The Bears shifted left guard Rashaad Coward to his spot and sent in Alex Bars at left guard.

The Bears will get the ball to begin the second half.

The fire was reported about 4 a.m. at an apartment complex in the 800 block of West Bradley Avenue.

A fire broke out early Sunday an apartment complex in Lake View, displacing at least 40 people.

Firefighters were called at 4 a.m. to the blaze at a three-story apartment building in the 800 block of West Bradley Avenue, according to Chicago Fire Dept. Deputy District Chief Curtis Hudson.

The fire — which was extinguished in a half hour — was limited to the second and third floors, and destroyed at least two apartments, Hudson said. The building, however, was not a total loss, he said.

Forty people were displaced, and no injuries were reported, Chicago police said in a media notification.

Several of the displaced people sought refuge in the lobby of a nearby bank, Hudson said.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.

The fire was reported about 4 a.m. Sunday at an apartment complex in the 800 block of West Bradley Avenue, according to preliminary information from Chicago police.

Forty people were displaced, and no injuries were reported, police said.

Could the Chicago Bears benefit from injuries to the offensive line?

The Chicago Bears head into their matchup this afternoon with the New Orleans Saints as a pretty banged-up unit. They did, however, get some good news as it appears Allen Robinson, Khalil Mack, Eddie Jackson, and Cordarrelle Patterson will all play despite being nicked up.

However, one area where they did not get good news is on the offensive line. Cody Whitehair, whose injury was not believed to be serious or long term, will nevertheless keep him out of this week’s game.

That is a scary proposition, especially considering how bad the offensive line has performed up to this point. They are already without starting guard James Daniels who was lost for the season and are starting converted defensive lineman Rashaad Coward in his place.

Now, undrafted free agent Sam Mustipher, the former University of Notre Dame product will take over at center. It may say something about the poor state of the offensive line that Bears fans are clamoring to see un undrafted free agent on the line, but it certainly says a lot about how bad of a job Ryan Pace has done addressing the position.

In any event, is it possible this move may be good for the Bears in the long run? Let’s say Mustipher plays well today at the center position and proves he is more than capable in that role. While it may be a longshot, if he’s able to do so, it could give the coaching staff confidence to leave him in the spot once Whitehair returns. This would allow them to return Whitehair to his more natural position of guard and would enable them to put Coward back in a reserve role.

Moreover, next season when Daniels is healthy, they will have a solid interior line of Mustipher, Daniels, and Whitehair, which will be essential as upgrades on the edges at both tackle positions will be a must.

So Bears fans will be watching closely today to see if maybe the Bears could “luck into” an improved offensive line. If Mustipher can hold up, it might be the best thing for the Bears in the future.
