What a difference a year makes. Or maybe we should call it two years. Michael Kopech was once one of the Chicago White Sox top prospects. This is not to say he still cannot live up to those expectations seeing he is only 24 years old, but the team has now seen Kopech go from […]

Chicago Blackhawks: Interesting weekend with Carolina HurricanesVincent Pariseon February 22, 2021 at 2:00 pm

The Chicago Blackhawks went into Friday thinking that they had a weekend two-piece with the Carolina Hurricanes. Well, they found out that the game on Saturday was going to be postponed so that the Hurricanes can make up a game against the Tampa Lightning instead. It was a weird little switch but that is what […]

Dale Jenkins’s private-press postpunk finally gets a proper reissueLeor Galilon February 22, 2021 at 12:00 pm

Dale Jenkins’s 1985 oddity was released last week in an expanded version by Spanish label Guerssen and Chicago-based label Got Kinda Lost.

I was already obsessed with private-press records when Sinecure published its lavish 2013 coffee-table book Enjoy the Experience: Homemade Records 1958-1992.…Read More

Fact of the Matter, Ep. 1 | Winter Parking Dibs, Cubs/Sox & Wilbur You, CEO of Youtech.Brian Lendinoon February 22, 2021 at 6:01 am

It’s here. It’s finally here. After a few months of conceptualizing and pre-production, UrbanMatter’s flagship podcast ‘Fact of the Matter w/ Brian Lendino’ is now live. I know what you’re thinking: we’re super late to the podcast game. That’s fine. We know we’re starting the race a little late but we aren’t too concerned. Good content is good content and UrbanMatter has that in spades and this is no different.

So what does it mean? Why should you care? Hell, what even is it?

The Fact of the Matter is this: Brian Lendino dives deep into the roots of Chicago’s business, hospitality, sports, music, and nightlife scenes through a series of interviews and conversations with the people directly responsible for them. We’ll discuss their story, how Chicago has shaped them and their legacy, and what their industry looks like moving forward. Tune in for banter so authentically Chicago you’ll be asking if you can have a shot of Malört with it.

We wanted to create a podcast that incorporated the edgy banter Chicagoans are so glowingly known for with introspective conversation with some of Chicago’s most recognizable people and marry that together in one palatable, entertaining hour of content. I’m the person best fit to do that. I’ll create an environment that’s comfortable for our guests and easy-going on the ears of our listeners, a brand that’s attractive to advertisers, and an experience that’ll keep you wanting to come back for more.

To listen and subscribe to Fact of the Matter w/ Brian Lendino, you can visit our Anchor.fm website for a list of streaming platforms we are on. If you want a direct link to our Spotify page, it can be found right here. Follow or subscribe on whichever platform is best for you, and if possible, a 5-star rating and share goes a long way. You don’t have to listen. I won’t be offended. But pass along to someone who might be.

Episode 1 is packed with an intro about the podcast and background about me, fun banter about all of the fun winter parking dibs brings, and a back and forth about both of Chicago’s baseball teams entering 2021. We finish the episode off with Wilbur You, CEO of Youtech in the Chicagoland area and recent honoree of Forbes ’30 under 30′.

It’s go time and we can’t wait to have you along for the ride. Enjoy!

The next Chicago Bears quarterback may be a familiar face in Teddy Bridgewater, who could be on his way out with the Carolina Panthers. It’s not talked about as much as it should be. Timberwolves fire coach Ryan Saunderson February 22, 2021 at 4:44 am

The Minnesota Timberwolves fired coach Ryan Saunders on Sunday night, hours after the team with the NBA’s worst record this season lost for the eighth time in the last nine games.

A person with knowledge of the situation said that the Timberwolves were finalizing plans to introduce Toronto assistant Chris Finch as the new coach Monday. The person spoke to The Associated Press on condition of anonymity because Finch’s hiring has not been formally completed.

ESPN first reported Saunders’ dismissal and The Athletic first reported Finch’s looming hiring.

Saunders was with the Timberwolves for parts of three seasons, going 43-94. Minnesota has the league’s worst record this season at 7-24 and is already 7 1/2 games out of what would be the final play-in spot for the Western Conference postseason.

“We would like to thank Ryan for his time and commitment to the Timberwolves organization and wish him the best in the future,” Timberwolves President of Basketball Operations Gersson Rosas said. “These are difficult decisions to make, however this change is in the best interest of the organization’s short and long-term goals.”

Saunders — who doesn’t turn 35 until April — is the son of longtime Minnesota coach Flip Saunders, the winningest coach in franchise history. Flip Saunders died in 2015.

Dismissing Saunders is the first coaching change in the league since this season began. There were nine coaches in new jobs entering this season.
