Chicago Bears: Allen Robinson for Sam Darnold trade would be disaster by Ryan Taylor

The Chicago Bears desperately need a quarterback. Some people consider Russell Wilson a top-five quarterback in franchise history already just for saying he’d consider playing there. In all reality, they are a team that hasn’t had a good quarterback in 100 years of existence. It is a joke there and it will continue to be as long as the most important position in the game is weak. They have a pretty good roster outside of that quarterback position so filling it might take them to the next level.

Clearly, Wilson of the sees that as well. He is widely regarded as a top-five quarterback in the NFL right now and rightfully so. You can even make an argument that he is the best in the NFL not named Patrick Mahomes. The Seattle Seahawks and Wilson’s marriage seem to be getting close to the end and the rumor mills are really heating up.

The latest report is that Wilson sees the positives in the Bears and that makes them an appealing team to play for. Apparently, he sees an emerging offensive line, a good solid offensive mind in Matt Nagy, and an intriguing market to play in. If all of those things are true, the Bears need to run through that open door. Some people might disagree with some of those things that Wilson sees in the Bears but you have to trust his judgment at this point.

The ripple effect that this would have on the organization can’t be put into words. For one, they would finally have an elite quarterback. Mitchell Trubisky was a failure of a draft pick, both Nick Foles and Mike Glennon were bad signings by Ryan Pace, and the offense hasn’t been able to score under his leadership. This is a move that could save the job of both Nagy and Pace for a long time, especially if Wilson plays like a top-three quarterback.

Another big thing is that it could change the way Allen Robinson sees things. He is the Bears’ number one offensive weapon who is on an expired contract. The Bears could franchise tag him but that doesn’t guarantee that he will show up. A deal, however, would likely get done if the Bears had Wilson. It would also help the team take advantage of their defense that has been going to waste for three years now.

Wilson’s assessment is interesting. The offensive line was pretty bad early in the year but they did come alive towards the end. If they added Wilson and used pick number 20 in the draft to take a tackle, it could certainly be good in 2021. Matt Nagy is considered a good offensive mind but clearly failed with a bad quarterback. Maybe his genius would come to light if he didn’t have a QB that stinks.

As for the market, we all know how awesome Chicago is. Wilson would thrive in a town like this that needs him off the field just as much as they need him on the field. He would love this city and how much people care about the Bears. This is a no-brainer if the Seahawks are willing.

Mount Carmel president Edward Hughes emailed the school’s faculty and staff on Wednesday night that the campus and all sports are shut down until March 16. Multiple sources confirmed the email was sent last night.

That puts an immediate end to the basketball season and means the Caravan’s football team, the defending Class 7A state champions, will definitely miss Week 1 of the football season and could miss Week 2.

Mount Carmel’s basketball team finishes the season with a 4-4 record. The Caravan lost to DePaul Prep on Wednesday. The football team was scheduled to open the season March 19 at Montini and to travel to Loyola in Week 2 on March 27.

Illinois High School Association rules require 12 practice days (Sundays not included) in order to play a game. That means the Caravan couldn’t play a football game until March 29. It’s possible the school could appeal the rule and receive a waiver to play Week 2, but the Week 1 game is unlikely to happen.

According to Hughes’ email, Mount Carmel was on remote learning last week after a positive COVID-19 test of a student. The school returned to in-person learning this week but then another student tested positive for COVID.

The Big Ten will allow a limited number of fans to attend the men’s and women’s conference basketball tournaments in Indianapolis next week.

Following approval by local health officials, attendance will be limited to 2,500 for the women’s tournament at Bankers Life Fieldhouse and to 8,000 for the men’s tournament at Lucas Oil Stadium.

Each tournament runs five days, with the women starting Tuesday and the men on Wednesday.

Fans will be required to wear facemasks at the venues except for when they are actively consuming food or drink.

Promontory is a mix of music and tasty eats

Located in the Hyde Park neighborhood, Promontory is a new business from the talented crew behind Logan Square’s hip Longman & Eagle. It’s a mix of sprawling rooftop space, live venue, and, well, damn good food. 

Bud Billiken Parade is almost 100 years old

Since 1929, The Bud has united the Black community to kick off the school year with festivities. It’s one of the only spaces where South Siders can openly and emphatically praise their historic roots. The parade is broadcast live with around a million people in attendance. 

Pullman National Monument offers excellent history

Nestled in what’s now the Pullman neighborhood of Chicago, the park tells the story of one of the first planned industrial communities in the United States that housed the employees of the Pullman Car Company. Stroll the park to see some gorgeous Victorian architecture and get to know the history. 

Significant historical figures were born here

The South Side has been home to some of the most significant figures in the history of American politics. A few include: the first Black President, Barack Obama and former first lady Michelle Obama, the first Black female Senator, Carol Moseley Braun, and the first Black presidential candidate to win a primary, Jesse Jackson.

With Covid cases improving in Chicago, Mayor Lightfoot has increased the capacity and extended hours. Now, indoor capacity at restaurants, bars, and events can increase to 50 percent or 50 people within one room or space (whichever is less) and establishments can remain open for on-site liquor service until 1:00 a.m, provided they serve food. With this news, be on the lookout for restaurants updating their hours in the coming months. Here are a few Chicago restaurants that have already extended their hours and are back to offering brunch!

Frasca is a neighborhood Italian influenced restaurant featuring specialty pizzas, hearty pastas, and an extensive selection of wine. 

Brunch is now back Saturday and Sunday from 10 am -3 pm offering unlimited aperol spritz, mimosas, and rose sangria for $25. It’s also open Tuesday through Friday 4pm-9pm and Saturday to Sunday 10 am – 9 pm.

If you’re looking for something different than a traditional brunch and want to take advantage of “Sunday Funday,” then head over to Play! They have a new brunch menu with $30 bottomless mimosas. Starting at 11 am every sunday and offered until 4 pm, you can attend the after party with $20 2 hour wristbands until 1o pm. 

Bar Siena is just one of the restaurants already taking advantage of the extended hours. They are now open until 1 am Thursday through Saturday, and until 11:30 pm Sunday through Wednesday. Chicago Bears: Polarizing Allen Robinson for Sam Darnold trades by Ryan Heckman

Chicago Bulls rookie Patrick Williams was left off the 2021 NBA Rising Stars roster, leaving fans wondering why.

Just months after many wondered who exactly he was, Williams has proven to make a genius out of Vice President Arturas Karnisovas, who drafted him fourth overall in the 2020 NBA Draft.

The first-year forward out of Florida State is just 19 years old, having never started in college, but proving he belongs. Williams is averaging 10.2 points, 4.8 rebounds and 1.2 assists per game while shooting 47 percent from the field.

While doing a little bit of everything, Williams has become one of the better defenders on the Bulls. He’s able to lock down multiple positions. One recent example was just a few days ago when he was switched onto Chris Paul at the top of the key. Williams played him close and tough, and ended up forcing an air ball out of one of the best point guards of all-time.

To go along with his defense and overall hustle, Williams has become a strong three-point shooter, putting it through at a 39 percent clip in his first year as a pro.

So, why wasn’t he chosen to be part of the 2021 NBA Rising Stars Game?

If selected, Williams would be on the U.S.A. side, of course. That team includes the likes of sophomores Zion Williamson, Ja Morant, Michael Porter Jr., Tyler Herro, De’Andre Hunter and Keldon Johnson — all of whom are having better statistical seasons than Williams.

It would be a difficult argument to place Williams above any of those guys.

The rookies making the roster included the obvious locks like LaMelo Ball, Tyrese Halliburton and Anthony Edwards, who are the top three competing for this year’s Rookie of the Year title.

The only other rookie on that side of the game is Golden State Warriors center James Wiseman, whose numbers are very, very close to Williams’.

Wiseman is posting 11.8 points, 5.7 rebounds and 1.1 blocks per game while shooting 40 percent from beyond the arc.

You could argue that Williams has been the better all-around player and I don’t think anyone would call you out on it. But, Wiseman’s season has been just a tad better in terms of box score production. The fact that he’s the more recognizable name, too, makes it easier to put him in the game.

It’s tough to see Williams get snubbed, especially since he’s been such a big part of the Bulls’ turnaround in 2021. But, I’m sure we’re in for many more years of strong play out of Williams. He’ll get the attention he deserves, eventually. For now, he and the Bulls can continue to focus on making this playoff push.

Chicago Bulls: Decoding Patrick Williams’ Rising Stars snub by Ryan Heckman

Chicago Bears Twitter debates whether or not a tag-and-trade of Allen Robinson for Sam Darnold is worth it.

The Bears could seriously use an upgrade at quarterback, and Bears fans already know this. General manager Ryan Pace explained the quarterback situation, vaguely, at his press conference Tuesday afternoon.

“Everything’s on the table regarding the quarterback situation. And honestly, that includes players on our current roster, free agency, trades, the draft. We have a plan in place and now it’s about executing that plan,” said Pace via the Chicago Bears website.

The Bears’ front office could not give away any specifics to maintain a competitive advantage, but there are a lot of options the Bears could seek, including one quarterback from New York.

Sam Darnold, 23, has been tossed in numerous trade possibilities around the league with the idea that the Jets will take a quarterback in the upcoming NFL draft. That being said, the concept of the tag-and-trade including Robinson for Darnold is wildly egregious.

Is Allen Robinson that good?

Yes! Allen Robinson is one of the best wide receivers in the league and a lethal skill player. In the past two seasons with the Bears, he has put up two straight 1,000 yard seasons, averaged 100 catches, and recorded 13 total touchdowns.

It’s important to remember the struggles Robinson had to face along the way. Last season, the Bears had the 23rd ranked offense in the league, quarterback struggles, changes in play-calling, and constant pressure from the league’s best defenders.

Besides all of that, he ranked in the top-ten of the league in targets, catches, and yards. If you think Robinson is going to slow down at some point, you would be wrong.

How bad is Sam Darnold?

Sam Darnold, on the other hand, has shown zero signs of potential outside of his age. Last season, Darnold threw as many touchdowns as Dak Prescott, who fractured his ankle and played just five games.

Darnold has had just one season throwing over 3,000 yards, zero seasons with more than 20 touchdowns, and throws a career 59.8% completion percentage in three seasons.

Yes, of course, Darnold faced obstacles too, much worse than Robinson’s I’ll admit. He had Adam Gase as his coach, a below-average offensive line in the last two seasons, and a defense that never ranked higher than 16th in the NFL. Plus, at the beginning of last season, the leading receiver for the Jets was Braxton Berrios, who I’m positive no one knew until then.

Is it possible Darnold makes a breakout? Yes, he is only 23 and has never had the supporting cast to allow him to be great.

Would the trade between Robinson and Darnold be reasonable? No.

It would take a lot of steps for the Bears to even talk about this trade. On Sirius XM radio, Robinson stated he would be interested in returning to the Bears or going back to his old team, the Jacksonville Jaguars. The Bears are still in the beginning stages of this negotiation.

Furthermore, the Bears, while unlikely, could make the cap space for Robinson by making cuts to the team’s roster. They already started this process by cutting Buster Skrine on Monday.

Even if trade talks transpired, Pace and the front office would realize that Robinson for Darnold is unfair for the Bears. Yes, Robinson’s situation creates an upper hand for buyers, but the deal has to be fair. The Jets have 19 draft picks in the next two NFL drafts, and they might have to hand over a future first-day pick for Robinson to make it even.

Think about the Houston Texans’ current situation. Deshaun Watson, unlike Robinson, has already declared that he will never play for the Texans again. Yet, their front office seems to believe they will be able to keep him. Even then so, teams are already storming up fair value trades that include three first-round picks. Just because Robinson wants to leave, does not mean he’s fair game in the trade market for pennies.
