The White Sox are heating up just in the nick of time

If the Chicago White Sox want to make the postseason, this a big week ahead for them

The Chicago White Sox are finally stringing wins together at just the right time. As of September 19th the White Sox find themselves on the outside of the playoff picture but within striking distance. The White Sox have a very legitimate chance to win the AL central and sneak into the playoffs, they are just three and a half games back of the 1st place Cleveland Guardians.

How the White Sox are doing it

In their last 10 games the Sox are 7-3 and they have won 5 out of their last 6 series. One of those series wins being against the Minnesota Twins whom are right on the heels of the Sox in the central. The White Sox also recently took a three game set from the Mariners on the road which was huge being that the Mariners hold the 1st wild card spot.

The White Sox also flexed their muscles in a makeup game against the Guardians swatting five homers showing them they mean business. Everything seems to be clicking at just the right time for the Sox. The stars are also shining bright on the southside. This little run the White Sox have put together has been fueled by performance from their stars. Dylan Cease, AL Cy Young candidate, practically no hit the Twins by taking a no hit bid into the 9th.

Eloy Jimenez has been electric as well. In the past 15 games Jimenez is hitting .357 with 6 bombs and an absurd .750 slugging percentage. The White Sox will continue to need all hands on deck as the season comes to a close and postseason tickets are being punched. Acting interim manager Miguel Cairo Echoed this message to the team after a game at home,

Are you in or are you out? If you’re out, let me know. If you’re in, let’s go for it.

The Road ahead

The Sox are in an intriguing position. They sit just three and a half games back of the Cleveland Guardians whom the White Sox play next kicking off a three game set at home on Tuesday night. This is the biggest and most important series of the year for the Sox and it is vital that they find a win to win this series at all costs. If the White Sox manage to take this series from the Guardians the road ahead is not much easier. After Cleveland the White Sox finish off their season series with the Tigers with a three game set then they play the Twins six more times and the Padres for three. If the White Sox aren’t careful they can find themselves at the end of the season sitting in third place on the outside looking in. However, the Sox have been heating up just at the right time, the offense is exploding and the pitching has been lights out, if they keep this up the Sox will clinch a postseason birth for the third season in a row, a feat the franchise has never accomplished.

NBArank is back! See which stars barely missed the top 25on September 20, 2022 at 12:53 pm

NBArank is back for its 12th season counting down the best players in the league.

Where are MVP candidates such as Giannis Antetokounmpo, Luka Doncic, Joel Embiid and Nikola Jokic? What about rookies and young stars ready to take the leap into the upper tier of NBA players?

Where is LeBron James, who is entering his 20th season?

To get the final NBArank prediction, we asked our expert panel to vote on pairs of players: LeBron vs. Kevin Durant, Stephen Curry vs. Ja Morant, Luka vs. Jayson Tatum … and the list goes on.

We asked, “Which player will be better in 2022-23?” Voters had to predict what they expected from each player during the season.

Let’s kick things off with our rankings of players Nos. 100-26.

Note: ESPN’s NBArank panel, composed of over 200 reporters, editors, producers and analysts, were asked to rank players based on their predicted contributions — quality and quantity — for the 2022-23 season only.

2021 NBArank: NR

Why he could exceed his ranking in 2022-23: Although the Celtics reached the 2022 NBA Finals, Boston never quite looked the same after Williams injured his knee late in the regular season. If he can be healthy for the entire season, Williams will be a leading candidate for Defensive Player of the Year and could skyrocket up these rankings.

Tink finds her sweet spot again with Pillow Talk

Singer, rapper, and songwriter Tink broke out of Chicago’s hip-hop scene about a decade ago, becoming one of the constellation of new stars lighting up the city. Like many local artists who emerged around the time of drill’s first wave in 2012, she signed to a big label—in 2014 she closed a deal with Mosley Music Group (run by superproducer Timbaland) and Epic Records. Tim frequently compared Tink to Aaliyah, which did the Chicagoan few favors. Tink split from MMG in December 2017, after her album debut for the label, Think Tink, had collected dust for two years (it still hasn’t been released), and since then she’s frequently voiced her frustration with such comparisons. “I caught a lot of backlash . . . with him comparing me to her and telling me I’m the next Aaliyah,” Tink said on WWPR’s The Breakfast Club last month. “You can’t play with legends like that.” But Tink’s fortunes have improved lately, thanks in part to producer and Chicago native Hitmaka—she’s developed a working relationship with him, and they’ve made the kind of music that gets you invited on The Breakfast Club. They collaborated on her 2021 album, Heat of the Moment, as well as on her new Pillow Talk (Winter’s Diary/Empire). The new record makes plain that Tink has fun with Hitmaka, because as she explores romantic despair and ecstasy across its 16 sumptuous and occasionally salacious R&B songs, she never once sounds checked out or tired. Tink has been a professional musician for long enough that she can land just about any idea—her lyrics on “Goofy” are comically raunchy (“This dick got me goofy / Halfway past stupid”), but her sophisticated charisma makes even the most audacious lines go down smoothly.

Tink’s Pillow Talk is available through the artist’s website.

36 Fun Things To Do This Fall

Vamp it Up at the Music Box

September 20, 2022, 6:00 am

Before Bela Lugosi, before Christopher Lee, before Frank Langella, Gary Oldman, Willem Dafoe, and legions of other actors doing their menacing best — before them all came cinema’s foundational bloodsucking ghoul portrayed by the aptly named Max Schreck (his surname means “fright” auf Deutsch) in Nosferatu. Now celebrating its 100th anniversary, the vampire classic was long ago elevated to masterpiece status by film critics and scholars. Director F.W. Murnau’s shadow-drenched nightmare is a silent film, of course, but on October 24, one week before Halloween, you can absorb it on the big screen at the Music Box with a live soundtrack. The Invincible Czars, an Austin-based experimental rock band, will perform their haunting score, a mix of electric guitar, drums, organ, violin, glockenspiel, and more. musicboxtheatre.‌com

Bears HC Matt Eberflus unleashed his thoughts on sorry passing attack

Matt Eberflus was not satisfied with the Bears’ offense in Week 2

Passing attempts were harder to find on the Chicago Bears Sunday Night Football telecast than a can of baby formula at your local grocery store. Quarterback Justin Fields finished the game with 11 passing attempts that resulted in 70 yards. Fields wasn’t targeting players analysts assumed would be a significant part of the Bears’ passing scheme. Bears head coach Matt Eberflus seemed frustrated on the sideline with the play on the field.

Wide receiver Darnell Mooney had one reception for -4 yards. That brings Mooney’s total this season to 4 receiving yards. Tight end Cole Kmet had nothing but a drop against the Packers. Kmet has yet to catch a pass this season.

The Bears’ passing game was also inept in Week 1 against the San Francisco 49ers. The excuse made after the game was the rainy conditions. The Bears didn’t try passing much against the Packers. The Bears relied on the run. That game plan was solid enough to score 10 points in total. Three points came in the second half as the Bears tried to come back from being down 24-7 at halftime.

Eberflus addressed the offensive shortcomings in Monday’s press conference

Per Adam Hoge with CHGO Sports, Matt Eberflus said he trusts Fields to the ball more than 11 times in an NFL football game. Eberflus said he understands the passing game is struggling through the first two weeks and that the Bears aren’t doing a good job scheming to get playmakers the football.

Noted Padres fan @patrickfinley, wearing a Padres hat today, asks Matt Eberflus if he trusts Justin Fields to throw the ball more:
“Oh yeah, we trust him for sure.”

Matt Eberflus acknowledges the passing game struggles and says they are looking at it: “It is a concern. We want to get better there. We want to improve.”
On getting Darnell Mooney involved: “We need to highlight our skill. We know that.”

Eberflus tried to explain the Bears’ 11 passing attacks as a byproduct of a successful running attack that gained 23 fewer rushing yards than the Packers.

Matt Eberflus maintains that he and the Bears’ staff have confidence in Justin FIelds to throw the ball. The 11 pass attempts were just a product of the success of the Bears’ run game.

Eberflus then articulated that he understood, following the Bears scoring 10 points after passing the ball 11 times, that the team needs to find a better balance of run and pass.

Matt Eberflus said he trusts Justin Fields to throw more than 11 times. Stresses the need for balance between run/pass.

#Bears HC Matt Eberflus on lack of production in passing attack after two games: “It is a concern. We want to get better there.”

Matt Eberflus should know this by Week 2

Matt Eberflus and the Bears coaching staff have been around the league enough to know they can’t run an offense this way. The admissions don’t mean anything unless the Bears change their play on the field from the first two weeks.

The 49ers game was a prelude to the offense the Bears thought would have a winning formula this season. Fields isn’t learning how to do anything in this offense but how to relieve an injured starting quarterback in the future by handing the ball off.

The Bears’ offense is finding ways to reach a new low in the passing game. Week 2 against the Packers needs to be this year’s bottom.
