Bears to start QB Peterman after Siemian injuryon November 27, 2022 at 5:24 pm

The Chicago Bears will start Nathan Peterman at quarterback in Sunday’s game against the New York Jets after Trevor Siemian hurt his oblique in pregame warm-ups.

Siemian had been slated to start after Justin Fields was announced among the Bears’ inactives because of a separated left shoulder.

Peterman was elevated from the practice squad Saturday to serve as Siemian’s backup. Now Siemian will back up Peterman.

Bears QB Justin Fields won’t play vs. Jets

EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. — Bears quarterback Justin Fields won’t play Sunday against the Jets after the team listed him as inactive with a left shoulder injury. Trevor Siemian will make his first start as member of the Bears.

Fields warmed up for about 15 minutes with the Bears’ other two quarterbacks before the 10:30 a.m. inactive deadline. He threw passes to receivers and ran between the goal line and 40-yard line and MetLife Stadium. Wearing a hooded sweatshirt, Fields did not appear to be in obvious pain.

Nathan Peterman was promoted from the practice squad Saturday and will be the backup.

Fields separated his left shoulder and suffered ligament damage on a fourth-quarter hit by the Falcons a week ago. He was limited in practice all week and ruled questionable for the Jets game.

Head coach Matt Eberflus offered little detail about his plans for Fields, other than to say that he needed to be cleared by doctors, feel ready to play and get the blessing of the coaching staff. Fields’ participation seemed unlikely all week — he’s the team’s best asset and the 3-8 Bears have already been eliminated from NFC North contention. Were the season to end today, they’d draft third overall.

Siemian, a Northwestern alum, lost all four starts with the Saints last year but won two games in relief. He completed 108 of 188 passes for 1,154 yards, 11 touchdowns and three interceptions last year. Siemian completed his only pass for the Bears earlier this season.

The Bears offense figures to look more conventional — and pass-happy — with Siemian under center.

“You do have to have plays that are for Justin … and then you have to have ones designed for the backup,” Eberflus said Friday. “But it’s not a huge range. Obviously our offense is our offense. There’s certain things that Justin does and we’ve added since the mini-bye. It’ll just be our offense.”

Despite being the NFL’s leading rushing quarterback on an offense that ranks last in the NFL in passes, Fields had amazingly never missed a snap this season because of injury until Sunday. He started only 10 games last year, limited by injuries to his ribs and ankle, and a positive coronavirus test.

The Bears don’t plan on putting Fields on injured reserve, but it they might not be incentivized to rush him back for next week’s rivalry game. They host the Packers before having a bye, followed by the last four games of the regular season.

Cornerback Kyler Gordon, safety Jaquan Brisker and linebacker Sterling Weatherford were all previously ruled out with concussions. Receiver N’Keal Harry and offensive linemen Alex Leatherwood and Ja’Tyre Carter are healthy scratches.

We finally know the status of Chicago Bears QB Justin FieldsVincent Pariseon November 27, 2022 at 2:00 pm

Last week against the Atlanta Falcons, the Chicago Bears blew another lead and lost another game. It isn’t that big of a deal because they are clearly tanking to try and get the best draft pick possible as long as Justin Fields continues to develop.

Fields has clearly done that this season. He looks like someone that could legit be considered as a top-flight quarterback. As of right now, he has all of the tools needed to be given that kind of distinction. That certainly makes it easier to build a team good enough to win a Super Bowl.

Unfortunately, Fields is dealing with a little bit of the injury bug right now. He has probably been hurt for a while right now because their offense does very little to protect him which is never good but now he is really injured.

Once the last game against the Falcons was wrapped up, he exited the game via a cart. It later came out that he had a separated shoulder. It sounded like this was an issue that could cost him a few practices, a game or two, or the rest of the season. He was the definition of day-to-day.

We now know that Justin Fields isn’t going to play against the New York Jets.

Justin Fields, listed as questionable for Sunday due to his separated shoulder, is not expected to play vs. the Jets, per sources. Bears are expected to start QB Trevor Siemian, and the team also promoted Nathan Peterman from the practice squad Saturday to serve as the backup QB.

— Adam Schefter (@AdamSchefter) November 27, 2022

Now, on game day against the New York Jets, we finally know what his status is for the big game. He is going to miss the game after being listed as questionable for the entire week.

Trevor Siemian is going to get the start against the Jets and Nathan Peterman (elevated from the practice squad on Saturday) is going to be the guy backing him up. It isn’t as fun this way but it is completely necessary to protect the kid.

If the Bears were in the middle of a playoff race this would be much more devastating. At the same time, however, there are worse backup quarterbacks to start in a situation like this than Trevor Siemian who might be able to win a big game with a good roster.

The problem is that the Bears don’t have a good roster so don’t count on it from Siemian. This Jets team isn’t also half bad either. It is unfortunate that we don’t get to see Justin Fields vs Zach Wilson just yet either but Wilson wasn’t playing anyway because he was benched.

For the Bears as an organization, the most important thing for them is to protect this kid from harm and keep his development going.

He is much too important to waste in this meaningless game against an AFC opponent. It will also help their draft stock to lose. As mentioned before, keeping him ready to go for the future is the biggest key to this team taking a step soon.

The Chicago Blackhawks have a tough game against an elite teamVincent Pariseon November 27, 2022 at 1:00 pm

It is a National Football League Sunday and the Chicago Bears are going to have a game against the New York Jets. Neither team is likely to have their young exciting quarterback under center so that changes things but it will still be fun. Luckily, the Chicago Blackhawks also still play.

They are going to host the Winnipeg Jets for some Sunday night hockey. That is a tough draw for Chicago as they will face this Jets team when they are 12-6-1. As of right now, they are one of the best teams in the Western Conference.

They are right there with the Colorado Avalanche and Dallas Stars for the lead in the Central Division. Not many thought they would even be a playoff team this year but they certainly have looked like one.

Winnipeg presents a challenge because they have a lot of players that are close to being a point per game to go with some good goaltending. It is going to be a tough game for the Chicago Blackhawks as they try to take them down.

The Chicago Blackhawks are going to have a hard time with the Winnipeg Jets.

The Hawks aren’t feeling very good about themselves lately either which never makes things easy. They haven’t won since November 12th which is a skid of 0-5-1. They have only won two times in the month of November after a hot start to the year. This is truly a bad team.

They have only scored 12 goals over those six games which is obviously not going to get it done. Stopping this Winnipeg offense will surely be hard for them.

It doesn’t get any easier for them after this either with the likes of the Edmonton Oilers, New York Rangers, New York Islanders, and New Jersey Devils following that. All of those teams have their eyes on the Stanley Cup.

This season is not going to be easy for Chicago Blackhawks fans. There is a good chance that they are in a very bad spot by the time the season ends. However, that could lead to a draft lottery win that lands them a potentially generational player. That’s not the worst thing ever.

Every now and again they will win a game which is good so that they still have some respect for themselves but don’t necessarily count on it to happen often enough to be happy. Rebuilding isn’t fun but it could lead to a lot of it.

The Chicago Bears will play a storyline filled game on SundayVincent Pariseon November 27, 2022 at 12:00 pm

The Chicago Bears are set to play in a game against the New York Jets on Sunday. It is a matchup between two teams that are in a little bit of a different spot. The Jets are one of those teams that are having a surprisingly good year while the Bears are still a little bit away.

Coming into this year, we thought that this would be a battle between Justin Fields and Zach Wilson who were both top quarterbacks drafted in the 2021 NFL Draft. Both of them are good but it appears that the former is going to be significantly better but we won’t know for a while.

However, this could end up being a game that neither of them plays. Wilson is mysteriously benched despite being 5-2 as a starter so far this season so we know for a fact that he won’t be in there.

As for Fields, he is day to day with his shoulder problem and we won’t know if he is playing until later in the morning.

The Bears really need him to play if they want any chance of winning but they aren’t in the business of winning this season. It would be smarter for a variety of reasons if he didn’t play.

The Chicago Bears have a tough Sunday matchup against the New York Jets.

This is also a matchup of two teams from some of the top markets in all of sports. New York vs Chicago is always special no matter what sport it is or how high the stakes are.

No matter what happens, we want to see certain Chicago Bears players play well. If Justin Fields isn’t in the lineup, there will still be some key pieces to have our eyes on in the game. If he does play, he will be the main focus of everything that they do.

The Jets have a chance to make the playoffs in the AFC Wild Card but they are going to have to keep putting some wins together.

With a bad team like the Bears on the schedule, you’d think that they play at thier best to try and get an “easier win”. All wins are hard but the Jets should be able to take it against this Chicago Bears team. If Fields doesn’t play, that will be even better for New York.

So we have benching drama, injury speculation, and playoff implications for one side. There are a lot of young players trying to get better in the process as well which makes things interesting. It should be a ton of fun.

High school football: Loyola’s defense dominates Class 8A title game

CHAMPAIGN – It was not expected by anyone in the crowd, on the field or on the sidelines and it was over in an instant. Loyola’s first offensive play was an 80-yard touchdown pass from Jake Stearney to Declan Forde on a flea flicker.

With the Ramblers’ dominant defense, that initial successful burst of daring was all that was necessary to secure a 13-3 win against Lincoln-Way East in the Class 8A state championship game on Saturday at Memorial Stadium.

Stearney and Forde connected again on a 17-yard touchdown late in the third quarter.

Stearney was 14-for-19 passing for 174yards and the two touchdowns. Forde had three catches for 110 yards and senior Spencer Leadbetter had five receptions for 28 yards.

Loyola’s defense, led by lineman Brooks Bahr and defensive back Johnny McGuire, allowed the Griffins (13-1) just 115 yards rushing and 81 yards passing.

It’s the third state championship for the Ramblers (13-1), who won the Class 8A title in 2018 and 2015 and the Class 6A title in 1993.

Loyola’s only loss this season was to Mount Carmel, the Class 7A state champions.

Check back later for more…

Notre Dame couldn’t find a win over USC on Saturday nightVincent Pariseon November 27, 2022 at 4:39 am

The Notre Dame Fighting Irish played one of their biggest rivals on Saturday night in USC. This was a game that had serious playoff implications as USC came in ranked number six. With some other movement in the country, this one was huge.

Unfortunately, the Irish lost the game to USC. They couldn’t find a way to beat them on their own field so they are now 8-4. This snapped a five-game winning streak for the Irish after starting the season 3-3.

Marcus Freeman’s first year as the head coach of Notre Dame didn’t go as planned but this was still a strong season. They had to battle some adversity early but had a pretty strong finish in spite of this loss to USC.

Now, USC is in a good spot when it comes to making it to the College Football Playoff. Out of the five teams ahead of them in last week’s ranking, two of them lost as Ohio State and LSU both had rough games against their respective rivals.

The Notre Dame Fighting Irish came up just short on Saturday night.

As a result of this game, you’d think that USC is going to creep into the College Football Playoff top four along with Georgia, Michigan, and TCU. If this holds through championship week, it is going to be an incredibly fun playoff.

As for Notre Dame, they weren’t able to earn their second signature win of the season. The truth is that they just aren’t as good as USC this year. It is unclear if USC is as good as a team like Georgia but we might soon find out.

Another note from this game is the fact that Caleb Williams made a very strong case for the Heisman Trophy. He was absolutely sensational against the Irish defense and he might take home the best individual trophy because of it.

Notre Dame coming up with 8 regular-season wins is actually really good for starting 0-2 and then being 3-3. They had a chance to come back and win but they weren’t able to hold off the USC offense led by the aforementioned Caleb Williams. Now, we will see how it all shakes up during Bowl season.
