It is an unfortunate thing to swallow but the Chicago Blackhawks need to rebuild. Things have gone downhill ever since Stan Bowman started to make mistake after mistake following the 2015 Stanley Cup Championship. In order to get back on top, they need to revamp their entire roster.

It started on Friday afternoon when they traded Brandon Hagel to the Tampa Bay Lightning in exchange for two young NHL players and two first-round draft picks. To be honest, that is a great start because of the fact that his trade value might never be higher than it is right now.

Tampa Bay wants to win the Stanley Cup for the third year in a row so they feel that adding depth like Hagel will help. It is a lot to give up but this could prove to be a trade that helps both teams out tremendously for what they are trying to accomplish.

Now that Hagel is gone, what is next for Chicago? Well, there are rumors out there that suggest that the Hawks could be hearing calls on Patrick Kane and/or Alex DeBrincat. It has been out there for a while as teams like the Colorado Avalanche and New York Rangers appear to be interested.

Patrick Kane and Alex DeBrincat would be good trade chips for the Blackhawks.

In speaking with a few clubs clear they are watching Patrick Kane situation closely to see if the trade of Hagel changes the equation. If Kane goes expect DeBrincat to go or if DeBrincat goes expect Kane to follow! Things are getting interesting! ?? @NHLNetwork

Brian Lawton is well connected to the National Hockey League. He was a player, agent, and general manager in the league. He hears things from reliable people around the league that don’t make stuff up. Kane and DeBrincat are desired by other NHL teams.

Why wouldn’t those two be saught after? They are two of the 30 best offensive players in the Natinal Hockey League right now. They also each have the rest of this year and all of next year left on their deals so they would be slightly better than a pure rental.

The Hawks would certainly fetch a lot for DeBrincat and Kane. DeBrincat might fetch just a bit more because he is on a bargain of a contract while Kane would need to wave his no move clause and the team would have to be able to afford his cap hit.

Nobody wants to hear it but it would be the right move. At Kane’s age, there is almost no chance that the Hawks are a contender before he is beyond his prime. For DeBrincat, he is going to get a significant pay raise which would be tough for a team that is awful. If a good team is offering an incredible package, the Hawks aught to really think about it.
