Let’s see Ella French’s and her partner’s body cameras
Was the shooting a hate crime?
It’s not morbid curiosity that moves me to ask for the early release of their body cameras–presumably they were wearing them and they were turned on. [Stories here and here.]
The cameras would support early claims that the two officers’ guns were holstered when the shooting began. It would show the reaction and state of mind of the car’s occupants. It would shed light on whether the officers followed procedure when approaching the car. It would clear up any doubts about the reason for the traffic stop.
It would address the wide-spread claim that cops are stopping cars for “driving while black.” It would shut up, for however shortly, the constant complaint that racism explains everything.
It would show the dangerous circumstances that the undermanned police department face every time they attempt to enforce the law. Maybe they should start driving around while trying to look busy and not stop anyone,
It would display how cops are routinely disrespected. Maybe the communities that they are trying to protect could show a little respect.
Haven’t we had enough?
One of the accused was held without bail. We’ll find out later whether the other is.
