Love your neighbor as yourself is a highlight of the New Testament (Matthew 22:39).  It must be important because it also appears in the Old Testament (Leviticus 19:18 & Deuteronomy 6:5).

When it comes to loving our neighbors, we should all be on the same page.  Jesus said that it was the second most important commandment, right after loving God.

As a casual observer and non-believer, it seems to me that people who like to think of themselves as Christians should stick to the New Testament and heed the words of their savior.

They don’t need to concern themselves with all that abomination stuff in the Old Testament and they really don’t need to concern themselves with other people’s personal choices.

So much for this morning’s homily.  Now let’s talk masks.

Apparently, it wasn’t explained very well on Fox that masks don’t protect the people wearing them as much as they protect the people around them.

Their neighbors, whom they love.

You would think that with their audience, Fox would want to explain important stuff in understandable terms.

Apparently, just lying about it is good enough.

COVID-19 is mostly spread by little droplets that come out of our mouths when we breath, speak, cough or laugh.

A good shout can send those droplets 15-20 feet into the air and the person shouting may be spreading the virus even while appearing perfectly healthy.

Your mask will offer you a minimal amount of protection from those droplets, but the main function of the mask is to keep YOUR droplets from spewing out onto others.

Others, like your grandparents, who are in the age group that has suffered about 80% of our 130,000+ COVID-19 deaths.

The mask isn’t for you. It’s for your neighbors, whom you love.

Wearing a mask doesn’t make you look weak, it makes you look like you give a damn.  It makes you look like you are actually walking the walk of one who follows Jesus.

Besides, you can’t really say that a mask makes you look weak or scared when you walk around with an AR-15.
