Is Your Scale Controlling You?

In the past, my scale would determine how my morning started. If my weight was low, I was satisfied. If it was high, I was disappointed. I had to ask myself why I wanted to lose weight. Was it for my health or appearance? If I am eating healthy, exercising, getting my rest, and doing my best to reduce stress, why should I worry about what the scale shows?
What would happen if we focused on our health instead of the scale? Every female will not wear a size six and you do not need to wear a size six to be healthy. What is your blood pressure? (A normal blood pressure is 120/80.) How about your cholesterol? (Cholesterol levels lower than 200 mg/dL is appropriate for adults.) How much do you weigh? People usually know their weight; however, weight is not the only number you should monitor.
Health goes beyond not being sick. Good health is comprised of physical, mental, spiritual and social well-being. Exercising, eating right, getting your rest, reducing stress, and having strong relationships all involve living healthy. In pursuing a healthy lifestyle follow your instincts. Change the things you feel you need to change and improve the things you feel need improvement. Don’t be afraid to seek professional help.
Appreciate the body you have right now. It is okay to say you want to change; however, don’t beat yourself up if the process takes longer than you expected. Be careful of following the latest diet where you lose weight but gain it back after you “finish” the diet. Living a healthy life is a long-term process not a short-term event. The scale is not a health or beauty indicator.

Meet The Blogger
Sheri McIntosh
I have been interested in preventive medicine since my childhood. In the 70s, my aunt would take me with her to meet with a doctor who emphasized preventive medicine. A lot of the things that doctor discussed then has become standard today.
