Ian Book of Notre Dame made his NFL debut on Monday Night FootballVincent Pariseon December 28, 2021 at 12:00 pm

Monday Night Football is always a lot of fun. The National Football League puts two teams in the spotlight once a week to play every Monday night and it is glorious. This week, it was the New Orleans Saints and the Miami Dolphins in a battle of two 7-7 teams trying to make it to the postseason. It also had a bit of Notre Dame flare to it.

Ian Book was the starting quarterback for the New Orleans Saints. They made him a fourth-round pick in 2021 after a great career with the Notre Dame Fighting Irish football team where he was one of the best they’ve ever had.

Of course, before the 2021 season, Saints fans were used to having future Hall of Famer Drew Brees. He retired after the 2020 season so they are looking for his long-term replacement. Jameis Winston is expected to have a chance but he is out long-term with an injury. They also lost both Trevor Siemian and Taysom Hill to COVID-19 so Book was the guy on Monday.

It is a very proud moment for the Irish but this particular game didn’t go as planned for Book and the Saints. There were times where things looked good but the Miami defense was too much on this night.

Book threw 20 passes and completed 12 of them which isn’t a horrid percentage but he threw two interceptions (one went back for a touchdown) and had no touchdown passes. He also ran for six yards on three carries. He is an incredible athlete but he saw first hand what a big NFL linebacker that can fly looks like.

Ian Book made Notre Dame proud with his NFL debut on Monday Night Football.

This shouldn’t be the end for Book. He has shown that he can deal with tough losses and big wins in the past. It is about being steady when you are humbled in the NFL. Book can learn from this and do what he needs to in order to succeed in the NFL.

Those Miami Dolphins became the first team in NFL history to lose seven in a row and win seven in a row in the same season. They can clinch a playoff berth by winning each of their last two games against the Tennessee Titans and New England Patriots.

This was an incredibly fun game to watch for all football fans. Even though he didn’t have the best game, it was really cool for Irish fans to catch Ian Book making his NFL debut. Hopefully, he gets more chances and continues to improve.
