Dolton Mayor Release Official Statement about Recent Hire
My utmost service to this great Village has been to see to the safety and comfort in the home of every Dolton resident, as they go about their daily lives. Please know that I will not make decisions that will jeopardize the values, beliefs, safety, and trust bestowed upon me by the residents of Dolton, whom I serve.
Recently the Village hired an employee who has been the subject of many recent news stories. The decision was made to hire this person because the Village believes in rehabilitation and second chances. The news stories that say this employee’s job includes going into homes are not true. This employee only works on outdoor violations and has been a stellar employee since being hiredI can assure you that the community standards will be maintained and promoted to suit the public interest. We should not forget everyone deserves a second chance in life.Today, like yesterday, many people who have paid their debt to society face significant rejection from societies, communities, employers, and lack the opportunity to integrate back into society, especially in the black and brown communities. Our stereotype needs to stop!
On that note, I will be hosting a job fair this Saturday to help all residents, including ex-offenders, who have redeemed themselves, get back to work. See the Village website for information on the Job Fair.
Thank you,Mayor Tiffany Henyard, Dolton Illinois
