The Chicago Bulls entered Thursday night’s 2020 NBA Draft Lottery hoping to make it higher than recent years.
What an offseason it has already been for the Chicago Bulls. The team overhauled their front office after the league went on hiatus and followed it up by recently firing head coach Jim Boylen.
Next up? The 2020 NBA Draft Lottery.
Entering Thursday night, the Bulls and their fan base were a little on edge, to say the least. For three years running, the Bulls had come away with the no. 7 overall pick in the draft. Last year, they should have had the fourth overall selection, but dropped three spots.
It’s been a few years of disappointments in the lottery. Let’s be real. If the Bulls aren’t competing for the playoffs, most fans would rather see them obtain a top draft pick, and that simply hasn’t happened.
It has been three disappointing seasons full of underwhelming coaching and a plethora of injuries to multiple players, followed by even more disappointing summers as the Bulls haven’t exactly been major players in free agency or the Draft Lottery.
Those days are in the past, though, as the Chicago Bulls came away with the no. 4 overall pick in the 2020 NBA Draft.
The lottery started out by the Boston Celtics snagging pick no. 14 (via the Memphis Grizzlies), which was no surprise. From there on out, things went just about as planned. Once inside the top 10, though, it got interesting.

The Charlotte Hornets were most likely looking at the eighth overall pick, but their fans were excited to see them hop up five spots to no. 3 overall. Meanwhile, the Cleveland Cavaliers went from most likely obtaining a top-3 pick down to no. 5.
The Wizards, Knicks and Pistons also fell from their respective positions.
But, the Bulls rose three positions. They did it.
There was plenty of positive energy after hiring Arturas Karnisovas to be their Vice President, and even more excitement after seeing Marc Eversley come in as their new general manager. These two should be a strong tandem in the front office.
With the no. 4 overall pick, Karnisovas certainly has options. The top three players in the draft, according to most experts, are guard Anthony Edwards, guard LaMelo Ball and big man James Wiseman.
Beyond those three, Karnisovas has a tough decision to make. He could go a variety of routes, whether it’s forward Obi Toppin out of Dayton, forward Deni Advija, forward Onyeka Okongwu, among others.
Could Karnisovas trade the pick, too? We shall see. He has a brighter future ahead for the Bulls than he did going into Thursday night, though. That’s for certain.
