In a shocking development, it seems some of Wilson’s recent comments about the team’s inability to protect him on the field (a reference to his perceived failure of the organization to devote enough resources to the offensive line) and an expressed desire to have more say in personnel decisions, have rubbed the organization the wrong way.

According to Dan Patrick, a source has indicated that the “Seahawks management is not happy with Russell Wilson and his camp for taking this to the media.” That’s understandable and not necessarily a big deal. It’s not uncommon for star players to ruffle their team’s feathers from time to time.

However it’s the next part of the report that is truly eye-opening and worth calling out.

Could Russell Wilson be an option for the Chicago Bears?

According to the same source this potentially could be more than just a disagreement between the two sides. The source indicated, at least indirectly, that the relationship may be in jeopardy. The source stated, “you wonder if they’re going to be able to co-exist . . . the current situation is unsustainable. That’s what I was told.”

Insert big eye emoji because this news warrants it. If you accept that statement at face value, the source is saying that the current relationship between the Seahawks and their star quarterback is not sustainable and absent a change in direction, they may be forced to part ways.

The question now, is, what changes? Do the two sides makeup, or does Wilson become more entrenched in his position, perhaps emboldened by what he has seen from Deshaun Watson’s camp. Perhaps the “player empowerment” era in the NFL is upon us. If so, the Chicago Bears must be all-in on pursuit of Wilson and should not jump too soon at a deal for Wentz.
