After the Chicago Bears‘ second preseason game, the headlines were out and flying early and often. It was one of those games where, if you didn’t watch it from start to finish, you might not have understood all of the intricacies that make up the true storylines.
People wrote plenty of stories about Mitchell Trubisky “carving” up the first team defense, which would make sense to catch attention from those who didn’t necessarily get to see the game. The reality is, the Bears defense didn’t show much of their cards and Trubisky had it pretty easy on him.
But, that’s a story for a different day.
Believe it or not, the final score meant nothing. The 41-15 box score may look rough at first glance, but the Bears had plenty of positives coming out of that game. More than anything, fans are simply now excited to see their team as healthy as possible for Week 1 and deploying more of their playbook on both sides of the ball.
Now, it’s about figuring out which players will take up those final roster spots for the Chicago Bears.
Before the team takes on the Tennessee Titans on Saturday, in their third preseason game, the Bears must make a lot of cuts. By tomorrow, Chicago has to cut their roster down to 80 from 85. The final cut doesn’t happen until August 31st.
For right now, there are some guys who have performed well enough to stick around past this week, and who even deserve strong consideration to make the final roster.
When the final cuts happen, Bears fans might just be surprised who gets released. There are always a couple of surprises, but the young players who end up sticking will have deserved that spot in the end. These three players, in particular, should be sticking around for a while.
