George McCaskey still shows flaws despite Chicago Bears regime changeJordan Campbellon February 1, 2022 at 4:29 pm

Chicago Bears chairman George McCaskey kicked off the introductory press conference on Monday when the Bears officially introduced Ryan Poles as their new general manager and Matt Eberflus as their new head coach.

After seven seasons under former general manager Ryan Pace and four seasons under former head coach, it was clear that McCaskey needed to embark on a regime change for the Bears’ football operations.

While Monday was meant to mark a new era of football for the Bears, McCaskey repeated a similar mistake that he made previously. After the 2020 season, when McCaskey met with reporters along with Pace and Nagy, the Bears chairman refused to address the length of each of their contracts.

McCaskey’s refusal to address the contract status led to instant speculation. Speculation in the sense that the Bears had secretly extended both their general manager and head coach. Pace and Nagy are no longer here but when speaking with reporters on Monday, McCaskey refused to address the contract lengths of Poles and Eberflus.

”We talked about it and talked to Matt and Ryan about what their preference was,” he said. ”And their preference was that it not be disclosed, and we’re honoring that preference.”

In the past — before McCaskey refused to say whether Nagy and Pace were on the same timeline — the Bears didn’t have issues disclosing contract lengths. In the past, they had issued four-year deals with a fifth-year option. Now McCaskey won’t say.

”If the individual wishes to make it public, they’re welcome to,” he said. ”But I don’t think that’s the Bears’ place.”

Chicago Bears chairman George McCaskey once again showed his lack of understanding.

McCaskey is wrong with his insistence that it is not the Bears’ place to disclose the contract lengths of their head coach and general manager. The reason why it is the Bears’ place is that these are the leading members of their football operations.

Knowing the length of contract for both Poles and Eberflus would be an indicator of the direction that the team wants to head in. If Poles and Eberflus received short-term deals, it would be an indicator that the team is planning on contending soon. If the pair received long-term contracts, then it would be an indicator that the team is planning a rebuild of some sort.

Despite the positive reviews from what Poles and Eberflus said during their introductory press conferences, McCaskey once again showed his lack of understanding when being the chairman of an NFL Team. The hope, with Eberflus and Poles now in place, is that McCaskey returns to being a “fan” and lets the football people complete their business with no interference from ownership.

3 Chicago Blackhawks legends are now helping with GM searchVincent Pariseon February 1, 2022 at 3:00 pm

The Chicago Blackhawks currently have a coach and general manager on an interim basis with Derek King and Kyle Davidson respectively. However, each of them will be a candidate but they will still conduct a search for the full-time position.

On Monday, the team announced that they are going to have three special advisors that will assist in finding the new general manager. Those three people are former Blackhawks legends in Marian Hossa, Patrick Sharp, and Eddie Olczyk.

These three will join Mike Forde and his group Sportology who have been assisting since the beginning of their process. It is going to be interesting to see who these people come up with for the right general manager.

Chicago Blackhawks (@NHLBlackhawks) January 31, 2022

The Chicago Blackhawks announced big GM advisory news on Monday night.

The announcement came from Danny Wirtz via social media just about a week after the team put out a note on the state of their searches. It sounds like this team is much more transparent these days than they were in the past. This could be what they need to get back to relevancy.

When you think about the guys who they picked, you get three completely different people. Marian Hossa was the best of the three as a player. He is in the Hall of Fame for being one of the greatest two-way wingers to ever live.

Patrick Sharp and Ed Olczyk were each very good goal scorers in different eras. Sharp played most of his career with Chicago and won three Stanley Cups as a teammate of Hossa. Olczyk played for the Hawks as well and is an Illinois native.

With these three brilliant hockey brains helping lead the way, the Hawks should be able to hire a very good general manager that should be able to bring in the best possible coach. These three know what it takes to win as they are all Stanley Cup champions in their NHL careers.

The bar is not very high after Stan Bowman’s departure. He was very bad at his job, especially towards the end, so there is a bit of work to do in order to get this franchise back to its winning ways. Hopefully, this is a step in the right direction.

Matt Eberflus seems to be the exact opposite of Matt NagyVincent Pariseon February 1, 2022 at 2:00 pm

The Chicago Bears had their introductory press conference for new GM Ryan Poles and new head coach Matt Eberflus. Owner George McCaskey and quarterback Justin Fields also made an appearance to take questions from the media. It was honestly a great showing that should make a lot of Bears fans very excited.

One of the biggest takeaways from the entire day has to be the comments made by Matt Eberflus. He was very candid in his plan as a head coach. The best thing that he said was that even though he is a now-former defensive coordinator, he will let the new person that they hire call defensive plays.

That is a major change from Matt Nagy. Nagy was a former offensive coordinator that wanted to run the offense as if he was still the coordinator. It did not work well at all because he was not good at running the team as a whole in addition to being a bad play-caller.

In addition to this difference in philosophy, Eberflus is a lot better on the microphone. He gives what he wants to give without sounding condescending. That is a breath of fresh air for Bears fans and media alike. Hopefully, that is something that continues.

Matt Eberflus seems to be the exact opposite of Matt Nagy which is great.

All we want from this team is a winning product. If that happens by the time they are in Arlington Heights with a beautiful new stadium, they could be one of the most fun franchises in the National Football League. They could also have an elite quarterback in Justin Fields that makes that even better.

Eberflus seems to know what to do in order to get that to happen. Based on his track record with the Indianapolis Colts, we should be able to expect that from the defense and the special teams. If each of those come true and Luke Getsy does a good job with the offense, we could be talking about a team that continues to compete for the North.

Another thing that Eberflus does that appears to be better than Nagy is have something special with the general manager. We never saw Ryan Pace and Matt Nagy act the way that Eberflus and Ryan Poles did on Monday. These two seem to be on the same page which is awesome.

There are a lot of expectations on Eberflus to get this team to the promised land. We have had a few really bad coaches in a row so the leash is going to be short in terms of public opinion. Hopefully, he acts a lot differently than Nagy on the field as well but this is a start.

The Chicago Bears can save $12 million against cap by cutting these playersRyan Heckmanon February 1, 2022 at 12:00 pm

As the remaining four teams continue their quest for a Super Bowl, the Chicago Bears have been busy getting their offseason kicked into full swing.

Hiring a new general manager, Ryan Poles, has been the highlight thus far. Bringing Poles in from a successful background with the Kansas City Chiefs, the Bears are now hoping his leadership can take the team to the next level.

Poles’ first responsibility is, of course, assembling a coaching staff. But, beyond that, he will have several decisions and responsibilities when it comes to re-shaping this roster over the next few months.

The Bears have a few free agents of their own which they must make decisions on. They also have a good amount of cap space to work with — roughly the 11th-most in the league at the moment.

New Chicago Bears general manager Ryan Poles could open up even more cap space by cutting ties with a few veterans.

Although the Bears have a decent amount of money to work with, Poles could also opt to try and acquire more cap space. There are a couple of ways he could do this.

First, he could choose to try and trade a player or two. Think about guys like Robert Quinn or Khalil Mack, who are absorbing a big chunk of the Bears’ salary cap going forward. Trading someone like Mack, for instance, would also net the team draft capital. That might be in the cards.

Second, Poles could opt to cut ties with some veterans in order to save some additional cap space. There are three players, in particular, whom the Bears could cut in order to save a total of roughly $12 million if they so choose.

Jeremy Colliton already has a new head coaching jobVincent Pariseon February 1, 2022 at 1:00 pm

The Chicago Blackhawks fired Jeremy Colliton back in November after a horrid start to the season. it was a tough tenure for him as he had to replace Joel Quenneville who had been so successful there before him. He was unfit to coach this team at this point in his career and at this point in time due to Chicago’s roster.

A lot of Hawks fans will always remember Colliton with a negative attitude but that isn’t totally fair. His system truly was bad for this roster and there wasn’t a lot of talent either. The management team above him put him in a very bad spot.

There will come a time when Colliton is back in the National Hockey League as a coach. He will have learned a lot from this experience with the Hawks and other experiences he has between now and then. His next big task will come in China.

The National Hockey League is not going to the Olympic Games in China because of issues related to COVID-19. As a result, all of the players and coaches currently in the NHL are staying with their clubs in North America.

Jeremy Colliton is being given a big opportunity by Team Canada at the Olympics.

When that happened, Colliton was named to be one of the assistant coaches for Team Canada under Claude Julien. Julien had been a very successful (Hall of Fame worthy) coach with the New Jersey Devils, Boston Bruins, and Montreal Canadiens. It is likely that Colliton absorbed a lot of great coaching information from a legend like that.

Unfortunately, during a Team Canada training camp in Switzerland, he fell on the ice and fractured his ribs. The medical staff determined that he won’t be able to fly to China for the Games. As a result, the team promoted Colliton to be the head coach.

Even though it is tough to see Julien go down with this injury, it is a huge opportunity for Colliton. It is probably a dream come true for him to coach Canada in the Olympics. It is hard to evaluate the team’s thanks to a lack of NHL talent but Team Canada should be pretty good.

He will have a chance to be a Gold Medal-winning head coach at 37 years old. The fact that Team Canada, even without NHL coaches available, thinks this highly of him, is a great sign for his future. The Blackhawks weren’t able to get the most out of him but his time will come.

3 insane Chicago Blackhawks trade packages for Alex DeBrincatVincent Pariseon January 31, 2022 at 10:21 pm

Use your (arrows) to browse

The Chicago Blackhawks are a bad hockey team. However, they have some really good players at the top of their lineup. They are a bad team because of some really bad decisions that they made. However, although few and far between, the Hawks have also made a few good decisions.

One of those decisions was drafting Alex DeBrincat in the second round of the 2016 NHL Draft. He came from the Erie Otters where he played with guys like Connor McDavid (first overall in 2015) and Dylan Strome (third overall in 2015).

His size is probably the reason that he fell in the draft the next year, despite fitting in well with high draft picks like McDavid and Strome. McDavid is the best hockey player on planet earth but DeBrincat is certainly better than Strome now.

Some people might see Alex DeBrincat as an untouchable player but that is dangerous thinking. Not a single person on the Blackhawks’ roster should be considered untradable. They are trending in the wrong direction so building for the future should be the top priority.

The Hawks would get an awesome return from a contender if they made DeBrincat available. He is going to be looking for a new contract in the summer of 2023 and it should be a massive upgrade over the 6.4 million that he is making right now.

The Chicago Blackhawks might be smart to trade Alex DeBrincat right now.

It would be a big decision made by the team. Patrick Kane and Jonathan Toews are also coming up in terms of expiring contracts so this team could look very different in a few years. You have to ask yourself if the Hawks will be good again while DeBrincat is still scoring the way that he is now. These are three trade packages to consider if the answer to that question is no:
