Tom Brady did his fair share of damage against the Chicago BearsVincent Pariseon February 2, 2022 at 1:00 pm

The Chicago Bears have played against some really good players over the years. None have been better than Tom Brady who spent 20 years with the New England Patriots and two with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. It has been an incredible ride for all football fans.

On Saturday, it started to come out that Tom Brady was retiring from the NFL. Then, it became unclear after contradicting reports throughout the league. However, Tom came out on social media on Tuesday to make the announcement himself. His outstanding 22-year career is now over.

Brady will go down as the greatest football player who ever lived. You can even argue that he is the greatest team sports athlete of all time. He has accumulated seven Super Bowl titles, five Super Bowl MVPs, three league MVPs, and 15 Pro Bowls. He did nothing but win big game after big game playing the most impactful position in all of sports.

Tom did his fair share of damage against the Chicago Bears over the 22 years. He was dominant against pretty much everyone but he certainly had his successes against the Bears. He started against them seven times and went 6-1.

In those seven games, he completed 67.03 percent of his passes which led to 19 touchdowns and four interceptions. All of that amassed to 2059 yards passing (34 total yards rushing). It is clear how he managed to go 6-1 against them.

Tom Brady was magnificent against the Chicago Bears in his 7 games against them.

Of course, the one loss came in 2020 when the Bears beat him in his first year with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. That was the best thing that happened to the Bucs because they learned from that and rode it all the way to the Super Bowl where they would win it.

It is officially a new era for the National Football League as now Tom Brady, Peyton Manning, Eli Manning, Eli Manning, Phillip Rivers, Drew Brees, and Ben Roethlisberger are all retired. It is time for the new guard to completely take over and dominate the league.

That could be good news for the Chicago Bears. The top two teams in the NFC for 2021, the Green Bay Packers and Tampa Bay Buccaneers, might both be losing their star quarterbacks. Aaron Rodgers, as you probably know, could be leaving Green Bay.

If that is true, and Russell Wilson gets traded away from the Seattle Seahawks, the Los Angeles Rams would be the only team left that has an elite coach/quarterback combo. This would be a great time for Ryan Poles, Matt Eberflus, and Justin Fields to get it together.

Chicago Bears make huge trade in this 2022 NFL Mock DraftRyan Heckmanon February 2, 2022 at 12:00 pm

It is a much more exciting time to be a Chicago Bears fan in 2022 than it was a year ago. Going into the 2021 offseason and draft time, the Bears still had one gigantic question mark — quarterback.

This year, the Bears have that question answered. It’s Justin Fields’ team moving forward, and everything they do will revolve around developing his talent and surrounding him with the right guys.

New general manager Ryan Poles seems to be the right man for the job, and he understands how to surround a young quarterback with talent. Coming from Kansas City and helping in drafting Patrick Mahomes, Poles’ reputation is already strong.

Now, it’s about finding Fields some protection and playmakers of his own. That starts in the 2022 NFL Draft.

With limited capital in the 2022 NFL Draft, the Chicago Bears may have to get creative.

One of Poles’ offseason obstacles will be trying to acquire additional draft picks. The Bears only have two picks in the first four rounds of this year’s draft.

Remember, giving up the other two picks should be well-worth it — those went to acquire Fields in last year’s draft. But, now, Poles has more work to do. Trading future capital can always be on the table, too, as you continue to re-work future problems when the time comes.

If Poles can execute a trade and find the Bears one more pick in the top four rounds, they should be in good shape. Free agency will be a big teller of just where the Bears go in the draft, but having that one additional pick will be extremely valuable.

In this mock, Poles finds a way to make that happen.

NBA adds 4 G Leaguers to Rising Stars Challengeon February 2, 2022 at 2:12 am

The NBA unveiled the rosters for this month’s Rising Stars Challenge on Tuesday night, which featured the presence of G League Ignite players for the first time.

Four top prospects playing for the Ignite — Jaden Hardy, Dyson Daniels, Scoot Henderson and MarJon Beauchamp — joined 12 players from each of the 2020 and 2021 NBA draft classes in making up the 28 players who will participate in the league’s annual showcase for its stars of tomorrow as part of All-Star Weekend.

Beauchamp (14th overall), Dyson Daniels (16th) and Jaden Hardy (17th) are all projected to go into the top 20 of this year’s NBA draft by ESPN’s Jonathan Givony and Mike Schmitz, who also currently have Henderson projected to go second overall in 2023. All four prospects are part of the league’s initiative to have some of the best future prospects skip playing college basketball and ply their trade in the G League for a season — like Jalen Green, the second overall pick by the Houston Rockets in the 2021 draft, did in the Ignite program’s first year.

Green was one of 12 rookies named to the Rising Stars Challenge, which will have a new wrinkle this season. Rather than two teams playing a traditional game, there will instead be four teams made up of seven-man rosters, with the winners of two semifinal games to 50 points playing a championship game that will go to 25, a nod to the league celebrating its 75th anniversary this season.

Besides Green, the other rookies selected were: Detroit Pistons guard Cade Cunningham, the top overall pick in July’s draft; Cleveland Cavaliers forward Evan Mobley (third); Toronto Raptors forward Scottie Barnes (fourth); Orlando Magic guard Jalen Suggs (fifth) and forward Franz Wagner (eighth); Oklahoma City Thunder guard Josh Giddey (sixth); Sacramento Kings guard Davion Mitchell (ninth); Indiana Pacers guard Chris Duarte (13th); Rockets center Alperen Sengun (16th); New Orleans Pelicans forward Herb Jones (35th); and Chicago Bulls guard Ayo Dosunmu (38th).

The sophomores selected included Minnesota Timberwolves guard Anthony Edwards, the top overall pick in the 2020 draft, along with teammate Jaden McDaniels; Charlotte Hornets guard LaMelo Ball; Magic guard Cole Anthony; Philadelphia 76ers guard Tyrese Maxey; Kings guard Tyrese Haliburton; Cavaliers guard Isaac Okoro; Rockets forward Jae’Sean Tate; Pistons forward Saddiq Bey and center Isaiah Stewart; Memphis Grizzlies guard Desmond Bane; and Raptors center Precious Achiuwa.

The four teams will be coached by Hall of Famers Rick Barry, Gary Payton, Isiah Thomas and James Worthy, along with an assistant coach from the East and West coaching staffs selected to participate in the All-Star Game this season.

The Rising Stars Challenge will take place on Friday, Feb. 18, in Cleveland, kicking off All-Star Weekend. The annual Saturday night events — including the skills challenge, 3-point competition and slam dunk contest — will take place the following night, with the All-Star Game being held Sunday, Feb. 20.

Chicago Bears confirm Sean Desai’s departure as DCJordan Campbellon February 1, 2022 at 9:12 pm

When the Chicago Bears officially named former Indianapolis Colts defensive coordinator Matt Eberflus as their new head coach, the writing was on the wall for current Bears’ defensive coordinator Sean Desai.

Even prior to the Bears officially naming a new head coach, Desai was taking interviews with other teams as he had previously met with the Seattle Seahawks regarding their defensive coordinator vacancy.

Desai’s departure from the Bears was confirmed on Tuesday as his contract with the team expired and the coordinator will not be returning to the Bears next season. Desai earned praise for his first year as the Bears defensive coordinator last season.

Sean Desai, the former Bears defensive coordinator, is now a free agent. He’s already been linked to multiple teams.

He started his NFL career as a quality control coach on Marc Trestman’s staff and rose to defensive coordinator. An impressive rise to say the least.

— Adam Jahns (@adamjahns) February 1, 2022

With the success of veteran Robert Quinn and the work Desai did with the Bears’ secondary, there is no question that he has earned a keep in the league as a defensive coordinator. Desai’s departure confirms speculation that the team will have a new defensive coordinator under Eberflus.

While Eberflus is expected to bring four Colts’ defensive coaches with him, it is unclear if one of them will be elevated to the defensive coordinator position with the Bears. A potential candidate to be named the Bears’ defensive coordinator is Rod Marinelli.

Marinelli served previously as the Bears defensive coordinator from 2010-2012 and his connection with Eberflus could bring him back to Chicago.

While speaking with reporters during his introductory press conference on Monday, Eberflus did mention Marinelli by name due to his influence on his coaching career. Meanwhile, Marinelli recently spoke with the Chicago Bears official website regarding Eberflus’ hire and had nothing but praise.

“Start off with the person,” Marinelli told ChicagoBears.com. “He’s a terrific family guy. [He’s] upbeat, hard-working. That’s what jumped out to me. He’s everything you want; how he carries himself, discipline. He’s got great communication skills. I think all of those things build into a head football coach.”

Sean Desai is officially no longer the Chicago Bears defensive coordinator.

Eberflus did confirm on Monday that the Bears will be switching from a base 3-4 defense to a base Tampa-2 defense. With the change, Eberflus also confirmed that the defensive play-caller will be the team’s defensive coordinator.

Marinelli, who specializes in coordinating the Tampa-2 defense, should be available to make the jump to the Bears after the Las Vegas Raiders hired former New England Patriots offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels as their head coach.

Fortunately for Marinelli, or whoever will be the defensive coordinator, is that the Bears have several pieces already in place that will make for an easy transition to a Tampa-2 base defense. Roquan Smith is the perfect candidate to serve as the Bears’ weakside linebacker and would make for a great pairing with Khalil Mack and Robert Quinn.

Both Quinn and Mack have experience in the past operating as a 4-3 defensive end and both have thrived. Even with those pieces in place, the Bears will need a steady voice to assist with the transition and they would be hard-pressed to find a better teacher of the Tampa-2 defense than Marinelli.

Matt Eberflus should be allowed time to grows as new Chicago Bears HCJordan Campbellon February 1, 2022 at 6:00 pm

The Chicago Bears officially introduced new head coach Matt Eberflus on Monday. The reaction to his initial comments as the team’s replacement to Matt Nagy has been mixed. Though, the reason why Eberflus’ comments have not been universally received is because of who he is not.

Over the past weekend, there were three head coaching hires across the NFL landscape that caught the attention of Bears’ fans. On Friday, the New York Giants hired former Buffalo Bills offensive coordinator Brian Daboll as their head coach.

On Saturday and Sunday, the Las Vegas Raiders finalized the hiring of former New England Patriots offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels as their head coach. Over the past 24 hours, reports would seem to suggest that the Minnesota Vikings may be zeroing in on University of Michigan head coach Jim Harbaugh to be their next head coach.

After the Bears made the decision to move on from Nagy after four seasons and the failed development of two promising quarterbacks in Mitchell Trubisky and Justin Fields, the thinking was that Bears would target an offensive-minded head coach to pair with a second-year quarterback in Fields.

The Bears, however, had another plan in mind as they wanted a culture reset for their team after the lack of discipline that the Bears had under Nagy. That would be why Eberflus’ philosophy appealed to the Bears and the direction in which they want their team to head in.

“So hustle, intensity, taking care of the football, taking it away and being smart situational players. Those will be the foundational pieces that we can measure.”

Eberflus and his “HITS” acronym have been widely scrutinized by local reporters within the Chicago Sports Market.

Alright guys, listen up… pic.twitter.com/RSgkKhBVd1

Matt Eberflus needs to be afforded plenty of time as Chicago Bears coach.

There are two reasons why Eberflus has been criticized after his introductory press conference and they are that he sounds too much like a coordinator and that his name is not Jim Harbaugh. Eberflus has never been a head coach at any level within football.

That is not a fact that should be held against the new Bears’ head coach. All that Eberflus’ lack of head coaching experience means is that he is going to be need to be afforded time to develop his profile as a head coach.

It is entirely premature for any judgment to be made on Eberflus considering the fact he has yet to have a game under his belt as a head coach let alone practice.

As for Harbaugh, it seems pretty evident now that there was never going to be a match between the Bears and their former quarterback. The Bears run a pretty clear football program and that is one where the head coach reports to the general manager, and the general manager reports to the owner.

There are examples in the NFL of that type of structure being successful. While the Bears did not change the structure of their football operations, they have a new regime in place and that is something they desperately needed after the 2021 season. Time will tell if this new Bears’ regime can be successful.
