What’s New

Alex DeBrincat is part of an a very fun show in Las VegasVincent Pariseon February 5, 2022 at 2:00 pm

The Chicago Blackhawks have been a very bad team this season. They don’t do a lot of winning which is no fun to be a part of but that doesn’t take away from the fact that Alex DeBrincat has had a very nice season. He was well deserving of his spot at the NHL All-Star Game.

It started on Friday night in Vegas with the NHL Skills Competition. DeBrincat was part of a very fun show that the National Hockey League put together. There were the traditional competitions like fastest skater and accuracy shooting but there were also some new fun ones that were themed after the city of Las Vegas.

DeBrincat, along with every other player, participated in the game where the goalies had to try and have a save streak. He scored a goal in this one which kept the Pacific Division goalies from having a streak. We all knew that he was capable of doing this at a high level as he is one of the best snipers in the world.

He also competed in the Breakway Challenge which was so much fun to watch. Trevor Zegras of the Anaheim Ducks did a skit where he imitated a character from the movie “DodgeBall” and Jack Hughes of the New Jersey Devils pretended to be a Vegas magician who created a mini version of himself in a box.

DeBrincat got in on the fun with a skit of his own. He was dressed as Alan from “The Hangover” for his part and it was so much fun. He had a few people join him as other characters from the movie as well which was great to see. Everyone knows how funny that movie is and remembers it fondly.

DeBrincat also had some help with one of his chances. Las Vegas Raiders quarterback Derek Carr threw him a football that he used to deke out the goalie. The hometown Vegas crowd definitely enjoyed a skit revolving around a famous movie from their town helped out by their team’s quarterback. It was certainly one of the top moments of the night.

Most people believed that Jack Hughes deserved to win with honorable mentions for Alex DeBrincat and Trevor Zegras. However, actor John Hamm (a St. Louis native) was somehow allowed to give Alex Pietrangelo a 19 out of 10 on his scorecard.

Of course, Pietrangelo is a member of the Vegas Golden Knights so the hometown crowd loved that but he also was the captain of Hamm’s St. Louis Blues when they won the Stanley Cup in 2019. DeBrincat’s teammates had his back on social media.

Alex I think you should’ve won

The NHL Skills Competition is a great way for the league to showcase some personality along with great play from its best players. Alex DeBrincat was an awesome part of a great story and all Chicago Blackhawks fans should be proud of him. Few represent the organization better than him these days.

Ryan Poles dominates in this Chicago Bears 2022 Mock DraftRyan Heckmanon February 5, 2022 at 1:00 pm

The offseason feels as though it’s in full swing for the Chicago Bears, yet the 2021 season isn’t quite done yet. With Super Bowl LVI coming up, all eyes will be on the Cincinnati Bengals and Los Angeles Rams in an interesting battle of up-and-coming talent versus veteran stars.

In order to get to that stage in the near future, new general manager Ryan Poles will have some work to do. This offseason, the Bears have some decisions to make on their own free agents, as well as which players they will choose to spend big (or small) on in the larger free agent pool.

When it comes to the draft, the Bears are in a tough spot as they only have two picks in the first four rounds, and five picks in all.

In his opening press conference, Poles did acknowledge that he is always of the mindset that he should acquire more draft capital. Therefore, we should be expecting a trade or two in the 2022 NFL Draft.

If Chicago Bears general manager Ryan Poles plays his cards right, he could end up with a haul in the 2022 NFL Draft.

Sacrificing future draft capital isn’t always the most acceptable idea from fans’ standpoint, but in the eyes of Poles, it will be necessary.

Poles, a former offensive lineman, will do whatever he can to build around quarterback Justin Fields. That is the goal. Of course, every phase matters. But, you cannot win a Super Bowl in today’s NFL unless you build around your quarterback, first and foremost.

In our latest mock draft, Poles uses some creativity and lands a few more picks in this year’s draft to ensure the Bears are set up for more long-term, as well as immediate success.

The Chicago Bears should consider trading David MontgomeryVincent Pariseon February 5, 2022 at 12:00 pm

The Chicago Bears have an entirely different crew running the show now. With Ryan Pace and Matt Nagy out of town, there is no connection between any of the players and the new staff. Ryan Poles and Matt Eberflus have to decide who is worth keeping around and who they need to move on from.

The most intriguing position in terms of decision-making is running back. The Chicago Bears have a very good one in David Montgomery. They took him with their third-round pick of the 2019 NFL Draft. Since then, he became one of the better backs in the NFL.

The unfortunate part for Montgomery is (even though he is awesome) that Matt Nagy was terrible at running the football. Montgomery should have been fed the ball significantly more than he was. Now, that is the past and the team needs to move forward.

With that in mind, the Bears might be smart to move on from Montgomery. This is not because of anything he did. He is awesome but he is going to need another contract soon. At that point, it would be smarter to draft a new running back and pay them less.

The Chicago Bears could be smart to move on from David Montgomery.

The shelf life of a running back is significantly shorter than any other position which makes them hard to pay a lot of money. They also are the most NFL-ready when they enter the draft so they could probably get a great replacement in short order.

The Chicago Bears are a few years away from competing for Super Bowls. They might win a division title or two because the NFC North is so bad but nobody thinks they are competing with the Los Angeles Rams, San Francisco 49ers, or Arizona Cardinals in the NFC any time soon.

Because of this, keeping Montgomery might not be the smartest decision. They could get a fair return for him from a team competing for Super Bowl titles right now. The future is the key for the Bears at this stage and they can enhance it by returning picks and players for Montgomery.

If you don’t like the idea just ask yourself if you truly think the Bears will be competing for a title while Montgomery is still a good running back? The answer is probably a hard no. For that reason, it should at least be considered.

In the meantime, the Bears would still be able to have some good play from the running back position. We can only hope that Matt Eberflus and Luke Getsy use that position more efficiently than those who came before them. Tarik Cohen and Khalil Herbert would be just fine in that role for now. It is something to really think about if the right offer calls.

Brown leaves Wizards to be Ravens’ presidenton February 4, 2022 at 10:17 pm

OWINGS MILLS, Md. — Sashi Brown is leaving Monumental Sports and the NBA’s Washington Wizards to return to the NFL as president of the Baltimore Ravens, it was announced Friday.

Brown, 45, becomes the third president in Ravens history and replaces Dick Cass, who turned 76 last month and is retiring after serving in that role for 18 years.

Brown is expected to join the Ravens in March and he will officially take over as team president on April 1. The Ravens said he will “oversee every area of the organization,” including player and staff personnel, coaching, corporate sales, operations, communications and business ventures.

After spending 12 years in the NFL, Brown has worked the past two years for Monumental Sports and the Wizards. He had been promoted to president and special adviser to chairman Ted Leonsis in November.

The Ravens’ hiring of Brown, who is Black, comes amid increased scrutiny of NFL diversity hiring practices following a lawsuit by former Miami Dolphins coach Brian Flores earlier this week in which he claims alleged racial discrimination regarding his interview process.

Brown returns to the NFL and the AFC North for the first time since the Cleveland Browns fired him as their executive vice president of football operations during the 2017 season. The Browns struggled to a 1-27 record with Brown in control of personnel and Hue Jackson as coach, but the team stockpiled picks for future drafts and created more salary-cap space than any team in the league.

Jackson told ESPN on Wednesday that the Browns had a “four-year plan” that incentivized losing during that period. A day later, Browns owner Jimmy Haslam fired back, saying the claim that Jackson was paid to lose games is “an absolute falsehood.”

Before joining Cleveland, Brown spent eight years (2005 to 2012) as senior vice president and general counsel of the Jacksonville Jaguars. He was involved in both football and business operations.

In 2019, Brown was hired as chief planning and operations officer for Monumental Basketball — a group that includes the Wizards, the WNBA’s Washington Mystics and the Capital City Go-Go of the G League.

Brown takes over for Cass, a beloved figure in the organization who is the longest-serving president in Ravens history. Cass was hired in 2004, becoming Steve Bisciotti’s first hire as new owner of the Ravens. Over that time, he had a voice in nearly every major decision in the organization, from business ventures to social justice reform to stadium improvements to guiding the committee that hired coach John Harbaugh.

Now, the top leadership trio under Bisciotti is Brown, Harbaugh and general manager Eric DeCosta.
