Chicago Bulls should look at 5 available players at trade deadlineRyan Heckmanon February 8, 2022 at 3:00 pm

With two straight losses, the Chicago Bulls have now dropped to third place in the Eastern Conference behind the Miami Heat and the Milwaukee Bucks.

The 2022 NBA trade deadline is this Thursday, and after losing two in a row and going 5-5 in their last 10, the Bulls may be inclined more than ever to make a move this year.

Last year, Arturas Karnisovas and Marc Eversley went big at the deadline by acquiring Nikola Vucevic from the Orlando Magic. That proved this new front office was not messing around, and this year could be no different.

At the moment, the Bulls could mostly use another big man. Ideally, targeting a player who could play either the four or five would be in their best interest.

There are several rumored players available at the trade deadline which should interest the Chicago Bulls.

Whether it be via buyout or trade, the Bulls could have plenty of options to add another big. It’s been especially difficult without Patrick Williams this year, although he could return before the playoffs.

Billy Donovan has used a lot of different lineups throughout the year, while dealing with the loss of Williams.

Like they proved last year, the Bulls aren’t opposed to trading future draft capital — even first-round picks. One of their intriguing assets, right now, is the Portland Trailblazers’ first rounder, which is lottery protected.

Using that pick, along with some players, could net the Bulls the big man they’re looking for. Potentially, one of these five could come in and help at the power forward spot.

3 Ayo Dosunmu traits that flaunt his limitless potentialJosh Bootzinon February 8, 2022 at 2:00 pm

Ayo Dosunmu has been one of the best season-long stories for a Chicago Bulls team that is in competition for a top seed in the eastern conference for the first time since the departure of Derrick Rose.

Various injuries and COVID-related absences opened a large hole in the middle of the Bulls’ rotation, allowing the second-round pick the opportunity to gain some valuable on-court experience in his inaugural season. He has more than stepped up to the challenge.

Hailing from Morgan Park and starring at the University of Illinois, Dosunmu has hometown hero written all over him. His defensive intensity and never-back-down attitude play perfectly into Chicago’s defensive-minded sports culture, causing him to quickly become a fan favorite.

Very few rookies show the level of poise that Dosunmu has this early in his career. Humility and a willingness to learn are traits that usually take a player far in professional sports and the Bulls rookie is surrounded by some of the smartest minds in basketball.

Ayo Dosunmu has been an amazing rookie for the Chicago Bulls this season.

Any young player would be lucky to play for former two-time NCAA tournament champion head coach Billy Donovan. Also, it appears that All-Star starter DeMar DeRozan has taken Dosunmu under his wing, providing the latter with an invaluable role model at the height of his career.

There are three aspects of Dosunmu’s game that shine above the rest ad those are defense, facilitating, and shooting efficiency. All three of these traits are uncommon in rookies and are usually improved through time and experience.

Dosunmu has proven he’s very much ahead of schedule. We’re going to venture through a standout performance within the last month in which Dosunmu has demonstrated each of these skills to near perfection:

Chicago Cubs taking wrong approach with reported streaming serviceJordan Campbellon February 8, 2022 at 2:30 pm

The rollout of the Marquee Television network for the Chicago Cubs has not been the cleanest and there have been little signs of improvement.

The network made their debut prior to the 2020 Major League Baseball regular season and that could not have come at a worst time. The entire country was in the middle of a pandemic that forced Major League Baseball to push back their regular season until July of that 2020. Couple that with the Cubs strained negotiations with Comcast, the top Cable-provider in Chicago, the network has often been criticized by their fan-base.

With a current lockout existing between Major League Baseball and Major League Baseball’s Players Association, Major League Baseball is once again in a position where the start of their regular season may be delayed.

The Cubs seemingly have not learned from their mistake of their rollout for the Marquee Television Network and are in talks to debut a streaming network this season. The New York Post is reporting that talks between the Cubs and Sinclair Broadcasting, the parent company of the Marquee Television Network, are progressing. Major League Baseball has pushed back against this idea and one of the reasons is the potential price. that the service would cost.

One key point of concern for MLB, according to insiders, is the $18-a-month price tag that’s being floated for the new Cubs streaming service — a tab that’s higher than what users pay for streaming services like Netflix, HBO Max or Disney+ and which league officials fear will be too high for the average fan.

The $18-a-month price tag would unquestionably be a difficult ask for the average fan to pay in order to watch Cubs’ games. The fact of the matter is that baseball is broken in regards the interest that the game garners from their fanbase.

The Chicago Cubs show tone deafness with idea of fans paying for a streaming service.

The average baseball fan likely does not watch all 162 games of a regular season. Couple the lack of interest from the average fan watching all 162 games of a regular season with the fact the regular season is only 6 months long, paying $108 a year for the service seems unreasonable.

This also a difficult ask by the Cubs, specifically. Over the course of the past 12 months, the Cubs have traded away fan favorites such as Javier Baez, Anthony Rizzo and Kris Bryant due to the team’s unwillingness to sign any of them a long-term contract extension. The Cubs have to first show an investment into their Major League Baseball product before asking fans to make an investment.

3 crazy Alex DeBrincat trades with the Edmonton OilersVincent Pariseon February 8, 2022 at 1:00 pm

Alex DeBrincat is the best forward on the Chicago Blackhawks not named Patrick Kane. If NHL players went to the Olympics, he surely would have been a part of Team USA. Watching him develop over the past few years has been a treat.

DeBrincat fell a bit in the draft thanks to his size. That was proven to be a big mistake and now many teams wish they had this guy. The Hawks were the lucky ones who got him. He has made them very happy they took a risk on him when they did.

Now, DeBrincat just finished his first-ever All-Star weekend. He was one of the great performers in the NHL Skills Competition and then had a lot of success in the actual All-Star Game. He was a big part of the Central Division’s win over the Atlantic in the first game. They fell to the Metropolitan Division in the second game but DeBrincat was nothing short of awesome.

Going forward, people are going to start thinking about DeBrincat’s future. He has one more year left on his current contract after this year worth 6.4 million. That is very low for a forward that is going to push for 50 goals at times in his career. Few can finish a play as well as he can.

One option is a trade. The Blackhawks would probably get a lot for him right now because he has the rest of this year and all of next year for cheap. There are a lot of playoff-contending teams that could use him.

The Chicago Blackhawks could really get a fair amount back for Alex DeBrincat.

One of those teams is the Edmonton Oilers. DeBrincat played his junior hockey with Connor McDavid as a member of the Erie Otters and they were dominant together. Seeing these two reunite at the NHL level would be so cool. These three trades might land DeBrincat for the Oilers if they really wanted it:

3 logical DH candidates for the Chicago Cubs in 2022Ryan Sikeson February 8, 2022 at 12:00 pm

Despite the ongoing labor talks, the universal DH is expected to be implemented in the 2022 season. Here are three candidates on the Chicago Cubs roster.

The Chicago Cubs and the National League got a trial run with the universal DH implemented as part of the shortened 2020 season. A total of 16 players got a look at the position in an effort to get everyone their at-bats. However, Victor Caratini and Willson Contreras led the pack with 18 games each as the team’s primary DH.

Leading into the 2021 season, Major League Baseball opted not to have the universal DH in play. Still, the door remained open for it to return permanently as part of the league’s new Collective Bargaining Agreement.

And here we are.

All signs point toward a delayed start to the 2022 regular season as the league and players’ association remain far apart on several items. That said, the universal DH has all but been accepted going forward.

Barring something totally unexpected, it can be assumed at this point that the universal DH will be in place in 2022. Both sides are in favor (though true to these talks, they don’t seem to totally agree on who benefits most from a DH on all 30 teams)

Heading into a season where the roster is generally in flux, the Cubs have a number of options they could consider for their designated hitter.
