Doc on Simmons’ return: Rivalries good for NBAon March 9, 2022 at 8:35 pm

CAMDEN, N.J. — Even with Ben Simmons not playing in Thursday night’s game between the Brooklyn Nets and Philadelphia 76ers, there is plenty of excitement surrounding the game in Philadelphia.

Sixers coach Doc Rivers said after Wednesday’s practice that while he isn’t a fan of the way this Atlantic Division rivalry began, he is a fan of rivalries in general — and thinks the NBA is in great shape with how wide open and competitive the Eastern Conference is.

“I don’t like how, let’s say, this rivalry was started,” Rivers said with a smile. “I’ll pass on all that, let me put it that way. But I love when there’s rivalries. I love when there’s teams that are in the same conference that want to play each other and go after each other. That’s all good.

“The league is in a great place right now. It really is. I mean, you look at the East, there’s five, six teams that legitimately can win the East. In the West, the same thing. So if you’re over at the league, if you’re Adam Silver right now, you’re loving the league, you really are. Because competition is good, right? That’s what we want. We want a good, hard game, with competition. And that’s a great thing, and I think we have it in our league right now.”

Two of those teams Rivers was referring to — his own, and the Nets — will square off Thursday in the first meeting between the teams since their blockbuster trade last month that saw Simmons and James Harden get swapped before the NBA trade deadline.

The game will be the stiffest test that Harden and Joel Embiid have faced since they began playing games together two weeks ago. Philadelphia has gone 5-0 in games the two superstars have played in together, but none have come against opponents the caliber of Kevin Durant and Kyrie Irving, two elite scorers.

Rivers cautioned against reading too much into an individual game, saying five games is too short a time to make any sweeping judgments.

“Kevin Durant is elite,” Rivers said. “Kyrie is elite. When you give them the ball, they’re really tough to guard. There’s no secrets to that. We’ve got some elite guys here, too, and there’s probably no secrets to that. Both teams are probably still trying to figure out stuff. They’ve had guys in and out all year. Us, too, with the trade.

“So it’s tough to have a real measure after five, either way. But it’s still good to play them. It’s good to play all these teams. I think a little bit at a time, but you learn a little bit at a time.”

What won’t be learned is how Simmons will look with his new teammates, or how he’ll play against his old ones, as he remains sidelined with a back issue.

But that hasn’t stopped Philadelphia from being fired up for the game — and from his old teammates admitting that the contest means more than the typical regular-season affair.

“Absolutely,” Sixers forward Georges Niang said when asked if it means more than a normal game. “I mean, obviously we’re not gonna hide and say what didn’t happen. There was a trade that happened, we got James, they got Ben.

“I’m sure there’s a ton of anticipation for the fans, there’s a ton of anticipation for us, but I think when we get out on the court, it’s another game. Obviously it’s an in-conference rival, but this obviously means a little more for guys on our side, for sure.”

What you need to know for Wednesday night’s NBA slate

By Jim McCormick and Kyle Soppe

Valuing Vassell: All signs point to Devin Vassell (86% available) returning from a one game absence (groin) and he’s been more productive than most seem willing to admit. He has scored at least 10 points in six straight and has either a block or steal all 13 games he’s appeared in since February 1. He’s shooting 37.5% at home this season and with the Spurs ranking top 5 in pace of play, there’s streaming intrigue here given that San Antonio plays three home games in the next four days.

Save on Smart: Jayson Tatum deservedly gets the headlines in Boston, but don’t lose track of Marcus Smart ($6,500 on DraftKings) if you’re trying for a unique build tonight. He’s averaged 13.8 points, 2.5 made 3’s and 7.7 assists following the All Star Break and he finds himself in a pace up spot against a Hornets team on the second night of a back-to-back.

Star Stash: It’s time to roster Michael Porter Jr., as the gifted forward could return to action in the next few weeks. Rostered in just 55% of leagues, even a slow reintegration to the Nuggets’ lineup could result in some big scoring outings by the end of the month.

Campaigning: The Suns pulled off a close road win in Orlando last night thanks to some deft playmaking from Cameron Payne (available in 78% of leagues). With Chris Paul ruled out for tonight’s matchup in Miami, Payne is truly a must-add option in all formats and a strong play for assist props given he’s dished out an absurd 36 dimes the last three games.

Get the Bag: Isaiah Stewart won’t play against the Bulls tonight due to a knee injury. With Stewart leaving the team’s recent win over Atlanta after just 10 minutes of action, Marvin Bagley III (available in 53% of leagues) played 36 minutes and delivered a double-double for the Pistons. Likely to play a large role against a Chicago team that lacks interior defense, Bagley is in a good spot to hit his scoring and rebounding props.

Going Deep: The shorthanded Trail Blazers are heavy underdogs to the Jazz this evening, but there could be some helpful fantasy contributors found deeper on the roster. With Anfernee Simons questionable, we could see guard Brandon Williams (available in 98% of leagues) shine again. Williams erupted for 27 points, 10 combined rebounds and assists, and four steals in the team’s last game. With Portland in need of playmaking, shares of both Williams and Josh Hart could prove rewarding in redraft and DFS competition.

Game of the Night

Line: Heat (-8.5)
Moneyline: Heat (-400), Suns (+300)
Total: 217.5 points
BPI projected total: 210.5 points
BPI win%: Heat (78.3%)

Notable: The Heat at 5-1-2 ATS in their past 8 games and seven of their past 10 at home have gone over the total.

Key players ruled out: Chris Paul, Markieff Morris

Questionable: Cameron Johnson (quadriceps), Caleb Martin (Achilles)

Best bet: Bam Adebayo over 32.5 total points + assists + rebounds. The key will be playing time. Adebayo has gone over 32.5 PAR in nine straight games in which he has played at least 32 minutes. He’s been below the mark in four straight games when he’s played under 32 minutes. In their last three games, the Suns have allowed a frontcourt player to score at least 20 points or grab at least 10 rebounds in every contest (including Julius Randle, who was ejected in the third quarter), with those three players averaging 21.3 PPG and 10.7 RPG. — Andre Snellings

Fantasy streamer: Cameron Payne. The fact that Payne is available in 81.7% of ESPN leagues boggles my mind. He has recorded two double-doubles in his last three games. In addition, Payne has recorded 44 assists in four games since returning from injury. He has had a 26.5% usage rate over that time period. –– Eric Moody

Best bet: Robert Williams III over 22.5 points + rebounds. the Hornets have been a favorable matchup for centers all season long, which bodes well for Williams. Over the last five games, he has averaged a double-double. The Hornets rank 20th in points allowed per 100 possessions and allow opponents to grab a lot of offensive rebounds.

BPI projected total: 221.5 points
BPI win%: Bulls (59%)

Key players ruled out: Isaiah Stewart, Lonzo Ball, Patrick Williams, Alex Caruso

Questionable: Nikola Vucevic (hamstring)

Notable: The Pistons are 7-0-1 ATS over their past eight games and their past three games have gone under the total.

Best Bet: Pistons +6 over Bulls. The Pistons are not only hot against the spread, but hot overall. They’ve won six of their last eight outright, including victories over teams contending for the postseason like the Celtics, Cavaliers, Raptors, Hawks and Hornets. The Bulls, meanwhile, have lost five straight by an average of 9.2 PPG. — Snellings

Fantasy streamer: Marvin Bagley III. With Isaiah Stewart out, Bagley (56% available) is on the streaming radar. He’s averaged 18 points, 9.0 rebounds, 1.5 assists and 1.5 steals per game in 29 minutes. Bagley’s chemistry with Cade Cunningham should be on full display against the Bulls. — Moody

Best bet: Ayo Dosunmu over 19.5 total points + rebounds + assists Dosunmu should get all the work he can handle since Lonzo Ball and Alex Caruso are still out for the Bulls. He has averaged 13 points, 5.0 assists, and 3.0 rebounds over the last four games. The Pistons are 25th in points allowed per 100 possessions and allow opponents to rack up a lot of offensive rebounds.

Best bet: Bucks -5 over Hawks. The Bucks have been streaking down the stretch, winners of five straight games by an average of 13.6 PPG. The Hawks have been stagnant, going 3-3 in their last six games and 7-8 in their last 15. — Snellings

Fantasy streamer: Herbert Jones (85% available) contributes stats across the board for fantasy managers. In his last five games, he has averaged 8.3 PPG, 4.0 RPG, 2.0 APG, 2.3 SPG, and 1.0 BPG. This season, the Magic have allowed small forwards to average 21 points, 8.5 rebounds, 4.0 assists, 1.7 steals, and 0.9 blocks per game. — Moody

Ryan Poles’ Chicago Bears rebuild should closely follow Denver blueprintAnish Puligillaon March 9, 2022 at 4:00 pm

It’s no secret that the Chicago Bears have some work to do on their roster to truly compete. However, I think the biggest misconception surrounding team building is that teams need to find the quarterback first. The Broncos’ team-building process over the last few years shows that isn’t necessarily true.

After winning the Super Bowl in 2015, Denver only posted one winning record in 2016 when they went 9-7. The next five seasons saw them win no more than seven games in any season. However, while they were losing, Denver wasn’t out every offseason spending all their cap on high-end free agents or making aggressive trades in the draft.

The Broncos, over the past five years, built almost entirely through the draft and matched that with key role players in free agency that didn’t break the bank. What was the result of this? The ability to become the most attractive quarterback (QB) destination and easily take on their new QB’s salary. In addition, while Wilson is 33, the rest of the Broncos roster is at an average age of 25.6 (good for the 13th youngest in the NFL).

This is the road the Chicago Bears need to go down if they want to build a long-term contender. Luckily, it seems like Ryan Poles is laser-focused on building through the draft and targeting low-risk, high-reward free agents. See, the Bears’ ultimate goal has to be to develop their team such that it doesn’t matter whether Justin Fields reaches his ceiling (as we all believe) or not.

Whether or not Fields develops, the Chicago Bears’ mission to build a contending roster remains paramount.

In the Broncos case, they committed to building their team around Drew Lock despite knowing for three years that he wasn’t the answer. Yet, they continued improving their team and it put them in a position to acquire an elite QB and immediately compete for a Super Bowl.

For the Bears, it’d be absolutely terrific for Justin to reach his ceiling and become the first true franchise QB for the Chicago Bears in the Super Bowl era. However, their contingency plan has to be to build a team great enough to win now such that if Fields doesn’t pan out, another franchise QB points to them as their ideal trade destination.

We’re entering a new era of player movement in the NFL. Players are no longer content staying in losing situations. Matthew Stafford is probably the last of a former breed of quarterback who will stay loyal and committed to the team that drafted them in spite of the situation. Three years in a row has seen a major QB move via trade or free agency. Tom Brady in 2020. Matthew Stafford in 2021. Now, Russell Wilson in 2022. Deshaun Watson hasn’t even been traded yet.

As a result, teams without QBs are even more incentivized to build strong teams and attract potentially unhappy QBs. It’s no longer about tanking for a draft pick to take the next raw prospect. It’s also about making the team look as attractive as possible for unhappy, established veteran QBs.

I believe the Chicago Bears are in a great situation where they have a young QB to build around, and I personally think Justin will reach his potential, but at the same time, Ryan Poles must not bank on this becoming reality. It is imperative that he build out the rest of this team, making them younger and chock full of promising talent such that whether or not Fields develops they’ll be in a position to be a major player on the QB market.

The Russell Wilson trade is great for the Chicago BearsVincent Pariseon March 9, 2022 at 3:00 pm

The Chicago Bears are still trying to build. They have a new general manager and head coach in place which is a great start. Now, they are hoping that the news about Russell Wilson makes their chances of reaching the postseason better.

The day started (Tuesday) with bad news for Chicago. Aaron Rodgers is going to be returning to the Green Bay Packers. There are contradicting reports coming out on the contract’s details but he confirmed that he will be back. Now, the Bears will have to continue seeing him in the way of the division.

Later in the day, a bit of news came out that should make Bears fans very happy. Another NFC team got significantly worse as the Seattle Seahawks traded away Russell Wilson to the Denver Broncos. He will be shipped into the AFC which opens the playoff field even more.

The Seahawks are probably going to be pretty bad for the foreseeable future. The Los Angeles Rams, Arizona Cardinals, and San Francisco 49ers are going to run the division going forward but we don’t know to what extent. There are question marks for all of them.

The Chicago Bears should be ecstatic about Russell Wilson leaving town.

The New Orleans Saints no longer have Drew Brees (or Sean Payton) anymore and the Tampa Bay Bucs don’t have Tom Brady. There could be a shifting of power in the NFC in the long term with moves like this which could help the Bears if they ever get it together.

With Wilson leaving Seattle, only the Los Angeles Rams have an elite coach/QB duo with Sean McVay and Matthew Stafford. Matt LaFleur and Aaron Rodgers are on their way as LaFleur continues to grow as a coach but Los Angeles is the only one who has that with certainty.

The Chicago Bears want to take a step soon. They believe that Justin Fields will be a superstar after they drafted him in the first round of the 2021 NFL Draft. A lot is riding on that decision to draft him as high as they did.

The Seahawks are not a problem for the Bears anymore. The Green Bay Packers will own the NFC North Division with Rodgers back in the mix but there are plenty of other ways to make the playoffs via a Wild Card spot.

Without Wilson, the Seahawks won’t be playing for anything. That, as mentioned before, leaves more room for the Chicago Bears. We can only hope that their quarterback Justin Fields continues to develop and dominate his way to the postseason in short order.

Patrick Kane’s did something that he’s never done beforeVincent Pariseon March 9, 2022 at 2:00 pm

Patrick Kane and the Chicago Blackhawks absolutely destroyed the Anaheim Ducks on Tuesday night. They won by a final score of 8-3 at the United Center. Kane, along with a few other players, had big games which allowed Chicago to collect a big win.

Of course, like most nights, Kane was at the center of it all. For the first time in his career, he had six points in one game (one goal and five assists). It was the most productive game that Kane has ever had which is saying something because he is going to be a first-ballot Hall of Famer.

Dylan Strome had a hat trick in the game and Kane had the primary assist on all three of the goals. They clearly have some chemistry now which has been great to see. It’s almost as if the previous coach was wrong about Strome and everybody knew it but him.

Strome had a hat trick and chipped in an assist so he had four points on the night. Alex DeBrincat also had four points so it was the usual suspects leading the way for Chicago. These three players have been outstanding lately. It is just terrible that the Hawks are wasting a season like this from these guys.

It was nice to see Jonathan Toews get on the board as well. He has had a tough season coming back from his illness that he dealt with in 2020-21 so getting him going would be nice. We are always rooting for one of the best in franchise history to succeed.

Patrick Kane has been outstanding for the Chicago Blackhawks in recent years.

Kane’s game has been remarkable lately. Coming into this game against the Ducks, he had 11 points in his last six games. Now, with six points in this game, he can say that he has 17 points in his last 7 games which is absolutely insane.

It is really unfortunate that the Blackhawks are 17 points out of a playoff spot because the sport deserves to have Kane in the postseason. He now has 64 points in 54 games played. He will eclipse 90 points once again but then be sent packing early which is just a shame.

The only way that doesn’t happen is if he gets traded. He has a hefty cap hit which makes him hard to trade but teams have already inquired. It would be tough to see him leave town but he has so much more to give than what Chicago is allowing him to do. For now, we will just remember this outstanding six-point performance as he continues to heat up.

Why Matt Eberflus would want the Chicago Bears to sign Bobby WagnerRyan Heckmanon March 9, 2022 at 2:30 pm

Tuesday saw the NFL explode with major news throughout the day. The Chicago Bears found out the fate of Aaron Rodgers, and it appears they’ll have to deal with him for a little while longer.

Aside from Rodgers staying in Green Bay, the Seattle Seahawks traded quarterback Russell Wilson to the Denver Broncos, who were also in on Rodgers before he ultimately chose to stay.

The Seahawks didn’t stop with dealing Wilson, though, as the rebuild looks imminent. Seattle also chose to part ways with 6-time All Pro linebacker Bobby Wagner.

Now looking for a new team, Wagner will have plenty of suitors. However, the Bears actually make a ton of sense for the 8-time Pro Bowl selection.

Eight-time All-Pro Bobby Wagner has been released by the Seattle Seahawks, via @AdamSchefter pic.twitter.com/BM21wvjaoH

— Bleacher Report (@BleacherReport) March 9, 2022

Chicago Bears head coach Matt Eberflus should be all-in on signing free agent Bobby Wagner.

The Bears have their weak side linebacker in Roquan Smith, but the other two spots are up for grabs. There’s no telling what the team will do with Danny Trevathan, but many outlets wonder if they end up cutting ties with the veteran who has failed to stay healthy as of late.

Wagner, meanwhile, would come in as a perfect fit in Eberflus’ 4-3 defense. For much of his career in Seattle, Wagner played in a base 4-3 defense. So, he’s at least familiar with the scheme.

This guy is a true middle linebacker, too. He’s built for the position — and Eberflus should know, as a former linebacker himself.

Eberflus played linebacker at Toledo before starting his coaching career there as well. Over his 3-year career playing for Toledo, Eberflus racked up a whopping 325 tackles. He was a tackling machine — much like Wagner.

Eberflus was an outside linebackers coach for Toledo from 1996-1998 before taking over their defensive backs.

From there, though, Eberflus went on to coach the linebackers for the Cleveland Browns and Dallas Cowboys before getting his chance as a defensive coordinator in Indianapolis.

If he understands any position better than another, it’s linebacker. Eberflus already has two excellent pass rushers in Khalil Mack and Robert Quinn, plus Smith as his mainstay linebacker at the moment.

Imagine if this defense added Wagner to the fold. They would be borderline unstoppable. From there, all they’d need to do was address the secondary and maybe a defensive lineman.

If anything, Wagner would take this defense from good to great, and that would help franchise quarterback Justin Fields immensely. Putting your young, developing quarterback in good field position is a staple in building confidence and rhythm.

Last season, Wagner posted a career-high 170 tackles. He may be 31 years old, but he isn’t slowing down in the least bit. He’s right in the thick of his prime and has only missed two games since 2015. Health is on his side. Productivity is as good as it’s ever been.

Bringing Wagner to Chicago would be a slam dunk by Eberflus and Ryan Poles.

Chicago Bulls must adjust to defensive strategy being used against themRyan Heckmanon March 9, 2022 at 1:00 pm

It seemed like just a little while ago the Chicago Bulls were in sole possession of first place in the Eastern Conference. Now, they sit in the four seed and are completely reeling.

Losers of five in a row, the Bulls look out of sorts and are searching for answers. They are only a half-game ahead of the Boston Celtics and are in danger of dropping to bottom half of the top-8.

The losing streak began February 26 against Memphis, when Ja Morant went nuclear in a 116-110 loss for Chicago. Since then, the Bulls have dropped games to the Miami Heat, Atlanta Hawks, Milwaukee Bucks and Philadelphia 76ers.

All five of those teams used the same defensive strategy against the Bulls, according to big man Tristan Thompson. Although Thompson didn’t add specifics to this particular strategy, one can assume exactly what he means.

The Chicago Bulls must recognize how teams are defending them as of late and make quick adjustments.

If anyone has watched the last five games, it’s been apparent. It’s easy to spot just how teams are defending the Bulls — and it should be easy to adjust. Billy Donovan pointed the finger at himself recently, but the Bulls need to figure this out collectively.

A lot of the time, DeMar DeRozan is the one bringing the ball up the floor. It has looked painfully easy for opposing teams to quickly double DeRozan, trapping him and either forcing a bad pass, picking his pocket, forcing a jump ball or maybe just a plain, old bad shot.

When Zach LaVine is handling the ball at the top of the key, towards the beginning of a possession, it’s the same exact strategy. They’ll crowd either DeRozan or LaVine, but most of the time it’s been DeRozan — and it’s led to disaster for the Bulls.

At this point, the Bulls are showing a lack of faith in rookie point guard Ayo Dosunmu. It’s not that they don’t have any faith in him, because he’s being trusted to start over Coby White in the place of Lonzo Ball.

But, if Dosunmu was allowed to be the primary ball-handler when bringing the ball up the court, it would allow for more movement on DeRozan’s part — this also impacts LaVine, too.

The Bulls haven’t had enough movement on offense as of late, and it’s because of teams doubling DeRozan and forcing the team out of any offensive rhythm.

This team is at its best when they are moving and allowing the guy at the top of the key to make the right pass. When that player is usually DeRozan, teams are making it tough on them.

Having DeRozan not be the main ball-handler might be the key ingredient to stop teams from having so much success against them. Let him move around, set some screens and get him open. He’s still more than capable of playing iso, but he has to have some room to work with first.

Chicago Bears should spend big money on these 5 free agentsRyan Heckmanon March 9, 2022 at 12:00 pm

Chicago Bears ()David Banks-USA TODAY Sports

We are now less than a week away from the beginning of the NFL’s legal tampering period, which starts this coming Monday, March 14. For the Chicago Bears, we shouldn’t expect too many major headlines right away.

When the Bears hired Ryan Poles to be their general manager, they understood his philosophy of building through the draft and spending wisely.

Already, Poles has reiterated the fact that he doesn’t plan to go after any first wave free agents. Instead, he’ll focus most of his energy on the second wave.

However, Poles should definitely keep an eye on some of those first wave guys. Just in case he can get the right guy for the job, he needs to keep his options open.

If the right player is available, the Chicago Bears should spend big on certain free agents.

There are key positions in which the Bears desperately need help. They will have a decent amount of cap space, too, especially if they decide to part ways with some veterans to open up additional cash.

It is understandable that Poles wants to be wise in terms of his finances. It’s refreshing, quite frankly. Ryan Pace wasn’t always that way. But, it could be said that being wise with your money also means to secure the correct players for their worthy price tag.

Poles knows that building a team through the draft is the way to go, but free agency exists for a reason. The first wave might be costly, but we could see a couple of particular players come to Chicago during that period of time.

It isn’t a foregone conclusion that Poles refuses to spend during the first wave. He’s just going to be cautious. If he’s willing to spend on some more notable names, then these five free agents should be way up on his list.

Just a year ago, quarterback Russell Wilson and the Chicago Bears were hot names connected via the NFL’s rumor mill. It seemed as though every outlet had the two paired in some fashion.

In the end, we all know the Bears and Wilson did not join forces. Instead, Chicago traded up for their own franchise quarterback when they selected Justin Fields.

Wilson stayed in Seattle for one more year, even though a divorce seemed imminent.

Tuesday, the separation was finalized. On a day where we saw Aaron Rodgers state he was sticking around Green Bay, it was Wilson who was traded to the Denver Broncos.

With Russell Wilson gone, could the Chicago Bears pry a receiver from the Seattle Seahawks?

Now that Wilson is on his way out, the Seahawks appear to be entering a rebuilding stage. This year’s draft class isn’t the strongest at the quarterback position, and Seattle might just play out the 2022 season with the newly-acquired Drew Lock under center.

I’d call and ask about DK Metcalf….worth a shot.

Should the Seahawks be open for business, one has to wonder whether or not they would look to trade guys like Tyler Lockett or DK Metcalf.

Each of them have plenty to offer a new team, and Seattle could end up stacking draft capital as they prepare for life without Russ.

If general manager Ryan Poles wants to solidify one position before free agency officially hits, he should reach out and see what it would take to land either Lockett or Metcalf. One of the following trades just might get it done.

Chicago Cubs: Bullpen arm Codi Heuer to miss entire 2022 seasonRyan Sikeson March 8, 2022 at 10:07 pm

Chicago Cubs reliever Codi Heuer reportedly underwent Tommy John surgery earlier this week and will miss all of the 2022 season. He shared a photo on his Instagram on Tuesday post-surgery.

“Horses don’t stop, they keep going,” Heuer posted along with a picture of his arm in a brace. “Can’t wait to be back with the best fans in baseball again.”

Heuer, 25, was acquired along with Nick Madrigal in the Craig Kimbrel deal with the Chicago White Sox at the trade deadline last summer. Before coming over to the north side, the Missoula, MT native posted a 5.12 ERA in 40 outings with the White Sox. He was hit-or-miss, owning 9.1 K/9 and 10.5 H9 metrics.

With the Cubs, Heuer made 25 appearances, all out of the bullpen, spinning a much better 3.14 ERA but struggled with his command, walking 13 batters in just 28.2 innings of work.

The Chicago Cubs are losing an important bullpen arm in Codi Heuer.

While Major League Baseball is still sorting through the lockout, the injury comes at a terrible time as Heuer looked to be a big piece of the Cubs bullpen.

Despite finishing in the top seven percent of the league in barrel percentage, Heuer allowed a .336 batting average on his fastball last season. His two other pitches, a slider, and a changeup were very good, generating a .151 and .170 average, respectively.

Heuer pitched mostly in the later innings, with an impressive .221 batting average and 1.93 ERA in the eighth inning, perhaps paving the way as a potential closer one day.

He was also really good working with two outs in the inning, generating a combined 24 strikeouts to just five walks while allowing a .238 average.

Fangraphs projected the right-hander to post a 3.71 ERA, 8.5 K/9, and 2.8 BB/9 in 68.0 innings of work.

Unfortunately, we’ll have to wait until 2023 before we see Heuer again. Maybe we’ll have a new CBA by then.

Heuer’s injury opens the door for other fringe roster players to claim a spot in the bullpen whenever the season gets underway.
