I’ve Got The Hippy Shakes
What would Donald Trump look like on Mount Rushmore?
Donald Trump is obsessive. Once he gets started on something, he doesn’t let up…no matter how ridiculous it is. Hydroxychloroquine?
He likes to talk about becoming the fifth face on Mount Rushmore. It’s always said in a joking manner, but you know deep inside his head, he’s trying to find a way to make it happen.
The Rushmore thing came up again this weekend. There was a New York Times report that the White House inquired of South Dakota Governor Kristi Noem if it was possible to add Don to the mountain. Naturally, Trump said that it was fake news, but…in a tweet said:
“This is Fake News by the failing @nytimes & bad ratings @CNN. Never suggested it although, based on all of the many things accomplished during the first 3 1/2 years, perhaps more than any other Presidency, sounds like a good idea to me!”
Just another facepalm moment in the daily world of Trump, right? But, what if it could actually be done? What if Trump was on Mount Rushmore? What would that look like? How would he pose? Here are a few ideas:

Howard Moore
My so called friends think it’s time to edit this section. After four years, they may be right, but don’t tell them that. I’ll deny it until they die!
I can’t believe I’ve been writing this blog for four years.
It started as a health/wellness thing and over the years has morphed to include so many things that I don’t know how to describe it anymore.
I really thought this was going to be the final year of the blog but then Donald Trump came along. It looks like we’re good for four more years..God help us all!
Oh yeah…the biographical stuff. I’m not 60 anymore. The rest you can read about in the blog. -

July Chicago Real Estate Market Shows Strong Signs Of Comeback

of making a comeback in July
As expected the Chicago real estate market began to make up for a lot of lost time in July. Not only did sales (closings) come back to more normal levels but the stage is set for even stronger growth in August.
The graph below shows Chicago monthly home sales going back to 1997 with all the July values flagged in red and a light blue moving average line. Last month was up 2.7% from last year, though in two weeks the Illinois Association of Realtors will tell you it was only up 0.6% due to some flawed math. But we’re still operating at the lower end of the range over the last 8 years. Given how strong contract activity was in June I was actually surprised that July closings weren’t stronger also – but more on that later.
The moving average line (look closely) shows just how dramatically sales have been impacted by the Covid 19 retrenchment. Although the market is coming back I don’t think we will be able to fully make up for the losses this year.
Chicago home sales have been declining now for several years but the Coronavirus really tanked the market in May and June. July returned to more normal levels.
Chicago Home Contract Activity
July home contract activity was actually the big news because it was up 30.6% from last year, which is the biggest year over year increase in almost 8 years. Both condos and single family homes put in a strong showing but single family homes contributed more to this increase than condos. Given this activity, August – and maybe even September – closings should be much higher than last year.
Chicago home sale contract activity hit another record high for this time of year after plummeting to record lows because of Coronavirus issues.
Pending Home Sales
July’s huge increase in contract activity on top of June’s 14.4% increase haven’t yet flown through to closings. Consequently, July pending home sales have reached higher levels than 5 of the last 6 years. That’s an 828 unit increase over last year which is totally out of character with the long term downward trend we have been on. Eventually these pending deals will feed future closings which is why I expect big increases in August and even September closings.
After hitting historic lows the backlog of homes likely to close in the next 1 – 2 months has reached the highest levels in 4 years.
Distressed Home Sales
The percentage of Chicago home sales that are distressed somehow managed to eek out another decline to 3.3% from 4.7% a year ago. This was another record low despite the fact that we are approaching a limit to how low this percentage can go.
Since the housing crisis the percentage of home sales that are distressed has steadily declined.
Chicago Home Inventory
If you will recall I switched to my own measure of home inventory in order to more accurately reflect the dynamic Chicago real estate market conditions. My months of supply calculation is based upon each month’s contract activity instead of the annualized closings used in the standard MLS tools. As the real estate market normalizes I may be switching back to the standard tools for next month’s update.
Using my calculation I came up with a record low in detached inventory of only a 1.7 month supply. Attached inventory was lower than last year with a 3.6 month supply but we’ve seen lower than that in the past. These levels followed the huge spike that occurred in April when contract activity ground to a halt.
After a big Coronavirus induced spike in April the inventory of homes for sale dropped back down. Detached inventory hit a record low in July while attached inventory returned to normal levels.
Chicago Home Sale Market Times
The length of time that it took to sell a home in Chicago during July was largely unchanged from a year ago. Detached homes went under contract in an average of 70 days which is up from 68 days last July. Attached homes also took longer than last year, rising to 68 days from 64.
We can look to the median statistics for additional insight on how fast homes are selling. It’s interesting to note that the median market time for detached homes was actually down slightly to 27 days from 28 days last year but the median market time for attached homes was down a lot more. That fell from 31 days to 23 days.
So detached homes are taking about the same amount of time to sell as last year but half of attached homes are selling faster than last year. Since the average market time for attached homes is actually up from last year that means that the other half are essentially taking longer to go under contract. So stories of a hot Chicago real estate market are greatly exaggerated. If it were true all these properties would be going under contract a lot faster.
When the pandemic first hit Chicago market times rose but now they are close to being where they were last year.

Dismayed Hindus urge Illinois brewery to rename ‘Trishul’ beer and apologize

Below is a press release from Rajan Zed
Upset Hindus are urging Buffalo Grove (Illinois) based Prairie Krafts Brewing Company to apologize and rename/withdraw its “Trishul” beer; calling it highly inappropriate.
Hindu statesman Rajan Zed, in a statement in Nevada today, said that inappropriate usage of sacred Hindu symbols or concepts or deities or icons for commercial or other agenda was not okay as it hurt the devotees.
Zed, who is president of Universal Society of Hinduism, indicated that Trishul was an emblem of Lord Shiva and one of the principal divine symbols in Hinduism; and its three prongs denoted the powers of creation, preservation, destruction; and represented three gunas (fundamental principles of universe). Trishul found mention in ancient Hindu texts Puranas and goddess Durga also carried it.
Trishul, which devotees frequently set-up before worship in temples, home-shrines, etc.; should not be used for pushing beer. Moreover, linking Trishul with an alcoholic beverage was very disrespectful; Rajan Zed stated.
Breweries should not be in the business of religious appropriation, sacrilege, and ridiculing entire communities. It was deeply trivializing of divine Hindu symbol to be displayed on a beer can, Zed emphasized.
Hinduism was the oldest and third largest religion of the world with about 1.1 billion adherents and a rich philosophical thought and it should not be taken frivolously. Symbols of any faith, larger or smaller, should not be mishandled, Rajan Zed noted.
Trishul Pale Ale (5.6% ABV-50 IBU) is available in 12 fl oz cans and is described as “well balanced and solid”.

Anarchy clobbers Chicago. Had enough yet?
How long must Chicago tolerate this? Glass is shattered in the Nordstrom store at Wabash and Grand avenues after rioting and looting occurred in the Gold Coast. (Jose M. Osorio / Chicago Tribune)
Had enough yet of State’s Attorney Kim Foxx and her let-’em-loose corruption of the criminal justice system that has signaled that crime has no consequences?
Had enough yet of Cook County Chief Judge Timothy Evans’ complicity in fashionable lunacy that would empty the jails?
Had enough yet of the defund-the-police craziness? And of the blindness of left-wing ideologues who despite the evidence before their and our eyes claim that criminals are protestors, exercising their constitutional rights?
Had enough yet of woke blockheads who have to “address the root causes” before we allow the police to secure everyone’s safety?
If you’ve had enough of it, will enough Chicagoans and Illinoisans join you to reverse the disastrous far-left agenda that is the cause of the riots and violence that is striking not just Chicago, but some other American cities?
In her press conference this morning, Chicago Mayor Lori lightfoot, despite some earlier pandemic stumbles, spotlighted the stupidity that has lead to the chaos that endangers everyone’s liberty, security and peace of mind.
There is no justification for the looting and violence, she said, taking direct aim at the nihilism rationalizes the mob rule. The need to first “address the root causes,” the requirement that a “holistic approach” is necessary when everyone can’t wait around until nirvana blossoms.
The state’s attorney and courts need to step up to enforce the law, she said, taking a well-deserved shot at Foxx and Evans. This being Chicago where self-interest and ego reign, one has to wonder whether the duo will pay attention.
Moreover, she got down to one of the most important “root causes” of the mayhem: The failure of the communities most affected by the violence to cooperate by turning in the offenders.
Of course, we understand their fear. Going to the police is “ratting.” Retaliation is rampant in their neighborhoods. They don’t trust the police. They want to protect their families. But she’s right. Cooperation is key. “We can’t do it alone,” she said. We cannot let our city be “taken over by criminals and vigilantes.”
The unfounded rumor mill also must stop. The latest looting was sparked, according to top cop David Brown, when false rumors began spreading about a police shooting in Englewood. The 20-year-old shot at the pursuing police who returned fire. He was wounded, but a crowd that gathered later was told that the police had shot a child. Later, a caravan of looters was spotted heading up the Dan Ryan.
By their own admission, the police were overwhelmed, not to mention demoralized and overworked in 12-h0ur shifts. Of course, we’ll have to endure the usual complaints about “why didn’t someone do something?” Meaning, why did the police “let” this happen?
They need help. The Illinois National Guard needs to be present to quell this insurrection as certainly as they are when natural disaster strikes. This is worse than a natural disaster–this is a disease festering in the heart of the community. Gov. J.B. Pritzker is in charge of the National Guard; whether he has the courage to deploy it is highly doubtful. Even if Lightfoot wrongly fails to ask for the assistance.
Meanwhile, federal help also is required. No, not regular Army troops patrolling the streets, but with the kind of expert crime fighting techniques that will put alway the shooters and looters. And let us hear no more of the inevitable howls that President Donald Trump is responsible for inciting the violence.
So, the question remains: Have conditions plummeted so low that at last the community will rise up and finally cast off the destructive far-left handcuffs?

Say What?
How to Read an Audiogram

The results of a hearing test are usually plotted on a graph, otherwise known as an audiogram. The size of these graphs can vary but there are two measurements to look for. First are the softest sounds heard, and second, the clarity of speech.
The horizontal part of the graph represents pitch or frequency. Consider it as the keyboard of a piano with bass sounds on the left and treble sounds on the right. Male voices tend to be low pitched while female voices and birds are higher in pitch.
Following the graph up and down or vertically, represents volume. Soft sounds are on the top of the graph and very loud sounds on the bottom. Volume is measured in decibels. 0 decibels is normal. 110 decibels is not.

The o’s and x’s represent right (o) and left (x) ears. You may also see carat () marks or brackets ([ ]). All of these marks signify the softest sounds heard. There should be a key to explain this. When any of these symbols fall below 15-20 decibels, there will be recommendations for follow up or treatment.
On the audiogram there are boxes with numbers and percentages. The percentage is a measurement of clarity. It is obtained by repeating back words presented at a comfortable level. A perfect score is 100%.
We are always surprised that when we discuss findings, most patients tell us that no one ever took the time to explain their results. If you have questions about your evaluation, reach out to an Audiologist. We’ll be happy to help.
