A man has been charged with a fatal shooting in April in Pullman on the Far South Side.
Jawaunn Jackson, 22, is facing a felony count of first-degree murder, according to Chicago police.
Two people fired at 21-year-old Eugene Broach about 3:50 p.m. April 5 as he ran south in the 12000 block of South Lowe Avenue, police said. He was struck multiple times and taken to Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn, where he was pronounced dead.
Jackson was taken into custody Friday in the 10300 block of South King Drive, police said.

There’s been a lot of chatter about Chicago Bears 1st round pick Justin Fields. While we know he was nothing short of electric at Ohio State, Fields had a pro day and NFL workouts that have been even more enticing. I wanted to break down Justin’s ability in many facets of the quarterback position. I also want to add some insight as to where I see Fields in comparison to those who are playing the game currently and even those who have come before him.
The ChicagoBears have something special with Justin Fields of Ohio State.
Speed: Fields ran a 4.4 40 yard dash which ranked the fastest in his class among quarterbacks. Justin Fields has speed that compares to the league’s fastest dual-threat QB’s which puts him in a category all alone with names like Lamar Jackson and Kyler Murray. While those guys have lightning speed, they don’t have the physical ability that Fields has.
At 6’3 230 lbs, Bears fans have a lot to be excited about, Fields is an explosive runner who has the ability to evade pressure and scamper for game-breaking plays. Running a 4.4 40 makes fields one of the league’s biggest and most physical runners. I personally think Fields will run in-game speed up to par with similarities most familiar with Ryan Tannehill of the Tennessee Titans.
Size: He possesses size traits most similar to Dak Prescott. Prescott stands at 6’2 and weighs 225. Dak’s thick stature is in line with Fields making him an extremely tough task to bring down whether it’s in the backfield or downfield in the running game.
Arm Strength: In line with Field’s 6’3 frame, Justin possesses rocket arm ability. He has a tremendous amount of arm strength and can throw the ball on a laser into tight windows. He has generational arm strength that allows him to abuse the secondary in high low cover 3 reads as well as boundary throws before cover two safeties can get over the top.
With the mobility that Fields brings to the table, he’ll likely see a lot of cover 4 at the next level. His arm strength should allow him to fit the ball into tight quarters coverage. That will be fulfilling the route tree in scenarios where he’ll be asked to throw deep out routes as well as corners and into a linebacker or safety and handed off tight zone coverage up the seam. On tape, Justin Fields’ arm strength compares most to Justin Herbert of the Los Angeles Chargers.
Moxy/Footwork: Moxy is a trait in the quarterback position that cannot be taught. He has play extender tendencies like his ability to use Josh Allen-type footwork in the pocket. He is able to release from edge rushers which allows him to get outside and keep eyes open deep downfield. His slippery pocket presence and off-balance throwing outside the tackle box allow Fields to be the next Deshaun Watson in the moxy category of greats.
QB IQ: While most of the critics ahead of the 2021 draft knocked Fields for his football intelligence and inability to make pre/post-snap reads, it’s become very transparent that Fields isn’t buying into all of the criticism. Fields took the aptitude test along with other draftees and previous NFL superstars and scored off the charts.
While scoring has always come easy for Justin on the field, it’s also been pretty easy in the classroom as well. A score of 100 is considered a very good score and Fields posted a score of 130 showing that his brains are right where they need to be to succeed at the next level.
Fields, much like Big Ben, is an aggressive, decisive thrower who can challenge all three levels of coverage. Personally, the only thing I would like to see Fields accomplish is taking what the defense gives him with smart decision-making as opposed to always trying to take the home run type shot.
Toughness: Fields has shown time and time again how tough he truly is. I think this is partially the reason why so many people admire and respect his game. In the Big10 Championship, Fields took a ton of hits as it took the Buckeyes quite some time to really get the offense rolling.
Although they turned to featured back Trey Sermon, Fields scrambled on key downs and used his physicality to get the job done. Against Clemson in the Sugar Bowl, Fields was battle-tested beyond belief and took a major shot from Clemson standout linebacker James Skalski. The crushing blow broke the ribs of Fields in the third quarter.
Fields finished the game and stood tall in the pocket delivering some of the most impressive throws of his career. On two weeks’ rest, he faced Alabama in the National Championship. Justin has the play-hurt mentality of a legend before his time, Brett Favre.
Fields, a gunslinger who sits in the pocket with a pass-first mentality, is willing to take hits in order to deliver the ball downfield. As a Bear fan, I think the future is bright for the 11th pick out of Ohio State. He certainly has the mind, body, and skill to be a Sunday superstar.

The Chicago Bulls’ playoff chances look grim and this offseason will be important to round out the roster they started to create just before the trade deadline. Who will be left off next season’s roster?
The Chicago Bulls have some players that may be gone by the start of next season.
The Bulls vice president of operations Arturas Karnisovas and their general manager Marc Eversley have been working hard on this roster. They made two blockbuster trades the day of the trade deadline.
Notably, they acquired Eastern Conference all-star Nikola Vucevic and defensive big man Daniel Theis from the Boston Celtics. Both have been uber-productive for the Bulls since they joined the Bulls’ squad.
The Bulls, however, have yet to figure out how to win games with them. They lost their long-held 10th place in the Eastern Conference playoff picture and now sit in 12th place.
The Bulls are 26-39 on the season with seven games left to play. They sit four games behind the Washington Wizards, who currently hold the final spot in the play-in tournament.
According to Daniel Greenberg, the Bulls still have a 31.9 percent chance to snag the fourth pick in the next NBA draft, meaning they would retain the pick they traded to the Orlando Magic for Vucevic.
The Chicago Bulls are 13 games under .500.
Bulls have a 31.9% chance of getting a top 4 pick in the upcoming draft.
7 games left in the season. 4 games back from the 10th seed.
After missing the last 11 games, Zach LaVine is expected to return Thursday against the Hornets.
The bottom line is that the Bulls roster still needs help. They are still a below-average defense, ranking 18th in opponent points per game. Without Zach LaVine in the lineup, the Bulls have dropped down to the 21st ranked offense in the NBA. At one point, the Bulls were the fourth-ranked offense in the NBA, scoring 115.7 points per game by the end of January.
It’s difficult to describe the vastness of Chicago indie rock and punk without mentioning Great Deceivers, partly because of the four-piece’s pedigree. Guitarist Russell Harrison and bassist-vocalist Ben Rudolph play in unforgivingly ferocious hardcore unit C.H.E.W., while drummer Seth Engel makes delightfully solemn indie rock as Options and has been part of far too many other groups to list here.…Read More

The Chicago Blackhawks surprised some people in 2021 but they ultimately became who we thought they would. They were just eliminated from playoff contention earlier in the week so the future is not the biggest priority. The 2021 NHL Draft is going to happen eventually and that is going to be a big event for the ChicagoBlackhawks. Due to contract issues and the Seattle Kraken Expansion Draft, there might be some notable players that are gone by that point. These are the three players who will be gone by the draft:
44
Calvin de Haan
D, Chicago Blackhawks
Calvin de Haan very well could be gone before the Chicago Blackhawks return in the fall.
Calvin de Haan is a nice defenseman. He is good positionally but he isn’t someone who is going to be a part of the Hawks’ future. In fact, he is the best candidate to be selected by the Seattle Kraken in the 2021 Expansion Draft. We don’t know if the Blackhawks are going to make a trade with them for their pick but de Haan almost certainly will be involved. He is the most expendable defenseman on the team that also has a year left on the deal.
de Haan would be a perfect fit for the Kraken. They are going to be a team loaded with guys who were unprotected by their teams so some good leadership is always needed in those situations. Calvin de Haan has played for a few different teams in his NHL career so he knows what it is like to move around.
Playing for an expansion team is always different but it is also exciting. His 4.55 million dollar cap hit could provide help reaching the cap floor for Seattle and it could provide some tremendous relief for the Hawks. It is a perfect fit all around so if it happens, both sides will be happy.

The day’s most recent shooting wounded a 17-year-old boy in the 2300 block of West Garfield Boulevard.
Seven people were shot Tuesday in Chicago including a 17-year-old boy who was wounded in a shooting in Gage Park on the Southwest Side.
He was standing outside about 8:15 p.m. in the 2300 block of West Garfield Boulevard, when someone opened fire, striking him in the leg, Chicago police said. The teen took himself to Stroger Hospital, where he was listed in good condition.
Two people were wounded in a shooting in an apartment building in Park Manor on the South Side. The shooting happened about 5:50 p.m. in the Lafayette Plaza Housing Cooperative at 50 W. 71st St., according to police. A 37-year-old woman was standing in the lobby when she was shot in the chest by someone standing outside the building. She was taken to the University of Chicago Medical Center in critical condition. It wasn’t immediately known if she was the intended target. Shortly after, an 18-year-old man showed up to St. Bernard Hospital with abrasions suffered from the shooting. He was in good condition.
Minutes later prior, a 16-year-old boy was hurt in a shooting in Lawndale on the West Side. The teen was walking down the street about 5:45 p.m. in the 1800 block of South St. Louis Avenue, when he heard shots and felt pain, police said. He was struck in the shoulder and taken to Mt. Sinai Hospital in good condition.
At the same time a woman was wounded in a shooting in Gresham on the South Side. The 24-year-old was traveling in a vehicle about 5:45 p.m. in the 1400 block of West 79th Street, when another vehicle pulled in front of her and someone from inside fired shots, police said. She was shot in the side of the head and was transported in good condition to Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn.
A 21-year-old man was shot in Woodlawn on the South Side. He was traveling in a vehicle about 2:30 p.m. in the 6600 block of South Ingleside Avenue, when he heard shots and felt pain, police said. He was struck in the hip and took himself to Stroger Hospital, where his condition was stabilized.
In the day’s first reported shooting a 19-year-old man was shot in Woodlawn on the South Side. The man was shot in the hand and buttocks about 1:50 p.m. in the 6600 block of South Drexel Avenue, police said. He was taken to the University of Chicago Medical Center in good condition.

CINCINNATI — It was the White Sox’ first game after losing prized center fielder Luis Robert to a severe hip injury, and Dylan Cease gave them what they needed.
A fun night at Great American Ball Park.
After a seven-inning shutout against the Tigers in his previous start, Cease tied his career high with 11 strikeouts in six innings of one-hit ball in a 9-0 victory against the Reds.
As good as those numbers were, Cease’s performance at the plate was every bit as remarkable, if not more. Batting for the first time in a game since his senior year in high school, Cease went 3-for-3 with an infield single, a double to the right-field wall after showing bunt and a single to right before Yermin Mercedes pinch-hit for him in the seventh inning.
Cease (2-0, 2.37 ERA) became the second pitcher in baseball’s modern era to record 10 or more strikeouts, allow no more than one hit and also have three or more hits at the plate in a game. He was the first Sox pitcher since Tom Bradley in 1972 to get three hits and is the first American League pitcher to begin his career 3-for-3 since Boo Ferriss of the Red Sox did it in 1945.
“He actually pitched better than he hit, that’s kind of hard to believe,” manager Tony La Russa said.
Using reigning MVP Jose Abreu’s bat, Cease said he was more proud of the hitting accomplishment. He was hitting home runs during batting practice last week.
“I didn’t believe I was going to go out and do that today, but I believe in myself, to be honest with you,” Cease said.
Before the game, Abreu acknowledged the loss of Robert as “a very, very difficult moment for us as a team” and emphasized the importance of the team staying bonded as a unit.
A couple hours later, Abreu homered against right-hander Jeff Hoffman leading off the second for the first run, and Tim Anderson singled in two more.
Anderson singled in another run after Cease’s double, and Yoan Moncada singled in a run before Abreu (2-for-4, three RBI) drove in another with a sacrifice fly in a three-run fourth.
The Sox (16-12) won for the eighth time in 11 games. Anderson called the victory “huge.”
“Injuries are a big part of the game, and we understood the situation,” Anderson said. “But we had to keep pushing.”
Jose Ruiz pitched two innings and Alex McRae pitched the ninth to complete the Sox’ shutout.
Goodwin signed to minor deal
On the day Robert officially landed on the injured list, veteran outfielder Brian Goodwin was signed to a minor-league deal, a source confirmed.
The left-handed hitting Goodwin, 30, can play center field and is a career .250/.317/.455 hitter with 42 home runs and 22 stolen bases. Goodwin signed a minor-league deal with the Pirates in February and was released by the team 10 days ago.
The deal hasn’t been -announced.
Mendick recalled
Infielder Danny Mendick was recalled from Triple-A Charlotte, taking Robert’s spot on the roster. Robert is out for three to four months with a torn right hip flexor.
Eloy ‘feeling better’
Abreu has been talking to Eloy Jimenez (torn pectoral muscle) and said the left fielder is “feeling much better.”
“He’s in a good mood, a positive vibe and he has big faith that he’s going to come back this season,” Abreu said.
