Bears predictions: Week 15 vs. Vikings
The Sun-Times’ experts offer their picks for the game Monday night against the Vikings:
Rick Morrissey
Vikings, 30-20: The Bears had one good quarter last week against a Green Bay team that wanted to hand them the game on a special-teams platter. That’s not reason for optimism, as Bears coach Matt Nagy would want you to believe. That’s one more pratfall on a slippery slope full of them. Season: 11-2.
Rick Telander
Vikings, 28-25: The only way for the Bears to beat anybody is if the other team looks ahead, sees the game as a squirt-gun fight and leaves its bazookas at home. Not that the Vikings have much of an arsenal. But they’re the better sub-.500 team. The Bears meet their second consecutive anti-vaxxer quarterback in Kirk “If I die, I die” Cousins. Season: 10-3.
Patrick Finley
Bears, 20-19: Since Week 10, the Vikings have beaten two playoff-bound teams (the Chargers and Packers), lost to the winless Lions and defeated the Steelers by eight after leading by 29. I have no clue if they’re good. Throw in coronavirus concerns, and the wrong team could certainly win. Let’s get weird. Season: 11-2.
Jason Lieser
Vikings, 31-29: The Bears have been really good against the Vikings under Nagy, but everything is crumbling. The scariest part about Monday: The Vikings lead the NFL in sacks, and the Bears have allowed the second-most. Season: 11-2.
Mark Potash
Vikings, 24-17: The Bears are 5-1 against the Vikings under Nagy and haven’t given up on this season. But with injuries and COVID-19 issues this week, even their best effort could come up short against a desperate Vikings team. Season: 10-3.

Ticket stub from MJ’s debut sells for record $264Kon December 17, 2021 at 6:47 am
In the early hours of Friday morning, Michael Jordan posterized yet again — in the perpetually berserk world of sports cards and collectables.
The highest-graded ticket stub (bestowed with a grade of EX-MT 6 from Professional Sports Authenticator, or PSA) from Michael Jordan’s NBA debut sold for $264,000 at auction, breaking the record for most expensive collectable sports ticket ever sold.
More than 13,000 fans were in attendance to see Michael Jordan make his NBA debut against the Washington Bullets at the now-demolished Chicago Stadium on Oct. 26, 1984. Huggins & Scott Auctions
The sale, conducted by Huggins & Scott Auctions, includes a 20% buyer’s premium. Even without said premium, the sale still would have broken the previous record, set in October when a ticket stub from Game 3 of the 1903 (and first-ever) World Series sold for $175,000 at Christie’s.
Jordan made his NBA debut on Oct. 26, 1984, at the now-demolished Chicago Stadium. More than 13,000 were in attendance to see Jordan’s Bulls beat the Washington Bullets 109-93.
Jordan scored 16 points to go along with 6 rebounds and 7 assists. He also blocked four shots, the third most by a rookie in a team’s season opener all-time.
The stub is yet another item from Jordan’s rookie season that has cropped up recently. In late October, a pair of game-worn sneakers from Jordan’s rookie season sold at Sotheby’s for $1.472 million, which decimated the record for most expensive game-worn footwear, which had also been held by Jordan.

Woman urges top cop, Police Board to fire officer who grabbed her during lakefront altercation: ‘Is this somebody that you’re proud to call your brother?’
A Black woman who claims she was racially profiled when she was grabbed by a Chicago police officer during an altercation at North Avenue Beach earlier this year publicly called for his firing during Thursday’s meeting of the Chicago Police Board.
Nikkita Brown pleaded with those in attendance, including members of the police oversight panel and Supt. David Brown, to take swift action in discharging the officer who she claimed “viciously attacked” her late on Aug. 28 near the lakefront.
“This is something that has stayed with me,” she said. “This is something that has shaken me. This is something where I am fearful of walking outside my house.”
The Civilian Office of Police Accountability announced in late October that its findings and recommendations in the disciplinary case had been sent to Supt. Brown, whose 60-day deadline to respond is nearing. That timeline, however, could be extended another month.
COPA’s report and recommendations haven’t been made public, and it’s unclear whether the Police Board will be involved in the process. That would happen only if COPA and Supt. Brown disagree on discipline, or if the superintendent files charges to dismiss the officer.
A longtime Lincoln Park resident, Nikkita Brown was walking her dog by the lakefront when she began recording the interaction in a now-viral cellphone video.
The officer’s body-worn camera footage shows her holding her phone as he approaches, and the conversation quickly escalates to shouting after she asks the officer to “respect my space.” The officer then threatens to handcuff her for “trespassing” at the closed beach as she tells him to “back up” while moving away from him.
Eventually, the officer grabs at her phone, wrist and arm. She and the officer can then be seen struggling before she drops her phone and the officer’s camera appears to fall off. After roughly two minutes, the officer releases her and she asks him for his badge number as she walks away.
Nikkita Brown specifically referenced allegations about the officer’s background that have emerged in news reports by multiple media sources. The Sun-Times isn’t naming the officer because he isn’t officially accused of wrongdoing in the incident.
“Allowing [the officer] to remain on the force despite his history of misconduct and his videotaped attack on me will not only be an insult to the residents of the city, but it would be an insult to all men and women that actually perform their duties with professionalism and integrity,” she said.
“Is this somebody that you’re proud to call your brother, your colleague?” she later asked those in attendance.
Ghian Foreman, the president of the Police Board, then credited her “courage” but didn’t give others a chance to chime in.
“Normally I would ask the superintendent to respond, but since it’s open I’m gonna hold off on doing that right now.”
Memo: NBA, NBPA agree to increased testingon December 17, 2021 at 5:35 am
As the NBA tries to fortify itself against waves of positive COVID-19 cases in recent weeks, the league will increase daily testing and face mask use for players and staff through the holiday season, according to a memo obtained by ESPN.
The NBA and National Basketball Players Association agreed to elevate testing for two weeks starting on December 26. Players and staff will be tested on game days except for those who received their booster shot 14-plus days earlier or recently recovered from the virus, the memo said.

Players and staff will be required to wear masks on the benches, in the teams’ workout facilities and while traveling with the team, the memo said.
Fifty-two players, Indiana coach Rick Carlisle, Sacramento coach Alvin Gentry and Toronto vice-chairman and president Masai Ujiri have gone into health and safety protocols in December and there have been outbreaks on the Nets, Hornets, Bulls, Lakers and Kings.
Twenty-two players entered protocols on Wednesday and Thursday alone.
Vaccinated players were not required to get tested during the season, but an uptick in positive cases forced several teams to begin testing everyone and a spike in cases ensued. The NBA and NBPA are determined to continue the season without interruption, and sources say there’s been discussion among teams about finding easier ways to expand rosters amid COVID-19 outbreaks.
The Chicago Bulls had the only two NBA games cancelled this week — Tuesday against Detroit and Thursday against Toronto.
ESPN’s Baxter Holmes contributed to this report.

D-backs add Cubs’ McLeod in front office revampon December 17, 2021 at 2:28 am
PHOENIX — The Arizona Diamondbacks announced more than two dozen changes to their front office staff Thursday, including the addition of veteran baseball operations executive Jason McLeod.
McLeod’s title is Special Assistant to D-backs Executive Vice President & General Manager Mike Hazen.
McLeod has 26 years of baseball experience, including the past decade with the Chicago Cubs, where he helped build the 2016 World Series champion roster. He previously worked with Hazen and D-backs assistant GM Amiel Sawdaye when all three were with the Boston Red Sox.
McLeod will help Hazen try to rebuild the Diamondbacks, who had the second-worst record in franchise history in 2021. Arizona finished with a 52-110 mark.
The team’s other front office moves were a variety of promotions, role changes and new hires.

Cavs’ Okoro enters health and safety protocolson December 17, 2021 at 2:39 am
CLEVELAND — Cavaliers swingman Isaac Okoro entered the NBA’s health and safety protocols Thursday, the team said.
Okoro, who scored 23 points and delivered a highlight-reel dunk over three Houston players in Wednesday night’s win over the Rockets, will be out for an undetermined period.
The Cavaliers said his status will be updated “at the appropriate time.” Earlier this season, forwards Kevin Love and Lauri Markkanen were in the protocols.
One of the team’s best defensive players, the 20-year-old Okoro has scored at least 16 points in his last four games while helping the surprising Cavs reel off five straight wins and improve to 18-12.
The Cavs have been encouraged by Okoro’s development on the offensive end.
Cleveland plays at Milwaukee on Friday night.
