Beer Review: Duneyrr Fermenta Moderne Dune Invited Concept
Found a local beer shop that had a few brewers I had not tried before. The first of these to be reviewed. First of these was the Drekker Ectogasm IPA from North Dakota. The next one is a little complicated.
So first, a shout out to Leo’s Wines & Spirits in Woodridge for stocking some brands that aren’t being distributed to other stores. The beer, already:
Duneyrr Artisan Fermentis a new brewery that started up earlier this year at 2337 S. Michigan Ave., the former site of Motor Row Brewing (my video had me saying it was the former Vice District Brewing, which was nearby). Owner and brewer Tyler Davis focuses his main brand on beer-wine hybrids, or co-fermentation, along with spontaneously-fermented beers. Some more “traditional” beers are packaged under the Moderne Dune side-label, and that’s the one I picked up to try.
This is Invited Concept, listed as a Double Dry-Hopped Lager, with Citra and Cryo Loral hops–a citrussy hop style processed at low temperatures in a Nitrogen environment.
The beer pours a tall and foamy head over a very light, straw colored body with more haze than yellow.
The smell is hoppy, close to a Sierra Nevada, with big pine resin and a side of citrus; lemon or even some guava. So, yes, that hop nose is also right on the palate. Just kept from being overly bittered by some self-restraint, because there’s not enough malt to hold this in check. Paler and lower in maltiness than even an Old Milwaukee, but a bit dry. After about half the can I do feel some substance to the beer. Probably actually lightly hopped to match the light malts. A slightly different experiment. Lager process does offer up a dry finish.
Duneyrr shares their brewing space with Odious Cellars, another co-fermentation brewer with mostly barrel-aged beers, and Dutchbag Brew Co., specializing in farmhouse beers, primarily of Dutch styles.
