Bandleader Stanley Paul’s chic penthouse in Chicago, hosted society royalty, for sale
One of the chicest penthouses in the city is for sale now! If you know bandleader Stanley Paul, then you would not be one bit surprised at how very chic, elegant and charming his Old Town penthouse is.
He is the penultimate in style and, of course, his 2,000 square-foot home reflects this in every way. From the dramatic art deco entryway to the lavish, landscaped 1,000 square-foot outdoor space with killer city views, the space offers the very best in city living.
Stanley has been a fixture on Chicago’s social scene since the 1960s performing at the Pump Room for stars like Bette Davis, who once flicked ashes all over his piano keys (accidentally, of course, and Stanley didn’t mind).
During his 19 years in the home, he has raised so much for local charities by offering many popular live auction prizes that featured cocktails and hors d’oeuvres on his coveted terrace. He was a big supporter of his late, longtime friend Bunky Cushing and his “Handbags & Halos” luncheon that raised funds for the Howard Brown Health Center.
Some of his favorite visitors have included Tippi Hedren, Lynn Wyatt, Charlotte and Ann Ford and Judy Lewis (daughter of Clark Gable and Loretta Young). Another favorite, supermodel Carmen Dell’Orefice, sat beside him at the piano in his grand living room singing duets.
Stanley now spends most of his time in Palm Springs and, in Chicago, plans to move to a smaller space. The unit (2 bdrm/2 bath) is on the market for $1,050,000 and is being sold by his friend Jim Kinney of Baird & Warner. (See listing here) (Read Crains article by Dennis Rodkin here)
