The Chicago Blackhawks are looking at all options right now. There are a lot of things wrong with this team and it is going to be a while before they are in contention again. Even with guys like Patrick Kane and Jonathan Toews still there, it is clear that the rebuild is well underway.
Trading away these guys might be something for them to consider. Obviously, both would fit in well with different teams that are near the top of the NHL standings.
One of the teams for them to look at is the New Jersey Devils. They have two elite centers in Nico Hischier and Jack Hughes so they would never trade for Toews. However, they would love to see Kane on one of their top two lines to increase their forward depth.
At 19-4-0, they might be willing to make a deal like that at some point. The Hawks and Devils would have to deal with salary retention/cap space issues in addition to Kane’s no-move clause if it were to happen. These are three trades that might land Patrick Kane for the New Jersey Devils:
Patrick Kane would be a great fit with the New Jersey Devils right now.
The Chicago Blackhawks might only trade Kane if they got a high-level prospect in addition to some good draft picks.
You’d think that they land a first-round pick from a team for Kane no matter what. Getting a fifth for him in addition to the first would really be nice.
Alexander Holtz is a great young forward prospect that New Jersey drafted in the top ten of the 2020 NHL Draft. He would make a great addition to the Blackhawks’ young group of players that is close to being ready for a full-time role.
There is still some growth to go for Holtz but getting a prospect like him in a Kane trade would really help them. The Devils might be willing to part with him to get a winger like Kane in the mix to help this team try and take another step. They could also then work with Kane on an extension.
