3 Mantras To Help You Stop Rushing The Process Of Success
Does it ever feel like you’re rushing through life? I know I’ve always been one to anticipate the next phase. I couldn’t wait to move away to college. Then, I was ready to graduate and find a job. No matter where I am in life, I’m always wondering about what’s next. Can you relate?
If you’re guilty of comparing yourself to others and living with only the finish line in mind, I’ve put together a few mantras for when you need a reminder to live life in the here and now and stop rushing the process of success.
IT’S OK TO GO AT MY OWN PACE
Do you remember the story about the tortoise and the hare? The hare seemed like the clear winner, but the tortoise’s persistence took him to the finish line first. Success isn’t about how fast you move, it’s about staying true to your capabilities and doing the absolute best you can.
MY SUCCESSES ARE MY OWN
President Theodore Roosevelt once said, ”comparison is the thief of joy.” Isn’t that the truth? How many times have you looked at the lives of friends, family members, and even celebrities and thought how much better their lives are than yours? Have you ever stopped to think about your definition of success? Is it owning your own business? Having a loving marriage? Being a good parent? Write down your definitions of success to avoid unwarranted comparisons.
EVERYDAY IS AN OPPORTUNITY TO LEARN
Some of the greatest CEOs began at the bottom of the ladder. Mary T. Barra, CEO of General Motors, began on the assembly line, and a teenage Doug McMillon loaded trucks at a Wal-Mart distribution center for $6.50/hour before climbing the ranks to become CEO. Look at every task and position as an opportunity to grow and gain insight that may help you later.
Shortcuts may seem tempting, but the long road will give you the wisdom you need. I believe you have the capacity to be an incredibly successful person. Take a deep breath. Set your goals. And enjoy every step of the way!
