This past weekend, the Chicago Bears went an unforeseen route in the 2022 NFL Draft. First-year general manager Ryan Poles truly stuck to his strategy, much to many fans’ dismay.

However, Poles’ strategy could pay off in the long run. By going best player available and taking phenomenal value, he’s setting the Bears up with as many good football players as he can, regardless of position.

After drafting Kyler Gordon and Jaquan Brisker in the second round, Poles did indeed go wide receiver in the third, drafting Tennessee wide receiver Velus Jones Jr. While Jones wasn’t the prototypical receiver that fans wanted, he will surely make an impact.

Even after drafting Jones, though, the Bears could have used another rookie wideout, but Poles decided not to go that direction.

Wide receiver is a position the Chicago Bears could still address via free agency.

Currently, the Bears’ top four options at wideout are Darnell Mooney, Velus Jones Jr., Byron Pringle and Equanimeous St. Brown. The first three are fine options, but beyond Pringle, the Bears need help.

St. Brown has not been anywhere near a viable option over his young career, and the Bears still have to fill out a respectable depth chart. So, they must turn to free agency — or what’s left of it.

The Bears likely won’t land a name like Odell Beckham Jr., and even if he was interested, the Bears wouldn’t get him on the field until late in the year due to his ACL tear in the Super Bowl. So, beyond Beckham, there are a few key names the Bears could go after, and they would likely come at a decent price — if not a bargain.
