JUST SAYIN
PATIENCE/ A Virtue worth having/ BUT Decades of Patience?/ Where do we draw the line/ Fighting Murder with Patience

We were always taught at a very early age that PATIENCE was a VIRTUE. Indeed there are times when patience is a noble gesture. Knee jerk reactions are often accompanied by regrettable results more times than not. So it was of great interest to me that Chicago’s Top Cop has asked for patience while his so-called Community Policing on Steroids takes effect. I selected a quote from Helen Keller, certainly a person who knew a thing or two.

Make no mistake, after working Chicago’s streets for over 33 years, I know for a fact that we need to connect with the community if we are ever going to solve Chicago’s horrendous violence problems for future generations to come. However, there are times when patience can be a hindrance, and I believe we all have to look at the number of endless killings and shootings Chicago is enduring. Children are being shot down at an alarming rate and placing patience over direct action against vicious gang killers is just going to place more innocent lives in jeopardy.

Chicago’s gangs are a powerful force. Asking for patience might come off to some as just another excuse. We all have been so used to hearing, for so many years, from clueless politicians who seem overwhelmed and indeed even paralyzed at what to do about the amount of violence the City faces. That fix we have been hearing about just hasn’t materialized in any way shape or form. “The FIX HASN’T BEEN IN!” FOR SURE. Imagine killers who don’t hesitate to shoot babies, toddlers, and young teens, who have demonstrated over and over again that they are not the least bit interested in participating and growing with the Communities they terrorize on a daily basis. While the Police Departments Top Cop asks the people of Chicago for patience, more lives will be lost to this seemingly unending slaughter.
A few weeks back, President Trump offered to have Federal Agents sit down for a conference with Chicago’s leaders and try and work out a plan to solve the violence the problem. He was immediately shot down by the Mayor. She said he was playing politics. Just yesterday, the President again called out the Mayor and threatened to do something on the Federal level if something wasn’t done. He mentioned the slaughter of Children and stated that Chicago was more dangerous than Afghanistan. On both occasions, she claimed Trump, whom she obviously loathes, of playing politics. Regardless of what anyone thinks of Trump, was it wise to turn down Federal help? Is calling the attention of children being murdered in an American city playing politics? Some folks would wonder just WHO is playing POLITICS.

Politics aside, some very serious questions have to be asked. Does Chicago need outside help immediately; does this so-called patience have an end game? While the Police Departments Top Cop is asking for patience, rest assured many more lives will be lost to the seemingly never-ending cycle of violence. Do Chicago’s cops need immediate outside help? Do Chicago’s cops need the help of Federal Agents, Federal Charges, Federal Courts, Federal sentencing by Federal Judges? Remember it was that very same partnership that brought down the Mafia in America. I for one, truly believe they can and would make a difference in the fight against Chicago’s warring street gangs. It is estimated that 1/3 of all Chicago’s shooting victims ARE NOT THE INTENDED TARGETS, which means innocent children and many others will continue to become victims and simply cannot be saved by PATIENCE. The gangs are there NOW, the guns are there NOW. Community Policing is the future, a strong aggressive response to the out of control gang wars are needed IMMEDIATELY.
