Mekhi Phifer Speaks On Truth Be Told Season 2
The highly anticipated second season of the anthology drama series, Truth Be Told, premiered globally Friday, August 20, 2021 on Apple TV+. The show is starring and executive produced by Academy Award-winner Octavia Spencer. Academy Award-nominee Kate Hudson also stars in her first lead role on a television series. Truth Be Told provides a glimpse into America’s obsession with true crime podcasts.
This season also follows Octavia Spencer as podcaster Poppy Parnell, who risks everything—including her life—to pursue truth and justice. Poppy dives into a new case that deeply involves her childhood friend, media mogul Micah Keith (Hudson). As developments unfold, their lifelong friendship is put to the ultimate test. In addition to Hudson, joining the sophomore season is returning cast mate Mekhi Phifer.
Mekhi Phifer has captured the attention of critics and audiences alike with performances that cross all cinematic genres. Perhaps best known to television audiences for his portrayal of Dr. Gregory Pratt on the long-running NBC series “ER,” for which he received two NAACP Image Awards for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Drama Series, he is also recognized for his memorable portrayal of Future in the iconic film, “8 Mile.”
Born and raised in New York, Phifer’s acting career began when he auditioned and was selected for the leading role in Spike Lee’s “Clockers,” working alongside Harvey Keitel, John Turturro and Delroy Lindo. He garnered critical acclaim for his compelling performance as Strike, a young New Jersey drug dealer involved in a murder cover-up.
On television, Phifer appeared opposite Laurence Fishburne and Forest Whitaker in the History Channel’s mini-series “Roots.” Other TV credits include starring roles in the series “House of Lies,” “Torchwood,” “Lie to Me,” the Australian TV series “Secret City” and the CW series “Frequency,” as well as a notable guest starring role in “Chicago PD.” Phifer appeared opposite Beyonce Knowles in MTV’s highly rated film “Carmen: A Hip-Hopera,” for which he did his own rap work. He also appeared with Don Cheadle and the late Cicely Tyson in the Emmy Award-winning HBO Original movie, “A Lesson Before Dying.”
Additional film credits include the titular role of “O,” in which he starred opposite Julia Stiles; “Paid in Full,” “Ruthless,” “Soul Food,” “I Still Know What You Did Last Summer,” “Hell’s Kitchen,” “NYC” and “An Invited Guest.”
Phifer sat down with Just N/Chicago Now for a brief chat about the new season of TBT.
