The Chicago Blackhawks are set to play the Montreal Canadiens tonight. They are on a two-game winning streak after defeating both the Vegas Golden Knights and Columbus Blue Jackets. That came after a very embarrassing loss to the Arizona Coyotes who are one of the two worst teams in the National Hockey League.

The team competing with the Coyotes for that distinction of the worst is the Montreal Canadiens. Ironically, as mentioned before, the Habs are in Chicago to take on the Hawks. Chicago is better than them in every way right now but they have to go out there and prove it.

Unfortunately, with a record of 13-16-5, they sit 10 points out of a playoff spot in the Western Conference. They have no chance of making it to the postseason this year. They are going to sell off any unrestricted free agents and continue to build toward the future.

Speaking of the future, their top prospect Lulas Reichel is very promising. He was selected by the Hawks with the 17th pick of the first round in the 2020 NHL Draft. Playing with the Rockford Ice Hogs this season, he has 11 goals and 9 assists for 20 points in 20 games.

Lukas Reichel is going to be a great player for the Chicago Blackhawks.

It is very hard to be a point per game player in the AHL just like it is in the NHL. For Reichel, it is even more impressive because of the fact that he is still 19 years old and won’t turn 20 until May. He has a very bright future if he keeps up this trajectory.

The Blackhawks confirmed that he has been called up from the Rockford Ice Hogs. He is going to make his NHL debut tonight against the Montreal Canadiens. They didn’t call him up to use him in a depth role or have him sitting on the Taxi Squad for longer than a day.

This is an exciting moment for Reichel and for Blackhawks fans. However, don’t expect him to stick with the team for very long. It would be pointless to burn an entire year of his NHL entry-level deal. After nine games, letting him get to ten would be a waste. This team isn’t going anywhere and it would be better to retain him for as long as they can.

The Blackhawks are in trouble as the future doesn’t appear to be as bright as some may think. With that said, there are some really good young players to consider a part of the future core. The Blackhawks want Reichel to be a part of that. We can only hope that he is.
