Here’s the scoop on Jeni’s Splendid Ice Cream’s exclusive State Fair collection

State Fairs have been a rite of summer in America since the early 1900’s. The family centric festivals normally held in mid to late summer are a way to celebrate the state, agriculture and tradition.
A highlight for many are the crazy food offerings, unique to each state, from Deep-fried Kool-aid(Georgia) and Deep-fried Bubblegum (New Jersey) to Wisconsin’s iconic Cheese Curds and, of course, anything on a stick.
With most state fairs canceled in 2020, Jeni’s Splendid Ice Cream has come to the rescue with a unique “State Fair Collection.”
The State Fair Collection, available exclusively through Foxtrot, is exactly what it sounds like: a taste of summer laced with the nostalgic of the past.
The flavors in the collection include:
- Orange Blossom Buttermilk
- Atlantic Beach Pie
- Sun-Popped Corn
- Watermelon Taffy
- Wildberry Lavender
Each of the original flavors offer a refreshing sun-kissed vibe and pay homage to past traditions.
They can be enjoyed individually or they combine beautifully for a special presentation.
Serve them for dessert after dinner or have them as an anytime treat along with a glass of lemonade, iced tea or a summer wine such as a Rosé or a Prosecco.
The watercolor palette of the collection screams summer.
Pairings
Atlantic Beach Pie
The sweet cream, tart lemon, and salty toasted cracker gravel of the Atlantic Beach Pie makes the perfect dessert for a seafood dinner.
Orange Blossom Chiffon
The tart buttermilk, fresh yogurt with the aroma of orange flowers and tangerine of the Orange Blossom Chiffon provides the ideal finish to a Southern Fried chicken entree–at the beach, a picnic or at home.
Sun-popped Corn
You’ll totally taste nuances of the large-kernel popcorn blended with cream and grass-grazed milk in Jeni’s Sun-popped Corn. I can definitely see this working with some bratwurst on the grill that has been marinated in beer and onions.
Watermelon Taffy
The uber creamy, tart candied combination of Jeni’s Watermelon Taffy is a natural with a traditional summer dinner of burgers, guacamole, chips and corn on the cob.
Wildberry Lavender
Perhaps, my favorite of the collection, is the Wildberry Lavender. Its intense fruity, brambly berry flavor with a pop of sweet orange and lavender is the essence of summer. I would love to finish a dinner of pulled pork, fries and fennel with a large bowl of this
