Cubs vs Reds Series Preview: (9/8-9/10)
The Cubs veered close to disaster against the rival Cardinals last weekend. They were in danger of dropping four of five and having their division lead shrink to just half a game. Luckily, Kyle Hendricks tossed a gem Monday to earn a huge win.
Other than the red-hot Ian Happ, Chicago’s big bats continue to scuffle. The back end of the rotation is a big issue, but Adbert Alzolay is finally getting a shot to start. The Cubs now welcome the Reds for three games starting Tuesday.
Cincinnati have continued to disappoint with an 18-23 record, yet are just 2.5 games out of a playoff spot. Trevor Bauer and Sonny Gray continue to shine, while the bullpen struggles. The offense is dangerous at times and flat others.
The Cubs have a chance to bury the Reds this series. More importantly, they have a chance to just play better in general. Hopefully they can.
