The Chicago Blackhawks knew how good and important Pa1trick Sharp was to their organization. With that said, the Hall of Fame is not in his reach.

There is some debate on Chicago Blackhawks Twitter regarding one of the most interesting players in the history of the team. Patrick Sharp was a great player for a very long time and the best years of his career were in a Blackhawks’ sweater. He was a very important member of a team that won a lot of hockey games and even three Stanley Cups but he is not a Hall of Fame player.

There are a lot of Blackhawks fans that wear rose-colored glasses when it comes to the Hall of Fame. Marian Hossa just got in and that has some people thinking that every player that was a part of the three Stanley Cup teams is going to be in the Hall. That is just not true. In order to go into the Hall of Fame, you need a lot more than just Stanley Cups. Nicklas Hjalmarsson and Patrick Sharp are the two that played on every Cup team that is locked to not be in the Hall of Fame.

Sharp didn’t even score 300 career goals when most Hall of Famers have 500 or more. This makes it sound disrespectful to Sharp’s career but it is not. He had a great career but he isn’t a Hall of Fame player. He had 287 career goals and 333 career assists for 620 points. Those are nice totals for a guy who led the depth on this team but that isn’t enough points and 939 games played certainly aren’t enough games played in the league.

Sharp was a great player but he isn’t going to the Hall of Fame. He is going to be remembered as one of the best Blackhawks players of all time and they may even retire his number ten one day. With that said, he is just in a separate tier from guys like Hossa, Jonathan Toews, Patrick Kane, and Duncan Keith.

Instead of arguing over Sharp’s Hall of Fame status, people should just remember that he was a great player for them during the best years in franchise history. It isn’t any fun to sit there and talk about why he’s not getting in. It makes it sound like we don’t think he had a wonderful career but that just isn’t true. If Jeremy Roenick still isn’t in the Hall of Fame with his 500+ goals and 1200 plus points, Sharp is a long way off.
