Jordan excited to ‘get easy baskets’ with Hardenon March 7, 2022 at 9:59 pm

CAMDEN, N.J. — DeAndre Jordan said he was excited about the prospect of reuniting with James Harden on the Philadelphia 76ers, saying he’s better at setting up easy baskets than anyone in the NBA.

“I mean, for a big, or anybody trying to get easy baskets, he’s the best guy to play with,” Jordan said Monday morning after Philadelphia’s shootaround prior to Monday night’s game against the Chicago Bulls in his first public comments since joining the team last week. “He’s so unselfish when it comes to passing and getting guys open and getting other guys going because he can get himself going at any point in time.”

Harden is one of several reunions for Jordan with the 76ers. The 33-year-old center, now playing for his fourth NBA team, spent several years with 76ers coach Doc Rivers with the LA Clippers — where he also played with forward Tobias Harris — and played last season with Harden on the Brooklyn Nets.

Jordan started 19 games for the Los Angeles Lakers this season before falling out of the rotation and eventually being released before last week’s March 1 deadline for players to be eligible to play on another team’s postseason roster. That familiarity — plus Philadelphia’s need for a backup center after sending Andre Drummond to Brooklyn in the Harden trade — made the choice of joining the 76ers an easy one.

“There were other situations, but I’m familiar with Doc, I was with him for years,” Jordan said. “James, Tobias, and Joel and I are cool. And, yeah, with Andre leaving, they needed another backup center, so it was mutual.”

Jordan signed with Philadelphia on Friday and joined the 76ers in Miami for Saturday’s loss to the East-leading Miami Heat. He said he got a chance to get some workouts in and that it was good to see the team in person and get a feel for how they want to play.

He added that he spent time watching Philadelphia’s second unit — both before and after the Harden trade — to get a sense of how the unit would play and that he was excited about how he could fit in with it moving forward.

“Just bring energy,” Jordan said of his role in Philly. “Our second unit, I feel like, plays fast, and we’ve got some shooters on the floor, and I was going back and watching some clips of their second unit before they made trades and even with James, so for me, just setting picks with those guys, being able to space the floor and James being able to create, playmake for himself, for everybody else.

“So long as I’m setting screens, rolling hard, rebounding the basketball and having some defensive intensity on the floor, our unit should be OK.”

When asked how much he thought he could play right away, Jordan said jokingly that he’s “only 33 … in the real world, that’s not very old at all,” and added that his body feels great. After beginning the season as a regular starter and member of the Lakers’ rotation, Jordan has played in only five games since Christmas — and for a total of about 52 minutes.

He said that joining the 76ers was an opportunity to both reunite with familiar faces, play more and “have a chance to go further in the postseason” than he would’ve in Los Angeles.

“I enjoyed my time there for sure,” Jordan said of the Lakers. “Obviously, this was an opportunity where I was … I’m familiar with Doc, you know what I mean? So it was a chance to come here and play a little more and have a chance to go further in the postseason. I do think those guys are going to have some success late, but this was the best opportunity, I felt like, for me.”

Wadjet Eye’s sci-fi adventure Primordia now out on Switch!

Wadjet Eye’s sci-fi adventure Primordia now out on Switch!

Humanity is gone and androids and robots are the only ones left. Some believe the great humans are their creators, and others believe they created each other. Horatio and his little robot friend Crispin are just living their lives when their power core is stolen by a destructor robot from the city. Horatio and sarcastic Crispin now have to get the core back or they will no longer be able to charge up, and are forced to go on an adventure that will change them forever.

Wormwood Studios and Wadjet Eye Games’ Primordia is a point and click adventure game that was previously released on PC and is now available on Switch! It take place many years in the future where technology has taken over and humans are gone. Computers have become sentient beings and are not living closely how humans have lived. You play as the cynical android Horatio who built a small floating robot Cripsin who is super sarcastic and basically the comic relief of the game. In typical P&C fashion, you will be finding and using objects that will help you solve puzzles.

Primordia is a bit dark but interesting sci-fi story. There are lots of places to explore and robots to interact with. The story also has a bit of a religious undertone since some believed in the humans, and some didn’t.

As you play Primordia, you will be solving tons of puzzles. Some puzzles have multiple solutions and some are cut and dry so try out different things and don’t worry about screwing up because you really can’t. For example, there is a point in the game where a robot will ask you questions, if you get them correct you get the prize, if you get them wrong, you have to do a fetch quest to get the prize, but either way you get the prize. Primordia also has multiple endings, but the endings are not affected by what you do during the game, but rather what you do on the final puzzle, so save beforehand and experiment! Also if you get stuck, Crispin does give clues but they are not always helpful.

So how is the Switch version different then the PC? The game itself is the same, the only difference is the controls and the fact that it is now on a console! The nice thing about playing it on the Switch is that you can either move the joystick around to find everything, or just use the D pad to move between objects. You can even hit a button to see all the clickable objects on the screen.

The puzzles can be difficult, and the multiple solutions are both cool and confusing…such as leaving you wondering “well why did I never use this? Why did this aspect look important yet never come into play?” One the other hand, It gives reason for multiple playthroughs so there’s that.

I must say I absolutely loved Primordia and it was much more enjoyable on the Switch since the controls were nice and I can play it on my TV! The puzzles were hard but logical (for the most part) And Cedric is just delightful! I give it four and half baby dragons

Primordia is now available on Steam and Nintendo Switch for $14.99. More information is available here https://www.nintendo.com/store/products/primordia-switch/. Now get out there and find that power core!

Three Actors Who Were Just Too Old For Their Roles

Three Actors Who Were Just Too Old For Their Roles

Actors too old for their roles could be a list with hundreds of names, but I wanted to focus on three specific examples where the actor’s age destroyed any chance the film had at being good. Even if everything else was perfect with these three films it wouldn’t have mattered because the person in the leading role is just too distracting. So you’re not going to see something like Mean Girls or Grease on this list.

Check out the video above for the full breakdown with plenty of clips of fully grown men pretending to be children. All three of these films could have worked if it weren’t for the lead role being twice the age of the character they’re playing.

This new report makes Tom Ricketts look even worseVincent Pariseon March 7, 2022 at 5:30 pm

No Major League Baseball owner looks particularly good right now. The lockout is currently closing in on 100 days with no signs of ending. Every single one of them should be ashamed of themselves for allowing this to happen. However, a new report makes Chicago Cubs owner Tom Ricketts look even worse.

We all remember when Mr. Ricketts cried poor during the heart of the pandemic, calling the lost revenue “biblical losses”. Yes, someone worth multiple billions of dollars made statements like that about money. It was very offputting.

Now, despite being such a victim of the pandemic financially, the Ricketts family is looking to buy Chelsea FC. That isn’t going to be a cheap investment. Of course, it could lead to a lot of money down the road but it isn’t necessarily something that someone suffering from biblical losses tries to do.

Let’s be clear, there is nothing wrong with anyone buying things they can afford as long as they are good people. English Premier League soccer is awesome and someone like Tom Ricketts could help people realize that. It is just hard to respect his words when the timeline looks as it does.

The Chicago Cubs need to see Tom Ricketts spending money on them too.

It has also affected the Cubs on the field. They decided to trade away multiple superstars, including a few that helped them win the World Series in 2016, because of the fact that they didn’t want to pay them what they are worth on the market. It was just not a good look at all.

It is possible for Ricketts and the Cubs to redeem themselves. They could prove that the reason that they traded those guys away was that they haven’t won anything since the World Series in 2016. Something did seem broken with the offense at the end.

They could also go out and spend once the lockout ends. There are some big-time free agents still out there that might see the Cubs as a good team to sign with. They aren’t a playoff lock by any means but if they expand the postseason, it is certainly possible.

All in all, this report makes the Ricketts family sound like liars when it comes to their financial losses. It also won’t be a problem as long as he continues to run the Cubs the right way that gives them a chance to win. Both of those possibilities can be true. Hopefully, for the sake of Cubs fans, landing the purchase of Chelsea won’t hurt the baseball side of things.

How will history judge America’s failure to halt the Russian/Putin genocide in Ukraine?

How will history judge America’s failure to halt the Russian/Putin genocide in Ukraine?

Aftermath of a rocket attack in Kyiv

Better yet, how do we justify our own moral bankruptcy?

Our test is at hand.

Genocide is not too strong of word to describe Russian lunatic Vladimir Putin’s inhuman, brutal and savage attacks on the Ukrainian people. Nor is moral bankruptcy unwarranted hyperbole when it comes to America and Europe turning their backs on the war being waged on innocent civilians.

Thousands have died as Russian forces intentionally bomb homes and apartment buildings. Despite a supposed cease-fire, a mortar barrage killed civilians trying to cross a bridge to flee to safety. Supposed “corridors to safety” to allow civilians to escape to neighboring countries have been closed by direct shelling, Russian troops, in a siege, have shut off water, heat and electricity. The New York Times reports that “thousands could die” in “escalating Russian attacks.”

Evan a captured Russian officer called it genocide. He said that Russian troops hadn’t realized the true nature of their mission; they believed they were going to fight Nazis. He asked for forgiveness.

Exhumed mass grave of Srebrenica massacre victims in 2007

This is slaughter, pure and simple.

And yet, Putin marches on, freezing America, NATO and the European Union in place by threats of nuclear war. Coming from a madman who has lost his marbles, the threat must not be taken lightly. Most nations haven’t , and Putin, singlehandedly and extraordinarily has held an entire continent if not the world at bay. As world that cowers in fear of the possible.

Putin’s war crimes cannot be left standing. If so, any nuclear power (despotic China and possibly Iran, for example) can take over any state they choose. And everyone will do nothing.

So, what is to be done?

Show some cahonies.

Don’t keep telling Putin what we’re not going to do, as we’ve done. Jeez, let him guess, as he’s making us guess. At the least, stop imported Russian crude oil. Shut off all the Russian banks, not just a few. For some inexplicable reason, the Biden administration has left open loopholes in the sanctions. Stop tap dancing around the defeat of democratic principles.

Shut down the skies over Ukraine to Russia. Release those MIGS in Poland for Ukrainian airmen to fly. Deploy “Iron Dome,” the mobile all-weather air defense system deployed in Israel that destroys short-range rockets and artillery shells fired from as 43 miles. The Counter-Rocket, Artillery, Mortar (C-RAM) Intercept Land-based Phalanx Weapon System (LPWS) can counter incoming rockets, artillery shells and mortar fire. Not being a expert, I’m guessing that other defensive systems are available.

The Counter-Rocket, Artillery, Mortar (C-RAM) Intercept Land-based Phalanx Weapon System (LPWS) (U.S. Army)

Where’s the private sector? Hey, journalists, is anyone bothering to ask? Northrop Grumman says on its web page:

“For decades, Northrop Grumman has protected U.S. forces and our allies by designing, developing and delivering weapons of increasing complexity and capabilities for expanded missions and domains. We continue to build upon that legacy to pioneer weapons that consistently outmatch the range, speed, precision and firepower of fielded enemy weapon systems, with the parameters of current platforms in mind.

Is there anything in production that can be useful? One hopes.

Clandestine operations ought to be deployed. (If they’re not already, it’s unforgivable.) There’s too much talk about a “resistance” after Russia adsorbs Ukraine. No waiting around; resistance already should be underway. Perhaps it is, and we’re not hearing about it, as we shouldn’t.

Flood Russia with anti-Putin propaganda. Too many Russians buy into the lie that their country is driving out Nazi forces. RadioFreeEurope/Radio Liberty have been forced to close its Moscow bureau by Putin’s threat of 15 years for spreading “false information” that challenges the charade. Flood Russia with the truth; Russians must be made to understand that Putin has threatened to bring on thermonuclear war. The possibility is scaring the crab out of us; Russians deserve to be similarly frightened. Maybe they’ be frightened enough to do something about the madman running their country.

Putin has “tactical” nuclear weapons that can be used on the battlefield. If he does, if he escalates the war, the response must be swift, commensurate and unambiguous.

Putin must be stopped, NOW. The consequences of allowing him to absorb Ukraine are much too great. A victory of autocracy over democracy. There have been too many lately, giving autocrats evidence that their system of governance is superior. If it comes to that, the United States can no longer pretend this is a limited, regional war.

It’s delicate. I recommend  David Leonhardts’ “Preventing This War: What might have done it?” in the New York Times. It’s an intelligent discussion that reviews our actions and non-actions that might have stopped this bloodbath and what paths are ahead,

History is replete with genocides: the Armenian genocide, the Assyrian genocide, the Greek genocide, and the Great Famine of Mount Lebanon,] The Holocaust. Millions killed in Cambodia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Rwanda and Darfur.

From high on the mountain of hindsight, we clearly see that these atrocities should have been stopped in their tracks. What, we wonder, stopped anyone from doing it? How could anyone with any sense of compassion and justice allow that to happen? Didn’t they have a moral obligation? History condemns them.

Our test is at hand.

Patrick Kane is on fire for the Chicago Blackhawks right nowVincent Pariseon March 7, 2022 at 4:24 pm

The Chicago Blackhawks are not a very good team right now but they have seen a few of their players have massive success. Patrick Kane is one of those players yet again for Chicago. It is unclear what his long-term future in the league is at this point as he only has 2022-23 left on his deal but he has been outstanding in 2021-22.

So far, Kane has 18 goals and 40 assists for 58 points in 53 games played. He is over a point per game yet again and remains one of the best players in the league. His goal totals are down from previous years just a tad but other than that he is on all of his typical paces.

It is notable that he is on fire as of late. Of course, he has been good all season long with a point total like that but things have been extra good for him lately. Kane has six goals in his last six games with five assists tacked on.

The Blackhawks were blown out by the Tampa Bay Lightning on Sunday night but they are one of the best teams in the league. Kane, however, scored or assisted on two of Chicago’s three goals in the 6-3 loss.

He also had numerous chances that were stopped by Tampa Bay goalie Andrei Vasilevskiy. It took the best goalie in the world to keep Kane from having more than two points in the contest. There were some outstanding saves made that kept Tampa in it before they pulled away.

The day before, the Hawks were playing against a significantly worse Flyers team and still managed to lose. Kane, however, was able to have an assist to add to his totals. He is even producing in games that would be considered a disaster for his team overall.

Patrick Kane has been magnificent for the Chicago Blackhawks lately.

With Kane playing just a little bit better over the last six games, which is saying something because he was great before that too, it almost makes you feel bad for him on a professional level. This team is horrible and wasting another outstanding year from their all-time greatest player.

Stan Bowman is gone but he should still be ashamed of himself for allowing this team to fall off a cliff like that. Hopefully, Patrick Kane is able to have some team success as he moves into the latter stages of his career because he has been so good for so long.

Chicago Real Estate Market Update: February Sets A 17 Year Sales Record

Chicago Real Estate Market Update: February Sets A 17 Year Sales Record

Chicago homes are selling faster than hotcakes

The Chicago real estate market keeps setting new records even when I think it’s not possible. Last month I thought I saw early evidence that the sales strength was weakening a bit. However, February Chicago home sales were up 15.4% over last year, which was already a multi-year record. So, comparing the numbers to 2020, which was basically pre-pandemic, sales were up 25.4%, which is a huge number. It was the highest sales level in 17 years.

You can see this in the monthly sales graph below which flags all the February numbers in red and also has a green moving average line. The increase was driven by increases in both attached and detached home sales but detached home sales were the stronger of the two.

Note that when the Illinois Association of Realtors reports these results in a couple of weeks they will only report a 13.1% increase due to their methodology.

Chicago home sales had been declining now for several years but the Coronavirus really tanked the market in May and June of 2020. The market returned to more normal levels starting in July 2020 and is now setting new records.

Once again the contract numbers look weak compared to last year, down 8.9%. But if you look at the graph below you’ll see that February beat all other years. In particular, contracts written last month were 12.8% higher than in 2020.

Nevertheless, given the decline in contracts written, I would expect a softening in future closings relative to last year. In fact, February was the third consecutive month with an expected decline in contract activity.

Chicago home sale contract activity is still at the high end of the historic range

Pending Chicago Home Sales

The graph below shows a continued trend of lower pending home sales. February dropped by 650 units from a year ago and is now more in line with the pre-pandemic lower values. This drop helped fuel the sales gains in February.

A lower pipeline of closings also does not bode well for future closings.

After hitting historic lows the backlog of homes likely to close in the next 1 – 2 months rebounded during the pandemic but is now starting to retreat again

Distressed Chicago Home Sales

We remain near the bottom of the downward trend in the percentage of home sales that are distressed, without much room for further declines. Only 2.4% of February’s sales were distressed compared to 3.1% a year ago. Initially it was believed that the pandemic foreclosure moratorium was keeping a lid on these percentages but even with the moratorium lifted we are not seeing an increase in foreclosure activity.

Since the housing crisis the percentage of home sales that are distressed has steadily declined to almost negligible levels.

Chicago Home Inventory

The home inventory levels have just gotten ridiculously low. New records were set in both attached and detached homes. We are now down to only a 2.1 month supply of attached homes and a mere 1.8 month supply of detached homes. Both of these numbers are well into “sellers’ market” territory.

After a big Coronavirus induced spike in April 2020 the inventory of homes for sale dropped back down. Both detached and attached inventory keep setting new record lows.

Chicago Home Sale Market Times

It’s pretty obvious from the graph below that detached homes are selling like hotcakes – on average in only 61 days, down from 89 days last year. That looks like a record. Attached homes actually took a bit longer to sell than last year – 111 days on average vs. 105. However, the median time to sell an attached home actually dropped to 77 days from 83 days. What that means is that the average market time is being inflated by a lot of condos that are sitting on the market for too long.

In case you are wondering…the median time to sell a detached home dropped to 29 days from 35 days.

When the pandemic first hit Chicago market times rose but they finally recovered with detached homes hitting record lows.

4 free agents the Chicago Bears should pursue if not franchise taggedTodd Welteron March 7, 2022 at 2:00 pm

The Chicago Bears need to make significant upgrades to the roster if they hope to own the NFC North.

Armed with only five draft picks and no first-round pick in this year’s NFL Draft, new Chicago Bears general manager Ryan Poles will have to use free agency as one way to upgrade the team.

The Chicago Bears’ biggest needs are at wide receiver, offensive line, and the secondary.

The Bears have just two players under contract who suited up in a game at wide receiver in Darnell Mooney and Dazz Newsome.

Eddie Jackson is the only safety currently under contract.

The offensive line needs an upgrade. Plus, Poles wants his lineman to be leaner, faster, and stronger.

The Chicago Bears also could use another tight end. The switch to the 4-3 base defense means defensive tackle and linebacker needs to be addressed.

Really, the Chicago Bears are only set at running back and pass rusher. That need could change depending on if Poles decides to trade Khalil Mack, Robert Quinn, or David Montgomery to get more draft picks.

The Chicago Bears have some salary-cap space to sign some impactful free agents.

There are four free agents the Chicago Bears should jump at the chance to sign if they are not franchise-tagged.

1

J.C. Jackson

Cornerback,New England Patriots

It seemed like Jackson was destined to be tagged. Now, it appears the New England Patriots will let Jackson test the market.

From NFL Now: #Patriots CB JC Jackson is expected to hit the free agent market, rather than receive the franchise tag. One of the top CBs will generate significant interest. pic.twitter.com/i3PE7GGGNE

— Ian Rapoport (@RapSheet) March 4, 2022

He is the sixth-best free agent available according to Pro Football Focus. He would be a perfect for new head coach Matt Eberflus’ turnover focused defense. Jackson had eight picks last season.

Imagine him being paired with Jaylon Johnson at corner. That would dramatically improve a secondary that struggled mightily last season.

Although, Jackskon will not come cheap.

JC Jackson info
– Tag unlikely, which is to JC’s benefit.
– If it’s not Jalen Ramsey money, don’t want to talk.
– Leaking tag intel gives teams a chance to say we don’t want to compete in FA for him, maybe tag and trade if compensation agreed to.
– Still likes Pats but $$ matters

2

Orlando Brown, Jr

OT,Kansas City Chiefs

Poles has connections to Brown since Poles came to the Chicago Bears from Kansas City.

Pro Football Focus has New Orleans Terron Armstead ranked higher than Brown. Brown is five years younger and more durable.

Brown on the Chicago Bears would allow either Teven Jenkins or Larry Borom to move inside to replace James Daniels who is most likely departing the Bears in free agency.

Brown being available seems highly unlikely as the Chiefs appear likely to tag him.

3

Mike Williams

Wide Receiver,Los Angeles Chargers

Mike Williams had a monster year for the LA Chargers. Allen Robinson is most likely departing via free agency. Williams would be a perfect replacement as a big wide receiver target for Justin Fields.

He also is an explosive playmaker with great size and leaping ability. He can get banged up but he has not missed a ton of games in his career.

The Chargers do appear likely to place the franchise tag on Williams. If they decide against it, the Bears need to snag him.

4

David Njoku

Tight End,Cleveland Browns

The Chicago Bears are going to need another tight end to pair up with Cole Kmet. Njoku brings great athleticism and has improved as a blocker.

While his pure production numbers do not match up with say Travis Kelce, he has that ability to be just as good.

Getting him on the Bears roster would be like, for example, when Chicago brought in Martellus Barnett. He could be that big target in the middle of the field for Fields.

The Browns are considering tagging him based on how much they value the tight end position.
