The Sacramento Kings have secured permission to interview several assistant coaches for their head-coaching job, including Golden State‘s Mike Brown, Brooklyn consultant Steve Clifford, Milwaukee‘s Darvin Ham and Charles Lee, and Boston‘s Will Hardy, sources told ESPN.

Among other candidates whom the Kings don’t need permission to interview and are expected to discuss the job with team officials: former Warriors coach Mark Jackson and longtime NBA coach Mike D’Antoni, sources said.

Kings general manager Monte McNair is expected to expedite the opening of the interview process soon, and the organization will proceed to narrowing a list for follow-up discussions on the job, sources said.

The Kings (30-52) finished the season with interim coach Alvin Gentry, who replaced Luke Walton after he was fired following a 6-11 start. The Kings have the longest playoff drought in the NBA at 16 seasons.

Sacramento is building its franchise around two young stars, center Domantas Sabonis and point guard De’Aaron Fox. The Kings haven’t won 40 games in a season since 2005-06.

Climate change denial: A primer for liars and fools

Climate change denial: A primer for liars and fools

Anyone who tries to convince you that human activity has no effect on climate change (global warming) is either a liar or a fool and the two are not mutually exclusive.

Those who stubbornly refuse to acknowledge that climate change is real and happening right now should be avoided like the plague, just as you would avoid flat Earthers and stop-the-steal whackos.

Recognizing the existence of climate change is a step in the right direction, but failing to understand or admit that we humans are the perpetrators of a relentless, deadly assault on our planet is negligent to the point of criminality.

Back in the 1980’s, when Exxon and Mobil were two separate, oil-producing behemoths, they paid scientists to research the effects of their business models on the environment and what could be expected in the future.

Not surprisingly – or surprisingly, depending upon your level of naivete – both companies came up with the very same conclusions. They found that pumping oil out of the Earth was an environmental risk, but that burning fossil fuels is a threat to the atmosphere and the planet.

Perhaps most disturbingly, predictions made by those scientists some 40 years ago were right on the money. We are now right where they said we would be, dealing with rising tides, increasingly violent weather and burning forests.

You’re probably wondering why you’ve never heard of this before and there’s a very good explanation. Both Exxon and Mobil (now ExxonMobil) decided that the best course of action in the wake of those findings was to question the science, causing doubt and confusion about the results of their own studies.

To augment their strategy of lies and obfuscation, they invested in professional liars (politicians) who, for a price would propagate their lies and work against any legislation that would impact their profitability.

As their strategy evolved, the lion’s share of the load was shifted to an almost exclusively Republican responsibility. After all they wanted the best in the business for their money.

Their investment paid off. ExxonMobil earned $23 BILLION last year.

Big oil’s strategy was nothing new. The tobacco industry did the same thing, with tobacco executives lying to Congress, insisting that smoking did not cause cancer, even though they knew that their products were highly carcinogenic.

Following the money works for all types of crimes. It was almost predictable that one of Donnie Trump’s first executive orders was to make it legal for coal companies to dump toxic waste into clean water.

They say that with all their properties around the world, the Koch brothers are most pleased with their Manchin in West Virginia.

In Alaska, the permafrost is melting, causing houses to sink into the ground and releasing carbon dioxide and methane into the atmosphere.

Miami Beach, Florida has sunny day floods; days with no rain, but flooded streets. They’re working with engineers from Copenhagen, Denmark to try to solve some of that flooding, but it seems that someone has removed many of the math books they need from the library.

Governor Cruella DeSantis is looking into legislation that would prohibit anyone from using the word flood.

Anyway, I’m sorry if I ruined your Earth Day. I’m even sorrier we don’t have another planet to leave our grandchildren.

Can Herbal Extracts Help with Arthritis?

Can Herbal Extracts Help with Arthritis?

BY SANDRA GUY

Anyone who suffers from arthritis knows a desperate desire to stop the crippling pain. In fact, May — designated Arthritis Awareness Month — shows that one in every five adults and 300,000 children in America suffer from it.

More importantly, arthritis taxes people’s finances and our country’s economic health.

One-third of working-age people with arthritis are limited in their ability to work and in the type and time of work they can do, according to the Arthritis Foundation.People with osteoarthritis and rheumatoid arthritis –two major kinds of arthritis – miss a combined 172 million workdays every year.Arthritis and related conditions account for more than $156 billion annually in lost wages and medical expenses.

These conditions may make it worthwhile to research using natural alternatives – though unproven — rather than NSAIDs (over-the-counter pain relievers).

One such natural remedy, Boswellic acid, is found in the herbal resin of the boswellia tree. Boswellia, also known as Indian frankincense, is available as a pill, resin or cream. It is thought — and some studies have shown — that Boswellia may support cartilage, mobility, joint health and connective tissue integrity.

But Boswellia may interact with and decrease the effects of anti-inflammatory medications. Talk to your doctor before using boswellia products, especially if you’re taking other medications to treat inflammation.

Meanwhile, be sure to indulge in low-impact aerobic activities that put no stress on the joints, such as dancing, cycling, swimming, water aerobics, brisk walking, light gardening and group exercise classes.

Cubs’ Frazier headed to IL due to appendicitison April 22, 2022 at 6:50 pm

CHICAGOChicago Cubs outfielder Clint Frazier will be placed on the injured list after undergoing surgery for appendicitis, the team announced on Friday morning.

Frazier, 27, has appeared in 10 games this season after the Cubs signed him as a free agent during the winter. He was the fifth overall pick by the New York Yankees in 2013 but had injury issues related to suffering multiple concussions while playing in New York.

“We’re keeping him in our thoughts,” manager David Ross said.

Frazier has a career .753 OPS in 238 games. He was part of a crowded outfield mix for the Cubs, hitting .143 in 21 at-bats. Now he’s out for an undetermined amount of time.

The team had not yet announced a corresponding roster move, as their Friday game against the Pittsburgh Pirates was moved from afternoon to evening because of weather in Chicago.

3 insane Chicago Bears trade packages for Deebo SamuelVincent Pariseon April 22, 2022 at 4:51 pm

Chicago Bears (Photo by Michael Zagaris/San Francisco 49ers/Getty Images)

The Chicago Bears are under a brand new regime. Ryan Poles is the new general manager and Matt Eberflus is the new head coach. We have no idea how they are going to operate as a duo so we just have to have faith in them for right now.

We can only hope that they work out a lot better than those who came before them. Part of that is going to be adding better players to play for their team. They have a lot of faith in Justin Fields who was selected by the previous regime in the first round of the 2021 NFL Draft.

In order to get the most out of Fields, they are going to need to get him the right weapons to help him run the offense the way that it needs to be run. One person who might be able to help with that is Deebo Samuel.

Samuel is a star wide receiver for the San Francisco 49ers. He would look amazing in a Chicago Bears uniform. He requested a trade earlier this week but he wouldn’t announce why. If the Bears are a team that he is interested in, Ryan Poles should consider making this his first big splash.

Breaking News: I just spoke to wide receiver Deebo Samuel — and he told me that he has asked the 49ers to trade him.

He did not want to discuss specific reasons behind his request, but he has indeed let the 49ers know his desire to leave the organization. More to come.

— Jeff Darlington (@JeffDarlington) April 20, 2022

Just because Deebo Samuel has requested a trade, as @JeffDarlington reported, doesn’t meant the 49ers have to make one. But it is, at the very least, one more gigantic subplot to mix into Draft week, with other teams now figuring out ways to land one of the league’s top weapons. pic.twitter.com/Ag8PwkciOK

— Adam Schefter (@AdamSchefter) April 20, 2022

Deebo Samuel is someone that would look great with the Chicago Bears offense.

It is hard to tell what it would cost to land a receiver like that but it is fun to think about. If the Bears deem him as someone worth giving up a lot for, these three packages might be able to get it done for both sides:

The Chicago Bulls need good Nikola Vucevic to stick aroundRyan Heckmanon April 22, 2022 at 2:00 pm

Throughout the entire regular season, there was no more up-and-down player for the Chicago Bulls than center Nikola Vucevic.

There were games where he was the reason for a win. There were games that he wanted to forget. Inconsistency doesn’t even come close to describe Vucevic’s season.

In Game 1 against the Milwaukee Bucks, Vucevic’s final stat line was the perfect summary of his season. He finished with 24 points and 17 rebounds, which looks like a phenomenal showing at first glance. However, shooting 9-for-27 and taking 10 three-pointers, along with three turnovers and questionable defense, was a big reason for the Bulls’ loss.

Game 2, though, was a different story altogether.

The Chicago Bulls need good Nikola Vucevic to keep it up if they are to win this first round series.

After finishing Game 1 with a -5 in the plus/minus category, Vucevic ended Game 2 with a +13. He again scored 24 points, but this time did it on 10-for-18 shooting, including 4-for-8 from deep. His 13 rebounds came in clutch as well.

The difference between Game 1 and 2 was obviously that the Bulls shot better as a team. DeMar DeRozan looked unstoppable, pouring in 41 points. Zach LaVine added 20 of his own.

But, if the Bulls had gotten another inconsistent night from Vucevic, that might have been enough to lose this one. Remember, the Bulls saw their big lead dissipate to a final score of 114-110. It became close as the game wound down.

Now without having to face Khris Middleton for the remainder of the series, the Bulls have one less star player to deal with. Vucevic should have even less pressure on him defensively, as much of the focus will be on Giannis.

The one thing Vucevic has to do better, though, is closing out on shooters when the Bucks move the ball around the perimeter. Many times, he is the last defender to have to come out before a Bucks player finally takes a shot, as they swing it around.

Without Middleton’s mid-range game, the Bucks will be more dependent on three-point shooting, specifically out of Jrue Holiday, Wes Matthews and Pat Connaughton. Vucevic has to stay aware of these shooters when Milwaukee is working to get one of them the ball on multiple quick, outside passes.

Offensively, we know Vucevic will want to take his shots from the outside as well. He has to knock them down. If he struggles, then the Bulls have to get him the ball down low and allow him to see the ball go through the hoop a couple of times on post-ups.

Vucevic is someone who relies on a rhythm, and if he gets out of a rhythm, the mental frustration can take over.

If the Bulls want to win this series, not only do they need DeRozan and LaVine, along with the x-factor Alex Caruso, but they’ll need Vucevic to bring more of what he brought in Game 2.

Game Recap

Alfonso Rivas has done nothing but hit since he returned from his brief stay in Chicago to open the year. He collected four hits, including two doubles, to help the I-Cubs build 5-0 lead through four innings. Caleb Kilian wasn’t particularly sharp, but he didn’t walk guys and kept the ball on the ground. Unfortunately, it was an off day for the Iowa pen (and defense). Six runs by Louisville from the 7th inning on (3 unearned) sunk the team.

After being designated for assignment last week, the Cubs traded former 2nd round pick Cory Abbott to the Giants for cash considerations. My guess is the Giants paid slightly more to the Cubs than the typical waiver wire fee as a way to jump the line of teams that would potentially claim the right handed starter ahead of San Francisco.

Abbott had stalled in his development over the last year. He struggled with the home run ball, and with getting LHB out. The Cubs apparently determined that Abbott had fallen behind Mark Leiter, Jr. for starts in Chicago. And with Wade Miley, Alec Mills, and Steven Brault all rehabbing and potentially available within the next month, Abbott must have been deemed expendable.

Game Recap

Five different Tennessee batters each blasted a home run.

The hottest hitter in the system since opening day, Darius Hill hit a grand slam, and added a double as well. Chris Morel launched his homer 450 feet. Nelson Maldonado continued to show his offseason strength gains are paying off. He went oppo for his third of the season already (career high is 6 in 67 games). A day after going yard twice, Nelson Velazquez sent another over the fence. Chase Strumpf added his second of the season.

With a strike out in his first inning of work, D.J. Herz hit the 150 K mark in his pro career. It took him just 100 innings to accomplish the feat. There really isn’t much A-ball hitters can do against the young lefty. The only thing that usually stops him in any given outing is his command/control. When he is throwing strikes like yesterday it is almost automatic he holds the opposing team off the board. It is a bit reminiscent of the point when Brailyn Marquez got locked in at South Bend a few years ago.

A tumultuous post-break stretch that saw the Chicago Bulls spiraling down the Eastern Conference standings, only to be unlucky enough to draw the defending champs in the first round, had most of the NBA media convinced the Bulls would only see four games in this year’s playoffs.

An entire fanbase breathed a sigh of relief Wednesday night when time ran out on the Bucks’ late comeback attempt, signaling the Bulls’ first playoff win since April 18, 2017.

One game isn’t a series, though. Avoiding a sweep is a nice sentiment, but the work isn’t done. Would anyone be surprised if the Bucks win the next three games and move on to face more talented and cohesive teams?

No. But the freshly assembled Bulls found a formula to compete on the biggest stage against a team with more talent, experience, and years of familiarity.

The Chicago Bulls have a chance to do something special in this first round series.

The Bulls snatched this win by sticking tooth-and-nail to their season-long calling card: that they love defying expectations. This Bulls team is at their most dangerous when everyone around them has already written them off. They hear the noise, and they channel the underdog mentality into fighting hard and smart on the court.

It’s obvious Milwaukee wasn’t expecting this version of the Bulls. Last year’s champs looked lost on the court during both games of this series. They made numerous unforced errors. Everyone not named Giannis Antetokounmpo failed to make a significant mark on either game.

I’ve come up with three main aspects of the game that the Bulls have focused on to make this a competitive series, rather than rolling over like most expected of them. If they can continue to excel at these areas, it might turn into more wins and possibly a series victory.

The countdown is officially on. With six days before the 2022 NFL Draft, all eyes are on Chicago Bears general manager Ryan Poles and head coach Matt Eberflus.

The past three months have been largely disappointing for fans who expected any major moves this offseason. However, the Bears have a chance to make up for an underwhelming free agency period if they go about the draft the right way.

At this very moment, the Bears have some pressing needs that include: wide receiver, offensive line and cornerback. Other needs include linebacker, defensive line, safety and punter.

But, with all of the hype around this year’s wide receiver class, some of the latest rumblings on social media give a feeling that Poles might go after bigger guys with his early picks — no surprise, really, coming from a former lineman himself.

Could Ryan Poles and the Chicago Bears go contrary to what most deem logical in the 2022 NFL Draft?

Maybe, just maybe, going after other positions not named wide receiver does make sense for the Bears. Maybe, the plan all along was to build a foundation of protection and an understanding of this new offense for quarterback Justin Fields.

Could Poles build through the trenches first, before going after another playmaker for Fields?

If he does, that likely won’t sit well with the majority of the fan base, who have their eyes set on players like George Pickens, Christian Watson an Jalen Tolbert with those first couple of picks.

Let’s say Poles does indeed go the route of surprise. What would that look like? What types of players would he target, and would he execute any trades? In this mock, we answer those questions.
