Celebrates Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month

In Celebration of Asian American and Pacific Islander
Heritage Month, Run Tings Footwear a luxury shoes brand shares about their diversity initiative when it comes to representation of beauty, sexiness and luxury in fashion.
Run Tings Footwear is based in Los Angeles. The luxurious shoe line is progressive, contemporary and comfortable. The shoes are designed for city dwellers who value quality, sustainability and style. Handcrafted in Italy, all custom shoes are handmade by master Italian craftsman from pristine Italian leather. Each designer pair is a one-of-a-kind, combining handcrafting tradition, quality and modern style for a product that’s perfectly Italian.

As they celebrate Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month, they wanted to share with their community:

The fashion industry is notorious for its lack of diversity when it comes to Asian male models and we want to change the status quo.

CEO and designer, Jozanne Marie

Run Tings was launched May 2021 during the pandemic era when life and the world was changing. Diversity and Inclusion became the narrative in every conversation and RunTings wanted to make sure they joined in on the discussion using their platform. With the hate crimes against the Asian community, they felt the urgency to start the conversation through fashion. One of their main male spokesmodel, is an Asian American actor, writer and producer, Xaypani Baccam who’ve worked in the entertainment industry on many different facets and have also dealt with his own share
of discrimination. Xaypani leads the brand with style and stunning poise.

On the Run Tings website, the company asked the question, “What footprints will you leave?” And the answer “It’s for the person who wants to step into the new era of business, leadership and make a difference in the world.”

The color combos are designed specifically to give homage to Jamaica, the highest-rated country in the world that has women in leadership and managerial positions. Run Tings is also a great advocate for women in the market place.

Their designs are also intentional when it comes to uniqueness and variety. From retro 80’s tennis style to aerodynamic luxury and who can forget a pair of seductive classic pumps. Run Tings has it covered.

I absolutely love my Run Tings shoes. They are so special. From the packaging to the design and fit, you can tell they are made with high quality materials and craftsmanship. They are my go-to sneakers and go with everything , from a sundress to a pair of jeans.

Entrepreneur, Ginger Navarrette

Run Tings taste in some of their men’s shoes is simple, elegant and with a British touch, these shoes seem to come from David Beckam’s wardrobe.

Alessandro from Alive Shoes

As a Black female owned company with roots in the Caribbean, Run Tings intends to make a statement and create a conscious movement of how important it is to be diligent with your steps in life and look amazing doing it. In addition, Run Tings continues to make incredible shoes but most importantly they look forward to make a statement by spotlighting diverse faces and gender from around the world that will help break down the barriers of discrimination and exclusion when it comes to beauty and sex appeal.

The downside of decorating comparisons

The downside of decorating comparisons

Do you ever wander around your home and think that it could use more pizzazz?

Browsing through an Apartment Therapy book recently, I thought about why my condo seems uninspired in comparison with the places in the photographs.

To begin with, the apartments and houses have high ceilings, architectural details like molding and wainscoting, gleaming woodwork, and big windows with grilles. Moreover, the furniture isn’t from IKEA or the light fixtures from Home Depot.

You don’t create homes like these from one shopping spree. The occupants probably hunted in home stores, antique stores, art fairs, flea markets, and specialty shops throughout their lifetimes. They curate the displays on walls, shelves, and tabletops. Decorating for them is an ongoing process, not a one-and-done project.

I live in a simple, modern apartment with no interesting architectural details and the standard 8½ foot ceiling.

I’ve never been a shopper. Except for the couch, nothing here cost more than a couple hundred dollars. I didn’t inherit any pieces.

HGTV and decorating books, magazines, and websites present us with visions of exquisite homes. I know a lot of people enjoy these sources of inspiration, but they can make me feel dissatisfied. I suspect that I’m not alone, so I’m going to share with other malcontents what I tell myself.

• The photos in decorating books are staged. I doubt that the homes remain perfect as they’re lived in daily. If they do, well, I’ll quote a book title: A Perfectly Kept House Is a Sign of a Misspent Life.

• Designers say your place should express you. My condo is low-key, laid-back, and informal, and so (I like to think) am I. So, the goal is achieved. “Your place is cozy” is the most frequent comment I get from people who visit, and there’s no praise I like more.

• My condo not only expresses my personality but also my values. I’m not into impressing people — or perhaps I should say that the impression I want to give is that I value simplicity, frugality, and not having more than I need.

• Maybe all the condo needs is refreshing. An environment that never changes can seem stale after a while, no matter how well designed. Rearranging the living room furniture the last time I felt discontent did the trick. Or maybe it’s time for a deep cleaning.

• When I start comparing, I might compare myself with the thousands of homeless people who live on the streets of Chicago. I know that sounds like your mother’s reminding you of the starving kids in poor countries when you didn’t clean your plate, but it’s true: Those of us who have homes are blessed.

Chicago Real Estate Market Update: 2nd Highest April Sales In 17 Years

Chicago Real Estate Market Update: 2nd Highest April Sales In 17 Years

Realtors are probably getting nervous that the Chicago
real estate market may be slowing down.

More than 2 years into the pandemic and the Chicago real estate market keeps chugging along. When you look at the graph below you’ll be reminded that last April we set a record for home sales – maybe even an all time record. So it’s actually quite impressive that this April sales fell by a measly 3.1%. That’s the second highest level in 17 years and the third highest level in the entire history that I have readily available. Also note that the light green moving average is still trending up from its already high levels.

The Illinois Association of Realtors always calculates a slightly lower number than me so in two weeks they will report a 5.4% decline.

Going forward, keep in mind that the recent spike in mortgage rates is making everybody nervous. It could cause people to stay put since they likely have a much lower mortgage rate than they can get today and it could discourage first time home buyers as well. But people have to move for all sorts of reasons that have nothing to do with finances so it’s unclear just how big of an impact this could have.

Chicago home sales had been declining now for several years but the Coronavirus really tanked the market in May and June of 2020. The market returned to more normal levels starting in July 2020 and is now setting new records.

Chicago Home Contract Activity

The number of contracts being written showed a 16.4% decline from last year, which is the third decline in a row. However, it’s still at the upper end of the range but this could be the first signs of the Chicago real estate market slowing down.

Chicago home sale contract activity is still at the high end of the historic range

Pending Chicago Home Sales

Pending home sales fell by 1150 units from last year, which is a very large amount. Those 1150 units basically came out of the pipeline and supplement the contracts being written to culminate in closed sales. That has allowed closings to continue at a fast pace even though contract activity is down. But you can only pull off that trick for so long.

After hitting historic lows the backlog of homes likely to close in the next 1 – 2 months rebounded during the pandemic but is now starting to retreat again

Distressed Chicago Home Sales

The percentage of Chicago home sales that are distressed has been steadily declining. However, April was the first month with a year over year increase in almost 2 years, with 2.2% distressed compared to only 1.5% distressed last year. Now keep in mind that until recently there was a moratorium on foreclosures so this could be a bit of backlog working its way through the system. However, as I said in my most recent foreclosure update, I don’t think we’re going to see a flood of foreclosures coming through.

Since the housing crisis the percentage of home sales that are distressed has steadily declined to almost negligible levels.

Chicago Home Inventory

The inventory of Chicago homes for sale continues to drop from already low to even lower, setting new records. In April the months of supply of detached homes for sale dropped to a mere 1.6 months of supply from last year’s 1.8 months of supply. Attached homes had an even bigger drop, going from 2.6 months last year to 1.9 months. Yeah, it’s a great time to be a seller but then you have to buy something else…unless of course you no longer have use for a home. Then you have bigger problems to worry about.

After a big Coronavirus induced spike in April 2020 the inventory of homes for sale dropped back down. Both detached and attached inventory keep setting new record lows.

Chicago Home Sale Market Times

With tighter inventory comes faster sales and that pattern held true in April. Detached homes sold on average in only 56 days compared to 60 days last year but half of the homes sold in 15 days or less. Attached homes sold in only 64 days, which is down substantially from 80 days last year, and half of the homes sold in 16 days or less. For sure there are plenty of homes that are just sitting – most likely just overpriced for what they have to offer.

When the pandemic first hit Chicago market times rose but they finally recovered with detached homes hitting record lows.

Sources: Jokic to win second straight MVP awardon May 9, 2022 at 1:49 pm

Denver Nuggets center Nikola Jokic has been voted the NBA’s Most Valuable Player for a second consecutive season, sources told ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski.

A formal announcement is expected this week, sources told Wojnarowski.

Jokic’s raw stats were even better this year than last year as he averaged career highs of 27.1 points and 13.8 rebounds per game. He also averaged 7.9 assists, good for eighth-best in the league.

Jokic even created his own club, becoming the first player in NBA history with 2,000 points, 1,000 rebounds and 500 assists in a season.

The Denver center did it all without two of his co-stars as point guard Jamal Murray missed the entire season while recovering from a torn ACL, and Michael Porter Jr. was held to just nine games because of a back injury. Despite that, the Nuggets were still able to make the playoffs as the West’s fifth seed.

Jokic is the 14th player in NBA history to win the MVP multiple times and the second straight winner to go back-to-back after Giannis Antetokounmpo won consecutive MVP awards in 2018-19 and 2019-20.

Antetokounmpo was a finalist for this year’s award along with Joel Embiid.

The Chicago Cubs need to trade Willson Contreras right nowVincent Pariseon May 9, 2022 at 11:00 am

The Chicago Cubs are a very bad baseball team. In the last week or so, they were swept by both the Chicago White Sox and Los Angeles Dodgers. They aren’t even in the same stratosphere as two-division contenders like that which is why they have lost five straight games.

They have almost everyone on the team underperforming to the point where they are sending guys like Frank Schwindel back to AAA because he’s been so bad. They are now 9-18 which is just a really bad look. They have a -20 run differential and they have a 21-0 win on the season. That’s bad.

One person (there are still a few others) who might still be worth watching is Willson Contreras. He has a lot of power in his bat, has a cannon of an arm from behind the plate, and is a real leader in a good locker room. The man is obsessed with winning.

The problem with Contreras is that he is a catcher on the wrong side of 30 looking for a big-money deal. He deserves it for everything that he has done but the Cubs are not the right team to do it for him. Yeah, it’d be nice to see him stay with the club if you’re a Cubs fan but that isn’t fair to him.

It is time for the Chicago Cubs to trade Willson Contreras to a contender.

He deserves to be in the playoffs helping teams compete for the World Series. By the time the Cubs get back to that level, he will be well past his prime. That is why they need to trade him right now.

He is on an expiring contract which makes him a rental unless he immediately signs an extension with whatever team acquires him. The Cubs should have traded him last offseason but Jed Hoyer isn’t a fan of getting the most out of his assets (see 2021 trade deadline).

Contreras would be valuable to whatever team landed him because of his ability to catch but the bat is where he makes his money. He is also versatile and could DH as well. Even National League teams can take advantage of that DH now which gives them even more options.

It is sad to say because he seems to love playing for the Cubs and his resume speaks for itself but it is time. His value diminishes with each passing day so they really shouldn’t wait for all the way until the trade deadline.

If they do, they won’t get the best value. either way, baseball fans want to see competitors like him in the playoffs.

Cubs’ Stroman placed on IL after late scratchon May 8, 2022 at 9:52 pm

CHICAGO — The Chicago Cubs scratched starting pitcher Marcus Stroman for Sunday night’s game against the Los Angeles Dodgers, placing him on the injured list without a designation.

That move is normally reserved for COVID-19 related issues.

Stroman, 31, will be replaced by lefty Justin Steele who is 1-3 with a 5.50 ERA in five starts. Stroman had just started to find his stride after struggling in his first few appearances with the Cubs after signing a 3-year, $71 million deal with them this past offseason. He threw seven shutout innings against the Milwaukee Brewers in his most recent outing.

Righty Adrian Sampson has been called up from Triple-A Iowa to take Stroman’s place on the roster. The team also sent down struggling first baseman Frank Schwindel.

The Cubs have lost four in a row.

I’m Jerry Partacz, happily married to my wife Julie for over 40 years. I have four children and eleven grandchildren. I’m enjoying retirement after 38 years of teaching. I now have an opportunity to share my thoughts on many things. I’m an incurable optimist. I also love to solve crossword puzzles and to write light verse. I love to read, to garden, to play the piano, to collect stamps and coins, and to watch “Curb Your Enthusiasm”.

Ump Kulpa hit in mask by foul ball, leaves gameon May 8, 2022 at 6:35 pm

BOSTON — Plate umpire Ron Kulpa had to leave Sunday’s White SoxRed Sox game at Fenway Park in the fourth inning after taking a foul ball off the mask.

Kupla got hit square in the mask by a foul ball off the bat of Chicago’s Jake Burger and dropped straight to the ground.

Trainers from both teams rushed out, Red Sox catcher Christian Vazquez turned to help and the rest of the umpiring crew came to the plate.

After sitting for a bit, Kupla stood up, chatted with Boston’s trainer briefly and walked off on his own. He was replaced behind the plate by first-base umpire Marty Foster after a 20-minute delay and the game resumed with a three-man crew.

Red Sox’s Wacha scratched from start, put on ILon May 8, 2022 at 4:52 pm

BOSTON — Red Sox right-hander Michael Wacha has been scratched from his scheduled start in Sunday’s series finale against the White Sox and was placed on the 15-day injured list.

Manager Alex Cora said Wacha was feeling sore on his left side after his last bullpen session.

“[Saturday] we had an MRI and everything was clean,” Cora said. “We’re just going to be smart about it. Hopefully, he can continue to progress, get on the mound and be ready for [his next start].”

About an hour after Cora’s media session, the Red Sox put Wacha on the injured list with what was described as “left intercostal irritation.” Right-hander Tyler Danish was recalled from Triple-A Worcester to fill his roster spot.

Wacha (3-0, 1.38 ERA), 30, signed a one-year, $7 million deal during spring training. He has been one of the team’s best starters, allowing two or fewer runs and going five-plus innings in each of his last four starts.

Right-hander Tanner Houck (2-2, 5.14) will take his place against Chicago lefty Dallas Keuchel (1-3, 8.40).

Last-place Boston (10-18) enters having lost four straight and 13 of 17.
