Promoter Alexi Front began his love affair with Scandinavian metal in the mid-2000s by publishing a zine and running a label. He started the Scorched Tundra festival in Gothenburg, Sweden, in 2011, and five years later he began throwing one in Chicago as well—spearheading a sort of underground-metal sister-cities program. Front is a curator by nature: “Each year I do my best to place all of the bands playing Scorched Tundra in a slot that will enhance their strengths,” he says on the festival’s website, “instead of placing them based in order of how much they are paid or what their stature may dictate.” For the past couple years, Scorched Tundra has been constrained in scope by the pandemic, but Front has continued to promote shows through his partnership with the Empty Bottle whenever possible—and this year the festival returns with the force of pent-up energy at last released. 

Taking place over three nights, Scorched Tundra XII is great from start to finish. The festival includes well-known scene favorites such as California psych masters Earthless, as well as rare magical moments: Saturday night’s bill features a collaborative set by Baton Rouge sludge ensemble Thou and Portland one-man black-metal project Mizmor. The two acts worked together on the album Myopia, which Gilead Media released earlier this year with very little fanfare, and they performed the record in its entirety this spring at the Roadburn Festival in the Netherlands; they’ll do that again here in Chicago. The show is also Mizmor’s Chicago debut, so make sure to arrive on time for the solo set by founder A.L.N. The lineup at Scorched Tundra also features plenty of local heavyweights: on Thursday post-hardcore band Sweet Cobra kick things off, on Friday, folky doom group Huntsmen and rising stoner-psych monsters Rezn, and on Saturday, a DJ set from Hide vocalist Heather Gabel and a performance by Ready for Death (a thrash supergroup featuring members of Pelican, Haggathorn, Racetraitor, and Swan King, as well as Reader contributor and former staffer Luca Cimarusti, of Annihilus and Luggage).

The Chicago White Sox is a team that came into 2022 with high expectations. There is no reason that they should be sitting where they are in the standings. A lot of things have gone wrong this year but the biggest problem has been manager Tony La Russa.

Tony La Russa was a horrific hire from day one and it ended up being even worse than we thought. He puts out horrendous lineups, has been bad at in-game strategy and has made terrible moves with the bullpen.

The team is also significantly less fun with him at the helm. Honestly, things were so much better with Rick Renteria as the manager. The baseball side of things with Tony is about the same as Ricky but with a lot less energy.

It is time for the White Sox to fire Tony La Russa right now. In fact, they should have done it 100 games ago. Now, it might be too late anyway but it would send a message that they are tired of losing and mad about what has happened to this team so far this year.

The Chicago White Sox is a franchise that needs to make a big change right away.

Who are they going to replace him with if they fire him after the season? Well, we won’t know for sure until that time comes. There could be other options that became available and the people making that decision could change as well.

At 63-65, the White Sox are under .500 with just a few days left in August. They are 5.0 games behind the Cleveland Guardians as they are off on Monday. If they can come back and make the playoffs it would be a miracle. Stranger things have happened but this feels impossible.

There is no reason to defend the management of Tony La Russa. It is nothing personal against him, he just was not a manager that helped this team do what they needed to do. He was supposed to help them get over the hump as a team but they have gone backward under him.

The only person who should be more ashamed of himself is owner Jerry Reinsdorf. He went above Rick Hahn to hire his old friend as the manager and it has been a disaster.

Rick Hahn hasn’t been perfect but we haven’t seen his rebuild with his coach and that is a problem. They aren’t run like a winning franchise and the Tony La Russa era proves it to everyone watching.

Here are the criteria that we kept in mind for our reviews of these different VR porn sites, so it’s helpful for you to understand them.

Overall selection

You need to factor in quantity and quality of the site’s scenes.

Oftentimes sites charge around the same amount, but one might have only a tenth of the video library that the other has. The other site, however, might have ten times the production value.

So, it depends on what appeals to you most: quantity, or quality? Ideally, you can find a site that has both.

Compatibility

What VR device(s) do you have? Will it work with the content (or most of the content) on a given site? It’s best to do your research to ensure that your headset will be compatible and, while you’re at it, that your smartphone operating system will be as well.

Price

VR Porn is a premium experience and, as such, it carries a premium in terms of cost. There’s really no way of getting around it. That said, you can aim for sites that will bundle content with sister sites or opt for an aggregator to maximize the content you get.

In order to win the lottery, which the Blackhawks haven’t done since 2007, you need to be amongst the worst teams in the league. By trading players like Alex DeBrincat and Kirby Dach for high draft picks in last year’s draft, it is clear that this is the goal.

If the Blackhawks were to trade Patrick Kane away, that would make them an even worse team with more future assets in the mix. It is something smart for them to consider as they can change the entire future of their franchise in a positive way this year.

When he becomes available (if he becomes available), there are going to be teams lined up with their best offers. He is one of the greatest players ever that can help a team sell tickets and make a run at the Stanley Cup. However, there are three teams that clearly won’t be going for him.

The Blackhawks are not going to see every team as a possibility for Patrick Kane.

1. Minnesota Wild

The Chicago Blackhawks would probably not have a problem trading Patrick Kane within the division. They aren’t going to be good at all so it doesn’t matter one bit. However, the Minnesota Wild is an unlikely destination.

Minnesota is going to be a great team this season but cap penalties to Zach Parise and Ryan Suter will keep them from going all in this year. They might make a big splash after this season when some more cap frees up but it isn’t happening with Kane right now.

2. Arizona Coyotes

Again, the Hawks would move Kane to a division rival but it won’t happen for the Arizona Coyotes. They are playing this season at a college stadium and it is a big-time mess there right now. They certainly won’t be pushing any chips in for one year of Patrick Kane. They will be right there with the Blackhawks in their quest for Connor Bedard.

3. Vegas Golden Knights

The Vegas Golden Knights are already over the salary cap by a lot and they don’t have a number one goalie going into the 2022-23 season. That will work itself out before it all starts for real.

They have been known to make big splashes in recent years (Mark Stone, Jack Eichel, Robin Lehner) but Patrick Kane won’t be added to that list.

All of these teams are in different spots right now but none of them are likely landing spots for Patrick Kane right now. Anything is possible in the future but don’t expect to see him wearing any of those sweaters this year.

The Chicago Cubs are an abysmal team in the National League this season. For most of 2022 and 2021, they have been a disaster. However, a lot of people seem to think that they are going to go out and make a big splash this winter.

Of course, the rumors surround the great shortstops that are going to be available but one new rumor should make each and every Cubs fan giddy. It involves a superstar that plays for a bad team on the west coast.

One of the only more disappointing teams than the Cubs this season is the Los Angeles Angels. They haven’t been able to win anything despite having two generational talents on their roster. Shohei Ohtani and Mike Trout are truly amazing players that have done no winning.

Now, the Angels could be sold so questions remain about their two stars. Are they going to trade them before the team gets sold? It is surely possible. There is one baseball person with a credible opinion that thinks the Cubs are an option for Ohtani.

Jon Morosi of the MLB Network went on “The Parkins and Spiegal Show” and said that he wouldn’t be surprised if Ohtani was traded to the Cubs. That would be one of the greatest things to ever happen to a Chicago sports franchise.

Shohei Ohtani would change the Chicago Cubs franchise forever if he came.

Ohtani can be argued as the greatest athlete walking on this earth right now. He is certainly the most gifted baseball player who ever lived. The biggest reason for this is because of the fact that he is a two-way player.

If the Cubs landed this guy, they would be getting their new best hitter, their new best pitcher, and their new best base stealer. He is truly a magnificent player that has no ceiling in this game. He is absolutely one of the game’s best pitchers and hitters.

He is also a well-known superstar across the world now. Anyone who has him on their team will draw the attention of the entire sports world for his entire tenure. The money that would come with landing him would be astronomical.

There is also a designated hitter in the National League now which didn’t exist when Ohtani was trying to decide on his team. Everything that he brings to the table would help the Cubs take that next step in their rebuild.

Now, just because one baseball pundit thinks that it could happen doesn’t mean that it will. However, it is something to keep an eye on once the offseason begins. The Cubs would have to give up a lot and then extend him but it would be well worth it for them.
