What’s New

These 3 new Chicago Bears players came to play on SundayJosh De Lucaon September 12, 2022 at 11:00 am

The 2022 Chicago Bears kicked off the regular season on Sunday and it was exciting, to say the least. Before kickoff, everyone had a feeling that this was going to be a sloppy, low-scoring affair, due to the rough conditions.

Both teams had their fair share of the sloppy play but in the end, Matt Eberflus and the Chicago Bears walked off of Soldier Field undefeated.

Many different Bears stepped up on both sides of the ball but it was the newcomers who really secured this win for Chicago. It has only been one week but Ryan Poles seems to have signed and drafted a good group of players.

These are a few newcomers who didn’t back down and helped the Bears overcome a double-digit deficit and defeat the San Francisco 49ers.

Many Chicago Bears stepped up on Sunday but some newer faces came to play.

Dominique Robinson

Dominique Robinson is a 5th round rookie out of Miami (OH). As a day three draft pick out of a smaller division one program, Robinson was thought of as a “work in progress” who would need some time to develop before he would make an impact. This couldn’t have been further from the truth.

Robinson was all over the field on Sunday, racking up 7 total tackles (5 solos), and having a team-high 1.5 sacks. All things considered, Robinson might have been the most effective defensive lineman for the Bears all game.

Not many fans expected Robinson to make a big impact on Sunday but he showed out as a rotational pass rusher for the Bears.

Dante Pettis + Equanimeous St. Brown

I decided to combine both Dante Pettis and Equanimeous St. Brown into the same section because technically they only combined for 2 catches all game. However, those two catches were arguably two of the biggest plays in the game.

Let’s start with Dante Pettis. Like most of the other Bears’ pass catchers, he struggled early. Not too many pass catchers were able to make an impact because of the rainy conditions. Justin Fields only attempted 17 passes all game and only completed 8 of them.

Pettis broke the game open by making his lone grab in a scramble drill situation where Justin Fields found him wide open on the other side of the field. He made the most of this opportunity, making the catch and rumbling 51 yards into the endzone to get the Bears on the scoreboard.

Equanimeous St Brown also caught a touchdown on his only grab on a big 3rd down play early in the 4th quarter. This play was a huge momentum booster as it gave the Bears the lead with less than a quarter to play. St. Brown also made an impact in the blocking game, actually springing Pettis on his touchdown catch.

Jaquan Brisker

Jaquan Brisker also had an impactful game in the Bears’ secondary. Brisker recorded 4 tackles on Sunday with one of those being a big TFL. On top of that, he also recovered the first fumble of the 2022 season, stopping promising 49ers’ drive in its tracks.

Brisker also did his job in the passing game, as Trey Lance only had 164 yards passing and 0 touchdowns. Statistically, Brisker didn’t put the league on notice this week but he more than did his job and was a big leader of this stout Bears defense.

Chicago Bears pull of a stunner at home vs San Francisco 49ersVincent Pariseon September 11, 2022 at 8:44 pm

The Chicago Bears came into thier week with the San Francisco 49ers as huge underdogs. They don’t have a lot of talent on their roster and many believed that the 49ers would dominate them at Soldier Field.

However, with some bad weather and good play, the Chicago Bears were able to pull out a huge upset win at home. They won the game by a final score of 19-10 thanks to some really good play in the second half.

The first half of the game didn’t go well for them but they really turned it on in the second half. The offense had a plan for the second half and how they were going to handle things in the heavy rain conditions. They did what they needed to do and got the big win.

Justin Fields was only okay (and even worse than okay at times) in the first half but he really turned it on later on. He was able to make some big throws that allowed the Bears to score some big-time touchdowns. They were able to drive down the field just enough to score some points against a very good 49ers defense.

Fields finished the game 8 for 17 with two touchdown passes and one interception. Those aren’t outstanding stats by any means but they were able to do just enough when it mattered most to get the win.

The Chicago Bears got what they needed from everyone to get a big win.

The Chicago Bears also had a really nice performance from their defense. They only allowed Trey Lance and the 49ers offense to score 10 points. They also had a touchdown of their own as Eddie Jackson had a pick-six for the Bears which was one of the stunning turning points of the game.

Chicago looked like the disciplined and hard-working team that went 3-0 in the preseason. This win gave Matt Eberflus his first win as the head coach of the Chicago Bears. He did a great job sticking to his plan and getting just what they needed to earn a hard victory in bad conditions against an elite team.

There is going to be a lot to break down about this game but the main focus needs to be on how the Bears are clearly building towards something good here. As talent comes in more and more over the years, this team could really be on the rise. Hopefully, the surprise wins continue to come.

La Russa gets pacemaker; White Sox return TBDon September 11, 2022 at 9:13 pm

OAKLAND, Calif. — Chicago White Sox manager Tony La Russa says he is recovering well from having a pacemaker inserted for his heart and is uncertain when he’ll return to run the club.

La Russa was back with the White Sox in Oakland on Sunday to celebrate Dave Stewart having his No. 34 jersey retired by the Athletics. La Russa was there for the ceremony but not to manage his team.

The Hall of Famer, who turns 78 on Oct. 4, shared specifics of the procedure with The Associated Press after discussing his health before Chicago’s series finale against the Athletics. He said he is grateful to have had what he considered a relatively “simple” heart issue.

“Health is nothing to mess with,” La Russa said, standing in the dugout wearing jeans, sneakers and a short-sleeve collared golf shirt. “So I got checked in Chicago and the reason that I flew to Arizona is that’s been the place since the ’90s I’ve had my physicals. They addressed it, they fixed it and now it’s just a question of regaining strength.”

La Russa didn’t want to miss the special day for Stewart, his longtime ace with the A’s. La Russa is uncertain when he will be in uniform again and back in the dugout. Bench coach Miguel Cairo has been leading the club during La Russa’s nearly two-week absence. They have been speaking twice a day, and La Russa watches every game from home until he is cleared to do more. He said he had an issue at spring training, too.

5 things to watch for in Chicago Bears vs. San Francisco 49ersTodd Welteron September 11, 2022 at 11:00 am

The Chicago Bears enter the 2022 season with low expectations. That does not mean there will be any less excitement at Soldier Field when the San Francisco 49ers come into town.

The Chicago Bears underwent a major franchise overhaul during the offseason.

The Bears have a new general manager in Ryan Poles along with a new head coach in Matt Eberflus. Poles tore down the roster to the studs in hopes that new talent can take the NFC North and never give it back.

The Chicago Bears’ chances of winning the division this season are slim. The Bears will be lucky to win more than seven games this season. That does not mean this will be a wasted season.

There is plenty of intrigue for the Chicago Bears as they enter the 2022 and this Week 1 matchup with the 49ers.

Can Eberflus effectively manage a game?

Eberflus is a rookie NFL head coach. In today’s NFL where teams are looking for a young offensive genius to be head coach, the Bears went with a defensive mind. Eberflus is big on acronyms. He has won over the team with his HITS principle.

At first, Jaylon Johnson admitted he didn’t buy in to the HITS principle. He kept hearing about it from Matt Eberflus and his staff, but the meaning didn’t resonate.

“Now, it’s becoming second nature.” The Bears are believing in what their coach preaches. https://t.co/IHtI43ZSEU

— Chris Emma (@CEmma670) August 23, 2022

Acronyms can only go so far.

Eberflus will have to show he can effectively manage a game. Eberflus will not be calling the defense. Those duties will be handled by defensive coordinator Alan Williams. Offensive coordinator Luke Getsy will call the offense.

That means Eberflus needs to be effective in the game management coaching portion. He needs to show he can manage the clock. He will also have to show he has a good process in place to throw the challenge flag. That was a concern in the preseason.

On the Coulter catch/no challenge call, Eberflus says they never got a second look at the play and chose not to throw the flag. Said if it was a real game, he would have considered it more even without that second look.

— Brendan Sugrue (@BrendanSugrue) August 19, 2022

Eberflus is going to be a CEO-type head coach like what Tennessee and Buffalo have. That means he will have to prove that his coaching staff can create solid game plans and make halftime adjustments.
