3 Things To Watch For As The Chicago Bulls Season Starts!Drew Krieson October 19, 2022 at 12:28 am

The last time we saw the Chicago Bulls play in a regular season game was over six months ago. At that time, they closed out their 2021-2022 season against the Minnesota Timberwolves. But tomorrow, after an offseason that never seemed to end, the Bulls are back!

Plenty has happened since we last saw the team play in the regular season. For starters, they made a postseason appearance against the Bucks and managed to steal a game to make it a 1-1 series before falling in game 5. Then, of course, came all the offseason moves and news as players worked their way through injury recovery, training camp, and the preseason. With the 2022-2023 season set to begin, here are four storylines to keep your eye on as the Bulls look to start their year off strong!

Can The Newbies Contribute To The Chicago Bulls Season?

The Chicago Bulls have a few fresh faces joining the team after this summer. So, the question remains, how much can these new guys contribute?

We’ll start off with rookie Dalen Terry, a 20-year old guard the Bulls selected with the 18th pick in this year’s draft. Dalen Terry won’t start for the Chicago Bulls this year, nor will he be one of the first guys coming off the bench when the second unit comes in. But, that doesn’t mean he can’t contribute. The way Terry will contribute is by providing energy for the Bulls off the bench, and he’ll help the team even more if he can remain dedicated to developing at the NBA level. Fortunately, putting in the work is something he’s fully prepared to do.

The next newcomer is NBA veteran Goran Dragić, who joined the Bulls at the beginning of August. This year, Dragić enters into his 15th season as a pro. Fifteen years in the NBA is a long time, and it remains to be seen if it will be his last one, but at 36-years old, how much is left in the tank? As diehard Bulls fans, we hope he has a lot left to give. Like Dalen Terry, Dragić won’t start, but he’ll be higher up on rotation for the second unit, and has already shown promising flashes with reserves Alex Caruso and Patrick Williams in the preseason. Even if we get a month or two into the season, and it doesn’t end up looking like Dragić has contributed as much based on his stats, don’t forget that he’s also serving as a mentor and guide to our young players. With all of his experience, even passing on his decade and a half of NBA wisdom onto some of our rising stars is enough of a contribution.

The last newcomer we’ll touch on is Andre Drummond, who joined the Bulls on a two-year deal at the end of June. Drummond, now 29 and entering his 11th season, will serve as backup to Vučević and should contribute heavily to the team’s success. We know he can rebound the ball like it’s nobody’s business, what remains to be seen is what his scoring will look like as a new piece in the Chicago Bulls’ offense.

Will Ayo Fill The Zo Role?

This story seems to be the biggest one for the Bulls as they enter the new league year. With Lonzo Ball out for the foreseeable future, the team has to rely on a new starting point guard. After the rookie season he had, it’s clear why Ayo Dosunmu has the opportunity to be the next man up.

Dosunmu joins a starting lineup of Zach LaVine, DeMar DeRozan, Nikola Vučević, and Patrick Williams who was just named a starter this week. In his 77 games played last year, Dosunmu averaged only 8.8 points per game, 3.3 assist, and 2.8 rebounds. While he started for 40 games, also due to Lonzo’s injury, the game plan to keep him at the top of the lineup didn’t pan out in the postseason when Alex Caruso served as the starter against the Bucks.

Ayo has shown flashes of greatness early on in his NBA career thus far, and he certainly has what it takes to fill in for Zo and help the team get by without their starting PG. If Billy Donovan has the patience to stick with him through the ups and downs, he just might get the chance to prove himself in year two.

Vooch Looks To Build On Preseason

Regardless of what you think of his time here, Vučević is set to stay with the Chicago Bulls as the season begins. He’s entering the last year of his contract with the team and could end up as an unrestricted free agent when the season ends. If we could bet on things like trade rumors, we would go all-in on trade rumors involving Vučević that are going to pop up later on in the year. It’s inevitable.

But, if Vučević has anything to say about it, maybe his play will quiet the noise. In the preseason, he averaged 14.8 points, 9.5 rebounds, and 3.3 assists per game. He was top three on the team in all of those stat categories. As the Chicago Bulls look to take a different offensive approach with less iso-DeMar DeRozan ball, and more balance across the entire system, we’ll end up seeing more Vučević. And maybe, just maybe, he’ll be with us to stay for good.

Chicago’s Christian Tabernacle Concert Choir honors its own traditions with its first album release in two decades

Legacy, the Christian Tabernacle Concert Choir’s first release in 20 years, is a joyous collection of gospel songs and hymns, including many from the Chicago group’s original repertory. Dedicated to Christian Tabernacle’s founder, Pastor Maceo Woods, who died in January 2020, Legacy evokes the church’s 60-plus-year history of gospel supremacy with its old-school playlist, its seasoned personnel, and its sonic style. It features the church’s newly installed leader, Pastor DeAndre Patterson, who’s not only an accomplished singer, musician, and emcee but also Woods’s godson. Patterson has a passion for time-honored gospel that makes him the ideal inheritor of Woods’s musical mantle.

Woods was already a respected musician and choir director when, at age 27, he started the Christian Tabernacle Church in a rehabbed theater on Chicago’s south side in 1959. From the 1960s on, Woods and his Christian Tabernacle Concert Choir channeled classic and new gospel through a composite of jazz, rock, and soul without ever sacrificing their ecclesiastical foundation in service to the beat. Alongside the Edwin Hawkins Singers’ “Oh Happy Day,” Christian Tabernacle’s 1969 cover of “Hello Sunshine” (written by Ronald Miller and Curtis Ousley, aka King Curtis, and first recorded in 1968 by Wilson Pickett) announced the arrival of contemporary gospel music. Originally released on a local custom label and then by Stax Records’ Volt subsidiary, “Hello Sunshine” is included on Legacy in a new version as a bonus track.

Other nods to the past include “If It Had Not Been,” sung in a craggy but effective alto by longtime Christian Tabernacle Concert Choir member Maggie Bell Childs, who led the song on the choir’s 1981 album Bringing in the Sheaves. Another choir alumnus, Richard Jackson, delivers on “It’s Good to Know.” The full-throated choir is supported by a spirited rhythm section anchored by keyboardist Cliff Dubose, guitarist Joey Woolfalk, and bass player Richard Gibbs. If the busy arrangement for “Wings of a Dove” obscures some of the song’s beauty, selections such as “Saved and Sanctified” and “Wait on Jesus,” written for the choir in 1972 by the late Elder George Jordan, charge forward like an elevated train without brakes.

Legacy by the Christian Tabernacle Concert Choir with Pastor DeAndre is available through the church at (773) 548-2500.

Cubs: Kyle Schwarber hit a massive home run off of Yu DarvishVincent Pariseon October 19, 2022 at 11:00 am

The Chicago Cubs have been seeing thier former players play well all throughout the playoffs. A few hours after Anthony Rizzo’s New York Yankees advanced to the American League Championship Series, two great former Cubs faced off.

In game one of the National League Championship Series, the San Diego Padres hosted the Philadelphia Phillies. Former Cubs ace Yu Darvish got the start for the Padres after what has been a masterful season for him.

Darvish pitched well but he did allow two solo shots in the game which is not uncommon for power pitchers like him. Giving up two runs on three hits (one walk) in 7.0 innings is a really nice start. It isn’t his fault that his offense scored zero runs and they lost the game 2-0.

Bryce Harper hit the first solo shot for the Phillies and that gave them a 1-0 lead. Later in the 6th inning, old Cubs star Kyle Schwarber hit his first of the postseason to make it 2-0.

These two were teammates on a division-winning team in the past and now they are facing each other in the playoffs. It is certainly a sight to behold as two greats battle on a huge stage.

Two former Chicago Cubs stars put on a show in the MLB Postseason on Tuesday.

Schwarber got the better of Darvish in this one as he took him deep and had two total hits in the game in addition to being that one walk that Darvish allowed. The Phillies are truly lucky to have signed this guy as he led the NL in home runs this season.

Game two between these two great teams will take place on Wednesday afternoon. Blake Snell of San Diego is going to face Aaron Nola of Philadelphia which is an incredible matchup. If the Chicago baseball fans out there are looking for some good baseball, this is it.

The Padres are down 1-0 at home but they took down the big bad Los Angeles Dodgers after going down 1-0 in that series last week. It is certain that they will not go down without a fight which means that they are going to bring their best in this one.

It should also be noted that Anthony Rizzo’s Yankees team is going to face off against the Houston Astros in game one of the ALCS. We got to see Schwarber hit a big home run (488 feet) off of Yu Darvish which was fun and you can expect a lot more from these former Cubs going forward.

It is going to be a while before the Cubs are back in these types of games so enjoy this for now. These playoffs have been amazing up to this point.

After scoring 31, how close is LeBron to breaking the NBA scoring record?on October 18, 2022 at 1:40 pm

When LeBron James passed
Karl Malone for second
on the NBA’s career regular-season points list
, he set his sights firmly on Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, the
NBA’s current all-time leading scorer.

James enters the 2022-23 season, his 20th in the NBA, needing only 1,326 points to surpass Abdul-Jabbar’s
career total of 38,387. Given that James has scored at least 1,500 points in 18 of his previous 19
seasons, it seems likely that he’ll break the record this year, ending Abdul-Jabbar’s 38-year run as the
NBA’s most prolific scorer.

Abdul-Jabbar has been atop the career points list since April 5, 1984 — eight months before James was
even born — when he broke the mark previously held by Wilt Chamberlain. Now James has that record within
reach, and we’ll have ongoing coverage of his quest, including updated game-by-game projections and
complete stats.

JAMES VS. ABDUL-JABBAR

James is now in his 20th season, the same number Abdul-Jabbar played in his
legendary career. And while the legendary Lakers big man posted bigger scoring numbers early in his
career, James’ lengthy prime (15 consecutive seasons averaging at least 25 PPG) has allowed him to close
the gap.

“If LeBron breaks the record, and it looks like he has every reason to break
it, I’ll be very happy for him. The game will always improve when records like that are
broken.”

James’ 2021-22 season came to an early end after a 38-point performance in a
loss to the Pelicans. With the Lakers already eliminated from play-in contention and James nursing an
injured ankle, the team shut him down with five games to go. He scored at least 36 points in each of the
last five games he played.

LAST 5 GAMES

“To know that I’m on the verge of breaking probably the most
sought-after record in the NBA, things that people say would probably never be done, I think it’s
just super humbling for myself. I think it’s super cool.”

James opens the season against the Golden State Warriors, the team he famously
faced four times in the NBA Finals. When these two teams last met in March, James scored a
season-high 56 points on 19-of-31 shooting to lead the Lakers to a win.

Chicago Cubs: Anthony Rizzo is back in a championship seriesVincent Pariseon October 19, 2022 at 1:52 am

The Chicago Cubs were out of the playoff race before May began. However, they had a good year for a team that had the talent that they did. Going forward, they are going to continue building after tearing it down for the most part.

While they wait, it is fun to look at how the former great Cubs are doing with their new teams. We already saw Kyle Schwarber and Yu Darvish both advance to the National League Championship series with the Philadelphia Phillies and San Diego Padres respectively.

Well, there was a big-time former Cub star playing in the American League Division Series between the New York Yankees and Cleveland Guardians. Of course, Anthony Rizzo is now a member of the Yankees and they had a huge winner take all game five on Tuesday.

The Cleveland Guardians had a 2-1 series lead at one point but the Yankees forced a game five and looked to make a huge comeback. Well, they did it as they won the game on the back of some amazing home runs by Aaron Judge and Giancarlo Stanton.

Former Chicago Cubs star Anthony Rizzo is headed to a championship series.

Now, Rizzo and his club are headed to the American League Championship Series. This won’t be his first time playing in the second to last round of the postseason but it will be his first time doing it in the American League.

Rizzo has had a couple of big moments in this series. In this final game that clinched a berth in the ALCS, he went 1-3 with a run scored and an RBI. He played a big part in getting this win as he was the only one to get an RBI outside of hitting a home run.

There is a reason that the Yankees wanted to add someone like Rizzo. He has plenty of experience playing in big games like this and now he is off doing it with another team. If they were to win the whole thing, it would be the second World Series championship of his career.

In the ALCS, the Yankees will play those pesky Houston Astros. These two teams have met in the playoffs a lot over the last few seasons which should make this matchup even more intriguing. No matter what is going on with the Cubs, it is always nice to see Anthony Rizzo succeed.

Celtics pay tribute to Russell: ‘Greatest of men’on October 19, 2022 at 1:44 am

BOSTON — Ahead of the Celtics opening the 2022-23 NBA season against the Philadelphia 76ers on Tuesday night at TD Garden, the franchise celebrated the life and legacy of Bill Russell, the 11-time NBA champion and civil rights icon whose No. 6 was permanently retired by the NBA in the wake of his death this summer.

“Bill Russell was a great man,” Celtics star Jaylen Brown said as part of a pregame ceremony honoring Russell. “But what did that mean? What defined his greatness? Who he was as a mentor, a father, a member of his community, most certainly his 11 championships here in Boston, both playing and coaching.

“But, undoubtedly, Bill Russell was a great man for what and who he stood for. During the peak of racial tensions in our society, he represented a type of nobility and honor that transcended sports. The amount of respect he receives from people will live on in eternity, and I’m grateful I was able to shake his hand. He was a true champion both on and off the court, and our gratitude is endless.

“I started off saying Bill Russell was a great man. Bill Russell was the greatest of men.”

2 Related

The ceremony started about 15 minutes before Tuesday night’s game tipped off with a video highlighting Russell’s career, followed by Brown’s speech and a spoken word poem by Boston’s poet laureate, Porsha Olayiwola.

A second video then played featuring not only his basketball accomplishments, but also his extensive work as a civil rights advocate, including his being given the Presidential Medal of Freedom by President Barack Obama in 2011 — a video that played over a performance by recording artist Aloe Blacc.

Throughout the ceremony, individual spotlights shone on the No. 6 in the paint at both ends of the court — part of several tributes the Celtics will be paying to arguably the greatest figure in the league’s history, and one who towers over all sports here.

After Russell died in July at the age of 88, NBA commissioner Adam Silver announced that, beginning this season, his No. 6 would be retired across the league, giving Russell the same honor baseball gave another all-time great on and off the field: Dodgers legend Jackie Robinson.

“Bill Russell’s unparalleled success on the court and pioneering civil rights activism deserve to be honored in a unique and historic way,” Silver said then in a statement announcing the decision. “Permanently retiring his No. 6 across every NBA team ensures that Bill’s transcendent career will always be recognized.”

In addition to the jersey retirement — which didn’t impact players already wearing No. 6, including Los Angeles Lakers superstar LeBron James — all NBA players will wear a commemorative patch on the right shoulder of their jerseys during the 2022-23 season, and every court will display a shamrock-shaped logo with Russell’s No. 6 on the sideline near the scorer’s table.
